Hobbit-Ja(a|h)r - a German-Dutch Tolkien project

Postby Canamarth » Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:14 am

There will be a whole host of events as part of a cross-border co-operation between the German (DTG) and Dutch (Unquendor) Tolkien Societies this year. And the best thing is - the project is going to be part-financed by the European Union!

So, when you're in the area, feel free to join the upcoming events:

With the Hobbit Ja(a|h)r, DTG and Unquendor have launched a project which will carry several events on J.R.R. Tolkien on both sides of the border, having started with the author’s 120th birthday on 3 January 2012 and running until 28 February 2013. The International Tolkien Dinner already happened in Belfeld near Venlo. From 28–29 April and 8–9 September, regional meetings will take place. The International Tolkien Day will be hosted at Castle Walbeck, Germany, from 2–3 June and a Hobbit Party will be celebrated from 17–18 November at Castle Arcen, Netherlands. Those two events will offer readings, lectures, exhibitions, re-enactment groups, music and workshops around the fantastic world of J.R.R. Tolkien. They are meant to contribute to build a cross-border literary network especially for the works of Tolkien, advocate children’s and juveniles’ literacy and awaken their interest in literature. With the different activities, the project is aimed at adults as well as children who are already interested in books as well as those who are still on their way to discovering literature.
