Civil rights for single people, now!
We single people are tired of being discriminated against. We will not stand for it anymore. The government gives protections and tax shelters to married people while ignoring the burden this kind of bias puts on singles.
Couple-ism is rampant in our society. Landlords prefer couples to singles, and even prefer newlyweds to long-term, unmarried partners. The idea of marriage has tarnished our society. Brainwashing is a better word. The free-spirits of this country will rise up and fight in the name of individual nomadism.
Children? Bah! Make it harder so that only the wealthy can have children... there's some natural selection for you! Class structure. If you want kids then you'll have to pay for them. The only tax incentives for married couples should be in the form of free contraceptives! |

I'll join that cause.
Have you ever tried getting a single room at a hotel? Why are they more expensive than double rooms? Many hotels don't even
have
single rooms!!! Leaving your house when single is not on the schedule, it seems.

Well, there's no rule that says you have to sleep in both beds if you get a double room . But yes, it is generally cheaper to share, not surprisingly.
If I'm not raising kids, then I don't need concessions designed for people who are. I am happily single and not interested in any perks or tax breaks tailored to my situation. |

Yeah, and even in clipping coupons, it's only if you buy two or more that they're any good. Discriminatory! |

Equal rights for single people is a great idea. They can contribute an equal amount to the cost of diapers, child care, tuition, medical bills, etc. In return most parents would be very happy to give single people equal time with their kids, especially at about 8:00 at night when the kids are too tired to function but do not want to go to bed. Many parents would be willing to give equal time for fun things like the park.
Single people step right up!
Sign up for equal time/expense and get equal rights! |

Portia, not all single people are childless.
And not all singles who are childless are so by choice.
Everybody is of course welcome to have kids, as long as they are not going to fancy themselves making sacrifices for society or some such.
That said, if any parent would agree to share their kid equally (and not just when it suits them for lack of time or so) with some strangers, I suppose that could be done - those not childless by choice will probably appreciate it.
Of course, one would afterwards have to report those parents to the authorities for child-abuse. |

The world is probably over-populated. Malthus put a sustainable world capacity of 1 billion individuals. People who have children are selfish, promoting their own wishes ahead of the greater good. They should be punished!
Perhaps we could have a death lottery. We all have some form of ID number. Well, there should be a grand draw, and if your number's up, your number's up!
And, because resources are finite, and older people will, by definition, have less future resource usage, the lottery should be weighted so that the younger you are, the more chance of your number being pulled out...
Just a thought! |

The arts put man at the center of the universe, whether he belongs there or not. Military science, on the other hand, treats man as garbage— and his children, and his cities, too. Military science is probably right about the contemptibility of man in the vastness of the universe. Still— I deny that contemptibility, and I beg you to deny it, through the creation of appreciation of art.

My theory is that people get married for two reasons: 1) guaranteed sex partner; 2) guaranteed non-loneliness.
Then they call it love so that no one else knows their dirty secret. Then they want to oppress all the honest single people for being authentic human beings. We live a hard life, we under the sign of the journey for truth...
How about we have a graded tax system in which poor people get lower taxes in the form of more condoms... or
free
bottled water (with contraceptives!)... too much? That's what you get for being poor in this world buddy! Yeah, that's right... snide tax deductions. Oh yeah, it's sooo bad isn't it... government sanctioned risk-free sexcapades for the economically disadvantaged. I'm almost jealous when I put it that way... |

Have you been watching Logan's Run again?
A good comparison, but mine works oppositely. In Logan's Run, 30 and you're done. In mine, the older you get, the better your chances.
Did I say I was over 30?
So you're the old dude at the end, with the curly white beard.
I'm over thirty myself, so your reverse Logan's Run plan works dandy for me. No white beard though, yet.

Seems like those promoting marriage and kids in the political arena just might have to reassess their opinion of Las Vegas as the City of Sin, never mind it being the City of Poor Grammar.

yeah, hehe. I'm fairly convinced that a long-term sex life with a partner doesn't end up making most people happier. It's more the idea of the partnership that comforts people. After a while, most long-term relationships seem to be about a zero-sum game. Perhaps there are exceptions... there are certainly negative-sum ones... or perhaps the advantages are mainly social rather than personal.
And I can't stand having another person around all the time. It bothers me. I've been known to sit down with a book only to tell people sitting quietly in the room that they are bothering me with their presence. I'm only 1/3 facetious. I would have to have separate houses down the street or something. I need to lay diagonally on my queen size bed anyway. None of this nice neat parallel sleeping.
Yes, separate town-houses down the leafy urban walk from one another. Wake up after 9 hours of solid sleep and stroll down the boulevard with my pin striped sports coat and walking cane for a nice 40 minute breakfast of whole wheat scones and espresso. Then, after enjoying the morning sunlight for 30 more minutes, begin to plan the outlines of a day. By this time it will be 10am no doubt and time to start thinking about lunch or what kind of afternoon diversions shall ensue. |
