There is already some Hot Cinnamon Spice in the mail to you Eru. It's loose leaf so you will have to put it in a strainer. There is probably enough there for 3-6 cups, depending on how strong you like it. It should steep for 6 minutes. I probably should've put it in a larger envelope, and I am hoping it doesn't get too crushed.
Why don't we wait & see if that tea gets to you fine and then if you'd like you can send me some.

Oh, you're welcome I'm sure . . . anything to help a fellow tea lover.
I'm having a pot of my old stand-by this evening. It's been a stressful week and nothing seems to calm my nerves and smooth out the evening like Rooibos Vanilla.
Maybe I'll break into the Very Berry this weekend, LOL, or maybe the Lemon Chamomile. Mmmmmm . . .

Sorry folks.. I've been very busy these last few days. We've had absolutely gorgeous weather here.. extremely unusual for November! It must have been close to 65 F today! (what is that.. maybe 18 C) As a result I have been doing an enormous amount of yard work.
I know I have tried roobios somewhere.. maybe at a coffee shop? I couldn't find any in our local grocery store, but now that I see Republic of Tea has some.. I should be able to find that, somewhere. I'll also have to double check the Celestial Seasonings.
Scribbles.. I might just take you up on that offer. I would be happy to send you some too.. but most of the stuff I have is cinnamon.. & spicy. And has caffeine. I do have some Japanese Green Sensha (decaf) ... I am trying to think of anything unusual that I might have... (without cinnamon).

Hubby made me the most wonderful supper tonight . . . stuffed Pork tenderloin, baby rainbow potatoes (white, pink and purple, very yummy ) and steamed asparagus. He finished it off with a Saskatoon Berry pie and a pot of Madagascar Red Rooibos Vanilla tea.

Ah Rose, don't worry about sending me anything in return . . . and if you want to try anything I've mentioned, just PM me your address and I'll glady ship you samples of stuff.

I'll be watching, Scribbles. When I was coming home from work, I happened to stop by a store and get me some roobios tea. Not the ones you mentioned, like the CS or the German Vanilla Roobios, but a local store brand. It had a nutty flavor that really appealed to me. It wasn't a vanilla Roobios, but just plain. I really liked it. |

I like tea. But I'm not a herbal person, particularly. I just drink regular English black tea (Tetleys, of course ) with milk (who doesn't have milk with their tea?! Unless it's fruit or herbal, then I can understand!) and a wee bit of sugar. Yumm!
I do like Lapsang Soochong, with lots of milk (yes, I know you're not meant to have it with milk, but I like the smoky taste with the milk) and also some spicy Chai. Because I make it myself, then I can vary how sweet it is. When you buy it in cafés, it's often far too sweet. I did have a gorgeous iced spiced chai on Cape Cod once, though.
There's a lovely tea café in Glasgow where I had some tea called Fairy's Blood. It's essentially a mixture of strawberry, raspberry and lots of other red berries. I'm not into herbal teas in general. But fruit tea I quite like, although I have to have it quite strong so that I can taste it. |

*shudders at the thought*
I even drink tea from Tetley's tea bags just black, but I'd admit that it would probably be no problem for the taste of the tea to add milk or sugar or both.
The tea 'dust' that goes into tea-bags is usually the dregs of the crop, really, and I also guess that the very small particles somehow give off more bitter flavours than a whole leaf.
Still, even before there were tea-bags, the typical blends drunk in Britain and the north of Germany always consisted of teas which are very strong, tangy and bitter (mostly from Assam and Kenya). That's why people in these areas developed similar habits to add both milk and sugar (both having little ceremonial ways in which this has to be done if done properly ).
If, however, you prepare good-quality leaf tea from areas like Ceylon, Darjeeling, you'll get a result that definitely tastes best pure.
(Of course, you can get tangy teas from these areas, too, and mild ones from Assam, just a very general guideline.)
Tea is really much like wine: where it's grown, what variety of plant and how it's treated after harvest, and even how it's served, all influence the taste. |

Milky tea is pretty popular here in the UK, but that would be because the tea we usually drink is quite strong and bitter.
I do know people who instead of having tea from teabags use loose leaves, and it still needs milk as far as I'm concerned!
I can drink tea without milk, but without sugar? Nope. Although I don't need that much. (And it has to be either sugar or honey. Sweetener just doesn't do it for me - I can taste the artificialness and it's horrid.) |

Scribbles, you and I are both blessed with hubbies who cook!
Now I'm hankering for some vanilla rooibos, and here I am at work...
I said it before and I'll say it again: I cannot deal with milk in my tea, unless it's chai (where all the spices disguise the tea flavor), because of a childhood problem when I was sick. If I have to "mellow" tea, I sweeten it more, but in general I only sweeten tea just enough to take the raw edge off. Tea in Chinese restaurants doesn't need anything at all, in my experience. Very rarely I find a tea at home that doesn't need it either. |

Eru.. did you ever get the tea I sent you?
Scribbles.. I'll look for Vanilla rooibos around here.. and I'll let you know if I don't find any.
I find chai far too sweet (and rich!) as well.
helonia, I had tried tea with milk before.. but it tasted awful.. but when I was in Scotland, I had tea with milk and it was lovely. My daughter & I went to the Willow tea rooms when we were in Glasgow. They had a simply divine tea! We had a very nice lunch there. But milk (for some odd reason) takes away the antioxidant properties of tea.. so I have not made a habit of it.
On a daily basis I have taken to drinking green &/or white tea for good health.. with a little honey & lemon. But I still love my Hot cinnamon spice.
Would anyone else like to try some? I'd be happy to send you some.

Not yet, I hope it didn't get stopped at the border.
I like drinking my tea with milk, so I generally like black teas more, except for Rooibos. |

So, back with an apple tea - which is OK but not totally my taste. We get free tea in bags at the office. And that comes in all sorts (vanilla Rooibos amongst it ). I usually drink peppermint (which we have run out of ) because I find that you do not get tired of that taste after a while (as happens with the other tea around here) and it's great no matter if it is hot, lukewarm or cold. I have a flat enamel Chinese teapot which keeps surprising people who want to share their kettle-water with me and realise that the half liter that is left in the kettle is not enough for my teapot. Cause it's bigger on the inside.
At home I have lots of loose tea in all shades: black, green, Rooibos, fruit, herbal ... The only sorts I don't like are camomile, aniseed, fennel and black tea that is too strong to drink without milk. Cause I like my tea pure.
It's great to read all your tea stories, by the way. Makes the mouth water, it does. |

Here
is an article stating that adding milk doesn't alter the anti-oxident properties of tea - although unfortunately it's only the abstract.
Interestingly, I read an article published in January 2007 that specifically stated that "Previous studies have shown that tea protects against cardiovascular disease, but nobody had investigated the effect of adding milk to the drink." which is obviously blatantly untrue considering that the previous article I posted was from 2005! I hate what is known as "bad science" - when people, mostly the media, distort the facts or just don't do any kind of research! Argh!
This article
states that the addition of milk counter-acts the effects of tea on vascular function (although frankly 16 people is too small a sample to be provide stastically accurate results). Also, I've read an interesting point about anti-oxidents in that too much is not necessarily a good thing at all: in fact too many anti-oxidents can be worse for you than not enough! (This the reason why I take all "scientific" studies published in the press as gospel with a huge pinch of salt!) [I would provide the actual quote on that, but it is out of a book that I've currently misplaced. ]
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that the evidence seems a bit inconclusive (and also adding milk gives you the bonus of getting some calcium ) and
Rose,
if you want to add milk to your tea half the time, I'm sure you'll be fine.
[ETA: In fact, adding milk to tea seems to have no effect on anti-oxidents, but it does appear to effect the health benefits of tea on the cardiovascular system. Either way, milk or no milk, you're still getting some benefit! ]
[ETA #2: Apparently Green Tea is a lot more healthy with lemon juice added due to the lemon juice allowing more anti-oxident catchetins be absorbed as opposed to drinking green tea on its own. (

And adding milk to black tea binds tannin, which makes it harmless, which otherwise has supposed to have esophagael cancer-causing properties!

I once bought a package of Peppermint Green Tea. Didn't like it, but brought it to work in case I'd need something warm because of a cold or something (they only had coffee and bad black tea in the house). I never needed it, and left it there when I left the place.
But, green tea with lemon is one of my favourites, and seems that it's a healthy one. |

Helonia.. wow. Complicated. Either way.. I drink enough tea that I think I have no problem getting benefits from it.
Scribbles, not all green teas taste the same, but if you like herbal/rooibos only.. you may not like them at all.
Eru! It's STILL not there?! Hmm.. It must have gotten stopped at customs. I'll try sending it in a larger padded envelope.
