The last movie you saw thread

Similar to the what are you listening to now? threads, this is just a way for us to share what we see and what we thought of it. Post the name, and a pic, maybe a brief blurb about it if you want too. You can do multiple in one post, just not more then 3-4.

Waltz With Bashir

Amazingly good, very interesting approach, and great animation.

Cool thread. I saw Waltz with Bashir a few months ago. I was the only person in the theater! It was good... different, in an apocalyptic kind of way. And I also saw that other film not too long ago.

I don't go to theaters much and recently stopped netflixing (temporarily of course), but let me think...

BOTTLE SHOCK: Not nearly as good as Sideways... actually, script is downright bad... acting is mediocre at best.

RELIGULOUS: Saw it a while back, but pretty funny.

WILD REEDS: Rewatched this recently actually. A great movie imo.

My wife and I just saw THE BOX. A total trainwreck, but not totally worthless if you're a Richard Kelly fan.

I thought Sideways was the most overrated piece of celluloid in ages. Does that mean I will dislike Bottle Shock?

Wild Reeds is great.

Just saw Army of Shadows for the third time. Still amazing.

You will despise Bottle Shock . Except for pretty shots of grapes and helicopter footage of vineyards the film is sheer over-scripted nonsense. The last time I winced that hard was when I watched Travolta in Michael . And this is coming from someone who lives not too far from Napa and finds the local history of wine interesting.

Just watched The Shining for the first time since highschool. Saw it was on around Halloween and DVR'd it. I had forgotten a lot of it. Still a fantastic movie!!

I saw 'inglorious basterds' yesterday. Liked it. And firmly pinched my eyes when the violence became too graphic. Wink But apart from that I was really pleasantly surprised.

Don't know how I missed it before, but I just saw (on DVD), "The Lives of Others"-- the 2007 Academy Award winner for Best Foreign Language Film. What a fantastic flick!

It's about a functionary in the Stasi (East German secret police, more or less) who is detailed to eavesdrop on a writer. The whole film is basically about his gradual discovery of his own humanity as he becomes more and more invested in the subjects of his surveillance.

It's a very low-key narrative, but excruciatingly suspenseful. The lead actor, Ulrich Muhe (who died in 2007) gives a wonderfully subtle performance (reminiscent, for me, of the marvellous turn by Christoph Waltz in Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds"). This was the first (and, so far as I can tell, only) feature film by Florian Henckel von Donnersmark. I certainly intend to watch for his next!

I watched Wizard of Oz yesterday on TBS!

It's actually more goofy and weird now that I see it as an adult.

I think the last movie I watched was a quaint little movie called, 'The Secret of Roan Inish'. Nice Irish myth meets modern(ish) piece.

Lies and Illusions.

DO NOT even consider renting this unadulterated piece of *TOS violating descriptive noun*. It is an utter waste of time, amateurish, embarrassing and downright horrible. I'm not sure what was more painful to watch, Christian Slater's gosh-awful high school musical quality acting, or the completely cringe-worthy bar fight scene between the two female leads . . . gaaaahhhhhhhhhh . . . I wanted to poke my eyes out with a burning stick!!

Saw 2012 last Sunday. Hilariously dumb, in an epic VFX-actular way.

DVRed APPALOOSA and BABYLON A.D. and finally watched both of them.

APPALOOSA's a decent enough Western... nothing really stands out about it but it's a sturdy genre piece. Worth watching if you like Westerns, Ed Harris, Viggo, or Jeremy Irons, I guess.

BABYLON A.D. was a mess... but there was enough of an idea there that I wish the director had retained control -- reports were that the studio recut the film to emphasize the action and trimmed out most everything else, which means the movie made no sense and had no coherency. But I did like Vin Diesel in it, and there was just a hint of the greater world-verse that had been set up that a longer, more fully-explained story could have been neat. Still, I can't really recommend it to anyone except diehard Vin Diesel fans.
