I called home and mom said he was out in the living room and eating and being mouthy. :)

I am a cat-lover, and cats are lovers of me. Long has there been friendship between the feline kindred and myself, and long shall that friendship endure!

However: I did want to point something out (though no doubt it has been mentioned already, somewhere in the vastness of this 65-page thread!), and that is this:

Queen Beruthiel was not a cat-lover! She hated cats, and in fact she tortured the poor creatures for her own amusement. But for some reason they were drawn to her, and so she used them as her spies.

Was this fact known to those who chose the guild name? Or was the choosing of the name (as with so many human traditions) based on an error?

Welcome, Celebrendir...
As for the name of the guild, I wouldn't know either.
It was Feline who started the guild. I joined later.

But I know from people who don't like cats yet cats like them.
My later Mother-in-law was like that. Though she didn't torture them and I don't very much if she could understand "cat" enough to get any sort of information from them.

Wouldn't that be fun?
I mean to be able to talk to your cat.
Wow, you could explain why you're wrapping them in a towel and putting drops in their eyes or poking them with a needle twice a day.
Wether they'd approve is still unknown.

Iris, cool on Okun.
I hope that's what's happening.

Since it's almost time to start a new thread, could we call it The Amazing House of Queen Berúthiel or something, to imply we know the title is odd?

I actually didn't know that myself, but my knowledge is restricted to four and a half books anyhow...

Thanks for the welcome! It's always fun to be around other cat-lovers. I have two cats, Isabel and Pixie. (Pixie is the fat one.)

Tolkien revealed the story of Queen Beruthiel in one of his letters, I believe. It's around this forum somewhere....

There's a bit about Berúthiel and her cats in Unfinished Tales, in Note 7 to The Istari. It appears that her story only exists as a rough draft. It doesn't say that she tortured her cats, they just were "her slaves" and she used them as spies. Probably this guild was named after her just because she's the only person in Tolkien's stories who is especially told to have been associated with cats. (Well, if we don't count Tevildo, the evil feline from Lost Tales who later involved into Sauron, and his servants. :P )

What a cool name for a cat! Specifically a black cat.

That does sound like a cool name. I also think that with her being the only one who is associated strongly with kitties that we continue to use her name.

Tradition is something you just don't mess with.

Besides, we're big enough to take on any cat torturer, right?

Let's see them try! :club:

Okun is doing so much better...we're back down to 3 units of insulin twice a day and that seems to be doing the trick. I'm wondering if he might be going into remission. :)

Good for him! I'm glad to hear it.

A friend of mine had a diabetic cat, since deceased, but he was getting pretty old anyway. Still, without the diabetes, he might haved longer. His contemporary is still going strong, last I heard, and she's at least 15, maybe older.

This friend had, for some years, 6 cats. The oldest, one of the second oldest, and the one above have all died since, all rather old. The remaining three range from 13 to about 17 or 18.

Since the cleanout, our cats have been downright neurotic. They have to find themselves new nests, and Oreo, the introvert, actually comes into the living room now if we're all in there and makes sure he's never alone except in the bedroom or spare room. If he falls asleep and everyone leaves the room afterward, he comes looking for me.

And, surprisingly, while we had helpers, Oreo was the one who came out to watch from a distance; ordinarily he would make himself scarce. Mackie turned out to be the one who doesn't like strangers, which is also surprising because with family and established regulars he's a big mushbug.

Have everyone's cats gone on strike?? Nothing to report?

Since the cleanout, Oreo's getting more exercise, and not just because Mackie chases him. He's discovered several of those jingle balls he loved to chase (they had been buried between boxes, I guess), and he still loves to chase them. Of course, he doesn't keep it up for very long. But it also seems he's forgotten how to play hockey with me. Used to be, I'd roll or toss a ball and he'd chase it and dribble it back to me. No more.

With the bathroom repairs, hubby's been shutting them in the spare room with their litter box and a bowl of water while the workmen are present. Now the little monkeys demand that the water dish in the spare room be kept up like the one in the kitchen!

CATS! :D

Sorry, I haven't had much to report! I can tell y'all that I had a sick head ache when I went to bed last night and Okun climbed up in bed with me and put his paw in my hand as if to say, "It's okay, I'm right here."

Cute cats, Morwenna. ;) :D

Yeah China has been taking good care of me too while I have been sick. She came in a napped with me yesterday and last night she slept right by my pillow with her paw at my head and her head on my pillow. Sometimes she is so cute and sweet. :D

Ours are well too. It's tick-time, and flea time, so they got their first dose of Vectra for the season. We elected not to give the dog Frontline, mostly because we're not sure she's going to be with us for the entire summer. Ugh.

Okun's insulin was upped again, from 3 to 3 1/2 units. The doctor says he thinks this is where we're going to stay since 4 is too much and 3 not quite enough.

Lebasi, all cat lovers are welcome in here. :) For example, I don't even have a cat at the moment, but am very much a cat person, and it's always nice to hear about other people's kitties.

So, do you have a cat, or more?

Welcome Cirrus, Caramel, Liquorice and Lebasi.

Always nice to see new faces in the guild.

What do your babies look like?

I have a white kitteh named Snowball.
Lady Snowball S. Chancenell is her proper name.

And an all black kitteh named Rascal.
She appropriately named, btw.

Drop by often we love to hear about cats. :D

Iris, I sure hope Okun does better on this dosage.
Give him a scritch under the chin for me.

Hallo!

I'm another cat cuddler :)

I have three cats named Sophie, Mildew and Kitty. I don't really associate Mildew with mould anymore. I think it's a rather cute name :)

Almost stole the neighbours new kitten this morning, don't think it knows where it lives yet. It's so cute.

I feel like getting another kitten soon and calling it Raisin :)

Hello Lysanor and your (and the neighbour's) cats :)

Cirrus is big white and fluffy. My little brother says she looks like a white snowball (but a very big one). She did look like a wispy cirrus cloud when she was named.

Caramel is quite tabby with caramel coloured places.

Liquorice is tortoiseshell-ish and black. Once again she was completely black when we named her.
