Just finished, Do Androids Dream of Electric sheep?, by Phillip K. Dick. The original Blade Runner novel! Surprisingly good!

If you like Dresden, try Shayne Silvers. Lots of fun reads.

The Secret History of Deena Pilgrimis a novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Neil Kleid set in Bendis' Powers universe. Deena is a police detective in the Powers Homicide Division investigating violent crime involving super-powered persons. I've borrowed the book from my spouse who just finished it a few days ago.

Picked up LOTR's for the first time in ages..doing a fun re-read.
Prior to that, I have been searching out Indie writers, with some wonderful successes. I just finished The Dark Secret of Voltun by KR Sanford...I do believe I am the first to leave her an Amazon review...it's not high fantasy, its a mash up of conspiracty thriller, sci-fi, fantasy and Michael Cricton...I enjoyed it.

If you can handle some editing errors and a wading through some drivel..you'll find some real gems. I think I might start an Indie Author thread

While I am reading LOTR..i squeezed in a novel What The Wind Knows..I time travel/portal novel ala Outlander, without the graphic sex.

I liked it a lot, but it got a bit too bogged down in the history of Ireland's struggle for independence. At felt like the main character was just there to witness things and get to know the people of that era and bring the struggle a human element. However the narrative lacked momentum at one point and I just started to skim some of the pages dealing with the machinations of the revolution and civil war...worth the read? Definitely. Read it again: probably not

Currently reading Joseph Conrad’s, Typhoon. An oldie but a goodie! Some of the most realistic and vivid descriptions of actually enduring a hurricane at sea that I have seen in print so far!

Also currently listening via audible.com Alan Furst’s Dark Star, set during, like all of his books, the late 1930s in Nazi Germany. Quite possibly one of the best spy novels of the last 50 years or so.

* I have something of a favor to ask of any of you here. I have been searching earnestly on the audible.com website lately for a good fantasy novel to spend my last remaining credit on but am not sure what to choose as I typically read historical fiction and sci-fi novels. Can anyone here recommend a good fantasy novel that is more character driven instead of plot driven? Something besides Tolkien and George RR Martin, please...Also something of high literary merit and is not YA. I would certainly appreciate any advice since I notice a lot of you here are more familiar with such literature than I am. Thank you!

Little Women. I haven't read it in quite some time, and had forgot how enjoyable and charming it is - I aim to finish it before I go to see the movie, but that may not be possible as I've had to read a bit more slowly than usual, due to holiday stuff.

The Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson. He's planning a series of ten books, and the three he's finished so far are each, yes each the size of a LOTR anthology. I wasn't too impressed with Mistborn, but my brother convinced me to give these a try, and I'm glad he did. Good magical worldbuilding, and a few characters I've become very attached to very quickly.

Love Sanderson's Stormlight Archive, with the exception of the last one..which I can say that I just "liked" but not "loved" like I loved The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance...which I LOVED!

First time I read Mistborn, i was "that was good"...then I picked up the series again, many years later and I found that I really enjoyed it much better the second go around, not sure why..but I did.

But I like Sanderson's work in general, Elantris, Warbreaker, Mistborn trilogy, novella Emperor's Soul, I loved his short story (Edge Dancer)involving "Lift" the character from Stormlight Archives.

Melwa, if you like Sanderson and Rothfuss, check out Jonathan Renshaw's "The Dawn of Wonder"..he is an Indy author that put out an amazing first novel...one of my favorites

Over Christmastide I read my wife's self-published occult mystery novel Red Christmas. It's a bit rough around the edges and Tayna says that she plans on revising it at some point. If anyone's interested, it's available at Amazon both in softcover and on Kindle.

I finished Oathbringer on Monday. Trying not to let myself get sucked into the entire extended Cosmere quite yet, because I find it tiring to read with the focus needed to catch all the little details Sanderson puts in. However, I probably will read them eventually, if only to follow Hoid around. I didn't enjoy Edgedancer as much, since it was missing both my favorite characters (Kaladin and Dalinar), but Lift does grow on you (pun accidental).

Witchy, thanks for the book recs! I passed them on to my brother, and he'll probably pass them back to me. His library has a much better selection than mine, so he usually can get his hands on less well known ones quicker than I.
