The NEW Food thread, a home for FOODIES!!
Our old thread got way past its expiration date, so since Ayslhyn isn't here to start the new one up, I am doing it for him.
Here is the place to talk about all things food related. Recipe exchanges. Or simply what ya had for supper.
Take it away!!
I will be having beef stew for supper.
I was thinking on going back through the old thread and pulling all the recipes out of there and gathering them here, do we think that would be something helpful?????
Carry on food lovers of TORC. |

Black beans? Do they grow like peas do, in a pod or something? I don't think I have ever seen black beans (plants). I love them totally. Many times instead of pintos with Mexican, I will use black beans.
Hope you like dill then!!! I don't use it that much, but I do like it with fish and some potato salads. |

Black bean plants look just like green bean plants, only you leave the pods on the plant until they dry. When you split the pod, you have black beans!
Dill...yea, I use it on fish and some salady stuff. I think it helps keep critters away too, so I don't mind it self seeding a bit. It helps crowd out the weeds.
I took a photo yesterday. If it turns out okay, I'll post it. |

Oh I want to see a piccie. Do they grow close to the ground? I saw a picture of a "grove" but that wasn't typical to the other pictures I saw. Black beans, I figured they were imported mostly.
Ooooh. Down to the last hour of the work day. |

I went off any semblance of a diet over the weekend.
Fri night we went to a Greek restaurant and had Taramaslata, Dolmas, avgelemono soup and baklava (all spellings approximate).
Sat., we went to a seafood reataurant where you can order mussles, crayfish, etc by the pound, so we did. We also had a salad.
Oh, and at the Scottish Games I had bangers and onions, twice.
Sun, we had a barbeque at a friend's house. Nothing outrageous.
Mon, after we got home, we had shrimp curry.
Back to the gym in the AM. I go to Curves and they are having a July challenge which involves writing down all I eat and doing my exercises 3 times a week. Well-timed, I'd say. |

Timely! Tonight's supper was black bean soup with sour cream, and crackers and cheese on the side.
I don't know how they grow. I only know they come either dried and in bags or canned. And they're yummy.
Tomorrow night hubby is going to make the leftover soup into chili.
YES YES YES pull all the recipes!! (I had once hoped that all the recipes would be put into the Cooking Guild thread, but oh well...) |

I used to have a recipe for 'grill stew' where the recipe made 6 individual servings of stew on the grill (great for camping) or it could be made in the oven.. good to make up, freeze & have individual servings for one or two, but I can't seem to find the recipe at the moment.

Perhaps we could have a thread dedicated to only recipes. And this can be the "OOC" thread where we can just talk about food.
I like beans, especially when they're in a delicious sauce and served on the side. *has cravings for mexican food now* |

'mornin'
On HoF there is a sticky for recipes, just recipes, not posts. I can ask and see if we could do that, but it might seem preferential. I could put them in the A & G forum on the thread there I suppose. The problem is that those threads would end the same way, after a closure, there go the recipes and difficult to find after that. Will do some thinking on it.
Last night indeed I had the beef stew and it was delicious. I also made some croissants to go with. I think those were just as good. Buttery and dipped in the gravy. *faint*
portia, I love Greek food so much and we really don't have a good place around where I live to have it. Have you ever tried saganaki? And I love avgolemono soup...creamy, chickeny, lemony. YUMMY.
Eru, I am with you, I love beans most anyway they are made.
Vanadarlin' You look lovely, all the time. Today is the day for the grandkids. Enjoy 143 my sweet sister.
Rose friend, too bad you can't find that recipe. If you run across it, please post it, I would be interested totally.

We had a wonderful Greek restaurant near my home years ago but the owners retired back to Greece. *sigh*
At summer camp we had something called "pocket stew," in which individuals put a burger patty, a slice of onion, and a slice of tomato into a foil wrapping and put it into the coals along with the baking potatoes. I suppose any number of foodstuffs could be cooked that way. |

Well, I suppose I could step out of the woodwork for a bit in celebration of the new foodies thread.
Yesterday for dinner I made myself brown rice, black beans, diced tomatoes with jalapenos, and pepperjack cheese. Very simple, but very delicious. I have a lot leftover so I think that is what I will eat either for lunch or dinner today, and probably for lunch or dinner tomorrow. |

Yo rwhen,
All this greenness is my garden.
Okay, so there are a few weeds. Sue me.
And I forgot to mention the parsnips yesterday. I don't know how well they'll do. Root crops and the clay don't mix very well. |

Yo Tooks!!
Great garden And those aren't weeds they are edible hedgeveg!! Looks like you have a great start on your growing season. I love parsnips too. I would think PA to have really excellent soil. VA sure did. Very fertile. I said fertile!! snerk snerk. HEY is that Louie in your garden?
Elsha!!! Your mix sounds light, fresh and delish to me, did you spritz it with some lime? Great to see you come out of lurking.
Morwenna, we used to make those in Scouts too, they were good as I recall, but I don't know if that is what Rose meant or not. |

The grill stew recipe I have (somewhere) is a recipe divided up into 6 servings and placed in tinfoil. Six potatoes, cubed, six carrots cut into chunks, Beef cut into one inch chunks (maybe a pound? a half pound?) some onion, a couple of dashes of tabasco and some golden mushroom soup.. regular cream of mushroom soup doesn't work/taste good. I am sure I am forgetting something.. if I find it I'll post it, but you can cook them on the grill, campfire or oven and I would think they would freeze for individual servings.
Elsha.. I have a dish that I love to eat that is something like that.. It's a cuban black bean & rice mix.. I pair it up with black olives, red onion, tomatoes, a dollop of sour cream.. put that all over some salad greens. YUMMY.
Rwhen.. did you *make* your own croissants?!! That seems as if it would be quite a task!
Tooksie.. nice green patch. Your name isn't Joan is it? I have a friend (Joan) who has a yard/garden that looks a lot like that! Here.. I have sand. Sand is a very 'high metabolism' soil.. it doesn't hold water, nutrients.. etc.. we need to add organic material.. clay .. whatever we can.
Vana.. we all love our food.. or we wouldn't be here! It's the rare foodie (I would think) that can retain a svelte figure and still adore food.

Hello m'dear Ayslhyn.
Thanks for the 4th recipes. We are having 16, yes SIXTEEN people over for the BBQ. All the usual fare. Burgers, dogs, potato salad, fruit salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, chips, dips, chili (not chililicious), cold cut trays, fruit trays, fruit tart and popcicles for the MANY kids that will be there.
This is a combo work/family celebration. Should be fun.
Rose friend, I don't use canned soup at all, with one exception and that IS Golden Mushroom Soup. For roasts it really gives a good broth when mixed and cooked down. I like it. And no, I can't bake for love nor money. I got the Pillsbury tin croissants. Which are really good to me. I like them a ton. |

I am (bad) in that I do not usually look or go looking for new recipes & try them. I am more of a type of person who tastes something & then either gets the recipe or goes home & tries to make it. How 'bout you all?

Great garden, Tooks! BTW, once my parents had a backyard that had a lot of clay in one area. It didn't prevent my father from growing beets and carrots--and succeeding! Good luck! |

Hi... I like food.
I tend to make some very good things (although my mom who is definitely not the world's best chef ) but only occasionally. Today I ate a bunch of junk during work and then a bunch of bland soup for dinner (I'm trying to educate people around here about herbs and their uses, but to not avail ).
However I just ate the best raspberries fresh from a local farm today. And I'll be making Salted Caramel Crunch Ice Cream for 4th of July. |

You foodies have been posting up a storm today!
I've always wondered, what
are
deviled eggs?
And my aunt made bacon wrapped jalapenos, they were as amazing as they sound. |

Bacon wrapped jalapenos are the BOMB!! Delish!! Easy to make and they don't last long I tell ya.
Eru, deviled eggs...everyone has their own recipe, but basically it is a hard boiled egg that you then cut in half and take out the yolks. Then mash up the yolks with seasonings, mayo or salad dressing, mustard and then put the filling back into the egg white...
Here is what they typically look like
. Like I said, everyone has their own recipe and I keep mine tucked close to my vest.
