I'm sure that's how it got its name. One bite and you'd spit it out saying "GAH!!!!" also, food that still moves is not good. :nono:

Well, yesterday, the third cook actually showed up so I didn't have to pull a double shift. (My supervisor was taking a manditory class) But now I'm looking down the barrels of at least 12 days in a row. Keep your fingers crossed that I only have to do 12, please.

nl, I googled it! :D

It's official...
It's 19 days in a row.
I don't get a day off until the first of September.
Oh, ah, yes, I do get over time for that.

Hmm, Vulcan sites?
How about this one?

gah.

19 days. They sure they aren't violating some labor laws????

As for a tour, I got a nice itinerary for today.... lessee... *checks tour book*

The L-Langon Mountains are a mountain range located on the edge of Vulcan's Forge, on the far side of the desert from the city of ShirKahr, on planet Vulcan. The L-Langon Mountains are the general destination for those participating in the kahs-wan.

The mountains.....
Image

The forge.....
Image

Hmmm... there are sharp-toothed critters about called sehlats. And even nastiers ones called le-matya.

The le-matya is a large predatory beast, bearing poisonous claws, native to the planet Vulcan. Le-matyas are known to live in the foothills of the L-langon Mountains along Vulcan's Forge.

Erm.... let's stay in the bus.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, Vulcan looks a bit like Mars.

WASH: Every planet's got its own weird customs. 'Bout a year before we met, I spent six weeks on a moon where the principal form of recreation was juggling geese. My hand to God. Baby geese. Goslings. They were juggled.

saunters past the buffet table and scowls . . . Think we could google up something with meat in it? :) Or maybe I'll just string up the ol' elven longbow and hunt us a sehlat or le-matya for the BBQ . . . they do BBQ on Vulcan, don't they? ;)

19 days? In a row?  Is that legal? I don't think employers are allowed to do that up here . . . Calma, really do take care of yourself over that long haul, lots of fruit and veggies and lots and lots of sleeeep. We don't want you falling over sick now, y'hear? ;)

smiles at the Ambassador and Amanda . . .

Well, well, well, how utterly delightful to see you both again. And it just occured to me Ambassador, that there aren't any nancy elves around to spoil the fun. Feel like a sparring match later? =:)

"They do BBQ on Vulcan..." the Ambassador pauses, a glint of mischief in his dark eyes. "Vegetables." A small smile hints at the corners of his mouth. "Dawn or late evening would be best suited for our purposes. I would not wish to gain an advantage by being acustom to the heat of mid day, Scribe. My garden has an open area in the center. All are welcome in my home."

You're on! And I appreciate the offer of meeting during a cooler part of the day, although I can take heat, I'm not sure I can take what Vulcan has to dish out . . . ;) I can pretty much figure out why you folks call that one desert "The Forge" . . . ;) Let's say evening . . . just because I'm not much of a morning person these days. ;)

Lets Mal down, then slaps him heartily on the back, sending him into a coughing fit. "I may be old and crotchety, but dude, you really need to get in shape. I think a sprint through the Vulcan desert, showing off your tattoo might be good . . . Laughs as Mal bolts over to hide behind nl.

Well, it looks like I may not be working next weekend after all. :yippie:
But don't count your chickens and all that. With the stuff that goes on with employees there, one can never be certain. While I would have been able to do the 19 straight, I really wasn't looking forward to it. So, let's all hope I get next weekend off, ok?

Lora came over last night.
I can see the weight loss in her face, but most importantly, her diabetes is no more. Wooo-Whoooo! :yippie:
She's looking and feeling good and again thanks you for all your thoughts and prayers.... :D

Great news about Lora, Calma! :D I'm glad it's working out well. She'll feel a lot better and be healthier without the extra weight.

And...good news....*crosses fingers*... about not working next weekend. Working 19 days would have made me pretty crotchity....

Calma, that is awesome news about Lora. Glad she is recovering well, and hoping you don't have to work too much in the near future.

So....not being a Trekkie, other than having a strange crush on Scottie for most of my life, what are some of the fun spots on Vulcan?

Went for a walk the other evening, and something about the sunset and the air just hit me.....autumn is around the corner. One of the trees around here is already sporting yellow and red leaves. I head up north today with the kids and tonight it's supposed to be 32 degrees in Lake Placid!!!! Then I come home tomorrow without them for 2 days! Two nights without any kids in the house!!!???? My husband and I don't know how to handle that one.... but hopefully we'll figure it out.

Have a great Sunday!!! Time to get ready for church.....

Calma, it's great to hear that Lora has recovered so well! 8) I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you don't have to work next weekend. 19 days in a row would make at least me very tired and very cranky.

well Tooks should know, eh?

saw Hot Fuzz over the weekend. Went to my friend Narda's place for pizza dinner with 9 other. (yes there were anchovies!!) We laughed until we almost cried. Then we watched Dark City. Odd mix I know, but both were quite good. Dark City seems to be a forerunner for teh Matrix??

Yesterday I went to see Die Har 4.0. It was good too. Loads of violence. Jayne would have liked it.

Very good news about Lora, especially the diabetes, that can be a tough thing to deal with along with extra weight issues. I'm soooo glad you've kept us posted Calma! Offer Lora continuing good wishes from me too, okay?

Wenchie, um . . . just . . . enjoy. ;) :D

Hmmm nl, that sounds like you had a lot of fun. Pizza, movies (and popcorn no doubt!) :D

Full weekend continues to get fuller. Hubby has invited some friends (a young couple) over for dinner, complete with their two-week old baby, Julia. She's the cutest thing, I'll try and get piccies . . .

I am on day 9 and counting down now. Had my exit interview yesterday. Was very nice as may want to come back one day. Some days it is exciting to think of leaving and other days its "what are you doing!!!" going around in my brain. They have hired my replacement so there's no turning back now. It times out well as I want to go overseas in september next year. Jennifer and I are throwing around a few ideas of where to go. I should be able to afford it as have a pay rise. I would like to see Bruges, more of the Loire Valley and maybe some more of France. I'd like to do Turkey or Egypt but they are expensive and unstable regions.

Scribbles stole a baby!!!!!

very cute one too!!!

Yes I'd love to see the Pyramids and Abel Simbel but don't know whether it's worth the risk of being blown up, though Egypt is lowish on the blow up ladder I think. But I hear Turkey's new PM seems to be more fundamentalist so may not like too many western tourists lolly gagging around. Will have to check with the Govt's Smart Traveller (not to be confusted with the Tookish kind) site and see the warning level.

Oh Scribbles, what a cute little goo! :) Awwwwwww...... I love babies!

NL.... 9 days eh.... you are going to do great. What an exciting time for you, but change isn't easy. At least not for me. I have always wanted to visit Turkey and Egypt.... I didn't think Turkey was that dangerous at this point, I know some people living over there that say things are pretty calm right now, as long as you stay under the radar. But they are primarily in Istanbul. But I'm not sure how it is for tourists. You know these things much better than I.

Waves to all the Tookies, and hopes Tooks team does great!

So....up in Lake Placid NY last night it was 31 degrees! Brrrrrrrr..... Actually, it warmed up quite nicely in the day so it didn't make much of a difference. And I came home to a HUGE hole in the front of my house. Our front window has long needed replacing, and that project has started, and now their is a bunch of plywood in the hole that once was our window. We are putting in a large low angle bay window, which should really look nice. I'm thrilled this is getting done finally, and my husband is doing a great job, except for the fact that he has crushed all my plants in the front of the window....saying to me "you didn't want to save these, did ya?"

Off to play with dirty soil.......
