ok I am getting confused by where we are going?? As far as I can follow we must be on the Old South Rd, heading for the Gap of Rohan, but Fangorn Forest is on the other side of the misty mountains from there, so how is it we are heading there???

We're heading into the Gap of Rohan, which will enter Isengard, with Orthanc dominating the skyline. Remember, Treebeard converted Isengard into the Treegarth of Orthanc, expanding Fangorn Forest southwards from where it is. The map says it all.

We're entering Isengard, Fangorn Forest is to the north. Radagast has his new home somewhere in the forest surrounding Orthanc. I hope that clears it up a little.

You're welcome. So we don't have to go to Fangorn Forest proper, unless we want to. Isengard is enough of a diversion, and we'd meet both Radagast and Treebeard there. The South Road would lead directly to Edoras and beyond. Fangorn itself is up to the northeast, close enough to be seen as we come in through the Gap of Rohan. But we can play it by ear like we've always done.

And Sid, I don't think anything contradicts your post, as the trees of ISengard do have the Ents in it. I don't know if the Huorns are around, they'd be back in the darkest dales of Fangorn Forest proper, and you'd be intercepted by Ents before you stumbled into those dark places for your safety.
