Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins, "The Hobbit"The Hobbit? On screen?

Seems that some the rumours circling about the 'net and the news might have a bit of validity. MGM has announced--or at least Variety is reporting that MGM has announced--that they intend on making The Hobbit in "one or two installments". It seems they'll likely be teaming with New Line Cinema, and making every attempt possible to get Peter Jackson to direct it.

Why haven't we heard more about The Hobbit in the last 2 years? There was an issue between MGM and New Line regarding the rights to filming The Hobbit... hopefully, that issue has been fully cleared up, and we can anticipate an all new Tolkien film in the next few years!

Stay tuned for more info!

I think that Pete should definitely consider directing. His scope into the world and his ability to utilize Weta to bring Tolkien's words into vision make him the perfect choice.

Absolutely mahvelous. The more movies the merrier. And they might bring back the fair-weather-fans without whom reviews of my fanfics suffer. >:D Yah, I'm selfish.

Cool! Just hope they don't use the same actor who played Bilbo in the LOTR movies to play again in these new movies. I can't stand his face. Probably because of that CGI scene where his face changes.

And I hope PJ isn't directing this one. I've had more than enough of his directing and for once, we could maybe stick to the books?

Dont think its long enough for two instalments - its a childrens book, after all. But I do hope they managed to make it, and with PJ at the helm.

Apropos of absolutely nothing, can someone please stop the apostrophes going berko? I have to remember not to use them or my comments are almost unreadable!!

Can't stand his face, huh? Glad I'm not your friend, Mungo. As I get older you'd probably put me out to pasture just 'cause you can't stand the wrinkles!

Seriously, though, Ian Holm was great as Bilbo, but they need a younger hobbit to play the part in The Hobbit, as hobbits are just in their prime at 50 and would have the general appearance of say, Elijah Wood at the age of 40.

Ian looked too old for the 50-year old Bilbo in FotR, in my opinion.

Lol, Morganna. I thought for a sec, you were serious there. I was just thinking, "What the heck is she talking about?".
