I have been 'ghosting' this message board for a few months, reading mostly The Books section. I was reluctant to register, being not just deeply impressed but, honestly, also somewhat intimidated by the expertise of the members here. But a few days ago I discovered the Music section and was finally compelled to join, as I have been involved in several Tolkien music projects lately. I was excited to find out that there are other members interested in the songs published in The Road Goes Ever On.
I have read many of Tolkien's books and also the Letters, but not yet the draft versions of The Lord of the Rings (which would be The HoME Volumes VI-IX; only looked up a few things there).

And I just wanted to mention that it was, among others, your discussion of the matter of treating inconsistent versions of the legends as intentional internal variations, which so impressed me, Gorthaur the Cruel. That view is so interesting and unusual - it looks like the prevailing approach would be to try to reconcile those versions or to determine which one could be considered final, if at all possible. Hopefully it is ok to mention this here, as this discussion was already somewhat deviating from the Number of Wizards subject and so, as a total newbie, I was afraid to appear off topic right away (even if to me that off-topic was more interesting than the topic itself). I realize it may be equally off topic here! But just could not agree that it is all the same, whether Maglor was drowned with the Silmaril or got lost sometime later; externally (for documenting purposes) maybe, but a huge difference from the internal point of view...

Mae g'ovannen, everyone! (Me trying to sound like I know a lot of Sindarin, which I do not, unfortunately).
I'm new in this forum, but also new to the Lord Of The Rings fandom (I just finished reading the books), so I don't know all the names and places and things that happened before the Lord Of The Rings (I'm currently reading the Silmarillion, I'm getting there, slowly but surely!).
