Vote: To Move the Kin House or Not to Move the Kinhouse
Dear Kinmembers,
Recently, a number of Servants have moved their personal homes to Folkhop in the Shire Homesteads. This has begged the question: Should the Servants of the Secret Fire move the kinship house to this neighborhood as well? Given that many of you supported the Thorin's Hall location for very specific reasons, we wanted to be sure to give the opportunity to everyone in the kinship to vote on this question. Given the gravity of this vote, and the potential consequences, we will be requiring a 2/3 YES vote to change the kinship house location.
To preserve your anonymity, please send me (Boffo) a YEA or NAY in-game mail message by the end of the day (midnight) Eastern time on November 4.
Votes to date (10/29/2009):
16 Yeas
4 Nays
Best,
Chief Boffo |

I guess I'd need to hear the specific reasons that certain members cited for having the kinhouse at Thorins Gate. Personally, I don't really like the cold bleakness of the current neighborhood and would rather see the house in the Shire, but if there's good reason to stay where it is I could support that as well. |

The reason that I personally like the current kin house is because I felt the ambiance of it fit with the kin theme of ridiculous indignation well. That being said, I am sure that a Shire kin home could have the same feeling without the dourness of the dwarven setting, as long as we can keep certain malicious furniture. I also think it should be noted that the Shire homesteads are just about as close to the stablemaster as the dwarven homesteads, and for one silver you can take a swift horse to any of the major towns.
I think I will vote yes to the move for one reason, it gives people who want to keep their current home a chance to instantly travel to the Servants' neighborhood for when we have neighborhood events, like hide-and-seek or hey-who-put-that-tentacle-of-Helechgam-in-my-bedroom. |

Well. This is a hard desicion for me. I wasnt a big fan of the thorins hall homestead in general, it was is more function over fashion. i had my home in the same as the kin hall which was nice for the extra discount at the Vendors there. My place was right above the vendor and bank which was awesome, and the kinhall is close to thorins to ride out to everywhere else. (or jump off the bridge for the shortcut this is what i love about the current location) and the last point for me about staying is that now i have a port to Shire, Bree and Thorins...
Now on the other hand. For the good of a kinship i think it would be cool being all located in the same honestead for a cool bond. and there is an awesome spot right across from the bank and vendors. beautiful location. There is i think only one other person in this kinship other than us. haha that would be awesome to totally take over the homestead.
so in conclusion i am currently on the fence.

Poking around some Shire kinship house locations. It seems they only have 2 special furniture slots, whereas the other homesteads come with 3. The big difference is that the Shire ones don't have the "stage" in the main room or pillars, so it's just one big flat area. The special furniture slots are on a diagonal, so that you can't line up two breakfast tables in a row to sort of divide the space either. No rug slot in the foyer either.
On the bright side, it does have one extra room compared to Dwarf kinhouse, but no landing halfway up the stairs in return.
For the location, I liked the one on Brookbank. It is slightly closer to the vault/vendor than the one on Chalk, but Chalk is closer to the exit. If you ant to run to vendor and then to exitthen both have comparable distances. One problem with Chalk is that to get the the vendor everyone will be running over Adrien's lawn and then jumping on my roof on their way.
The Brookbank house is also cheaper at 15g vers 16.5g. Myrtle is cheapest, and not a bad location either. The one on Harrow is the furthest and most expensive, but it has an interesting and long lawn. One bit with these houses is that somethings the huge and enormous yard decorations can stand out as eyesores. |

Thanks Tule. Both for convenience and aesthetic sake, I am currently leaning towards Chalk.
Aesthetics:
It may be the most hobbity (with the wonderful hedgerow and rolling hills behind it), and it is certainly the most "open" compared to the relative claustrophobia of the Thorin's Hall location (and the relative claustrophobia of Moria and Mirkwood, where we are going to spend much of our time). Most of the other houses, apart from Brookbank, have towering cliffs behind them. Brookbank, though, is smack in the center of the neighborhood, and loses some of its charm for that reason (not to mention it will be more of a throughway, and less private).
Convenience:
Proximity to the exit and the town square are big pluses, though Brookbank is closer to the town square.
In the end, the convenience factor of Brookbank and Chalk are roughly equal, but I think Chalk is a nicer-looking spot. I therefore choose Chalk.
However, my vote is just one vote in this context (though I am happy to influence others ). Once the vote on the move closes tonight, I will reach out to the kinship to solicit their final preferences.

Speaking of open, I was surprised when going back on Harrow road that it appears to be open to the rolling fields behind. There's an invisible wall there (or else a bug that made invisible hedgerows) but the view goes on and on (and back again). No kinhouses there though. |

I'm leaning towards Chalk because I think it's a prettier location. Distances aren't that big of a deal as we are talking only a few seconds of time after all. |

Don't forget to check out the fence runner when it's night time in the Shire homesteads. |

Well, I should be coming back to the game in the next month or so... I stayed out for awhile having been laid off and dirt poor... but I found a job that I start next month, so my only concern is that this time the kin house needs more then one bathroom. Thank you. |

ULFI!!!!
We've missed you terribly! Please come back soon! In the meantime, we'll build an outhouse out by the hedge. For dwarves only.
And Boffo, the fencerunner is there after dark. He's in the back of the neighborhood in the farming fields off Harrow Rd. |

FYI to all: Livvi has moved, and his house is now for sale. It's 3 Wending, aka the convenient house behind the provisioner. |

So Livvi responded to our not-so-veiled threats?
