Dragon Age, fantasy RPG from the creators of Baldur's Gate
The game, developed by Bioware (Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Knights of the Old Republic) will be called "Dragon Age: Origins", and it has been described as the "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate series. It will be feature an epic story in a dark fantasy world with many possible party members and moral choices with important consequences on the whole world.

It should come out at the beginning of 2009. |

Looking forward to this game for a while now although the two trailer movies i saw were far from exciting.
Screenshots and some previews made me excited about this game though. It seems to use indeed the same gameplay system as Baldurs gate with many subquests and different plots depending on your choices in the game.
Just about the graphics i am not impressed yet. |

You know, Maeglin, for me graphics (especially in a RPG) don't really matter. If they made another game as good as BG 2, even with the same graphics it had 10 years ago, I'd buy it right now! |

Bumping this to say that the more I learn about this game, the more it sounds like a new Baldur's Gate / Knights of the old republic.

Nar, very valid point, any game with the same graphics and gameplay as BG2 i would buy again in an instant.
It is just that bioware does not impress me much with their character models (NWN 2 really was a let down)so i am a tad worried about that.
Still looking forward to the game although i heard it was delayed by a few months. |

And I'm buying it ASAP.
The only disappointment for me is that it doesn't seem to offer as much freedom as BG in terms of character creation (only three races and three classes - albeit each class has three-four possible "specializations").
Everything else I've read about it sounds extremely promising, from the interactions with the other party members to the depth of the storyline, from the moral choices to the length. And the "origins" feature sounds intriguing - your character has to choose among several possible backgrounds, with a playable prologue whose events will influence the rest of the game.
Anyway, it's Bioware. At the very least, it will be a good game. |

So, has anyone played this yet?
If so, what are your opinions on it?
Did it live up to your expectations?
I've gone to the site and watched the trailers and read the back of the box in the game store and while it does look intriguing and fun, I would like to know your thoughts on it before I decide to purchase it.
Thanks. |

I was just looking to get this game.
I'm surprised no one here has talked about Mass Effect. It was developed by Bioware, and it's one of the best RPG's I've ever played. In fact, I've just gotten into playing it again, trying to get all the achievements before Mass Effect 2 comes out in January.
I'll probably end up getting Dragon Age for the winter break. |

Dragon age is since bg2 in this genre defenitly the best RPG.
I played it through once and immediatly started with another character. Me and my girlfriend are both addicted.
I have hardly any complaints about this game except maybe the ingame movies are not as nice as i would have liked.
The unbalance was hardly noticable on the normal level, it is just not a very easy game but with the provided patch it works likes a charm.
And the downloadable content is just awesome. I haven't been this excited about a game since ages. |

This is an excellent game, worth 2 play throughs at least and doing all the origins stories. If this is a warm up for Mass Effect 2, god help me I might actually buy a game on release day for full price. |

Once again, a masterpiece. Thank you Bioware.

And how is that a bad thing?
For the record:
1) BioWare has officially announced Dragon Age 2 for March 2011. Apparently, the story will follow a completely new character, although the world in which he lives will be influenced by the choices made by the player in Origins and Awakening if one chooses to import a saved game. There won't be origins this time, the character can only be a human, the game will feature full voice acting for the main character and a dialogue wheel - in short, it will be more like Mass Effect. Personally, I'm not overly enthusiastic about some of this - as much as I liked Mass Effect 1&2, I enjoyed DAO more, even if it was less slick, cinematic and polished.
Anyway, BioWare is my favourite software house and in many years it has disappointed me only with the original campaign of NWN, so I'm optimistic.
2) A patch has been released for Dragon Age Awakening, which was quite buggy before that. Now, I'm having no troubles at all with it. |
