The beginning of the third age was a peaceful and prosperus time. With the threat of Sauron and Saruman gone, the people couldsleep at night and work through the day without having to worry for their lives. Although there were a few bands of orcs scattered randomly through-out Middle earth the AML kept there numbers from getting too large. Barely ever did any orcs manage to cause any trouble. Many feilds that were chared black were returning to green plains. The winter of Middle earth (3rd age) had passed and now it was spring (4th age).

but little did anyone know, the forces of darkness were hidden bidding their time, growing in strength. But they no longer postioned themselved in one place like before. They scattered themselves all over middle earth. And they hated everything and everyone that defeated their master Sauron.

Many many years later a figure walked into the shire and asked for leadership, but only so he could live in the shire with out being bothered. But the hobbits wouldn't let him stay. So after a long time of mourning he ordered his armies to march on the shire. Thousands and thousands of orcs and other awfull creatures marched out from the blue mountains, from the mountains and forest north of the guld of Lhun, from the old fortress of the witch king in Carn Dum, the gigantic hordes of Orcs and other creatures that had been growing ever since the secound age in Moria, the tribes of the trolls in the Trollshaws which were always allies to darkness. All those armies marched towards the land of the shire on the word of the small figure who was't allowed into the shire. But the small figure knew that the hobbits had strong allies that might try and attack his flanks, so he ordered the largest force of darkness (which was from mordor) to attack the gates of Minas Tirith. He also asked the Southerlings and other tribes of men to attack, and they were more than happy to help. So the oliphants and their seige towers once again stormed the white tower and the endless waves of orcs joined them. The full might larger than the number that attacked Pelennor Feilds. Finally the elves and dwaves were left alone because they had no way of joining the war. For the misty mountains prevented any allies to get by. And the secound largest host of orcs in middle earth in Dul Guldur patroled the northern area of ME just incase they tried. The swarms of spiders from mirkwood offered to help because they craved the blood and meat of war. And last all the packs of wolves roamed the lands between isenguard and edoras to keep the men of rohan in line.

So the tiny army of the Aml sat outside the shire waiting to strike the main force of darkness which they thought was centred in hobbiton while they were slowely surrounded by the invincible armies of darkness. And the allies were to busy guarding there own lands to help.

So the figure said out loud

" I wished to save this land which once was my love, but they refused my offer. So now i Samwise-Jr will destroy it !! "

And with that said a flying creature, a nazgul, one of the last flew from the sky and swooped up Samwise to carry him to the fron t lines. MAny saw his eyes burn red that day, but they could not tell if it was hate or compassion they burned with. So it came that the forces of darkness flanked the AML and began the war...

I think most of the host of Mordor and most of the AML is in some other time zone, because it's just you and me in here. Maybe Belegur will show up soon, but whatever, he is delusional and keeps saying "I am Melkor, I am Melkor!".

So it's the two of us and our armies. Although you were very unsportsmanlike as to define my army and our locations without any AML input, I will show how you left some holes in your glorious plans.

First of all, you are NOT riding on a Nazgul, since the Nazgul were the evil Numoreans who had rings of Power and they are long gone. You must be referring to one of those hideous beasts that the Nazgul used as winged steeds. I will allow you this, but please, no more major deviations from Tolkien possibility!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

My first blow to your little onslaught is this: the attack of the Great Eagles! They have been watching the grouping of your forces and the AML is likewise apprised of all your movements. We are not unprepared nor unaware. The first thing that happens is Lord of the Eagles, Gwaithir, swoops over and rips the head off of your fell winged ride, and you fall headlong to the center of Hobbiton.

By some cruel luck, you survive the fall even though your back and legs are broken. You are surrounded by the leaders of the AML and will be drawn and quartered immediately if you don't order the withdrawal of your forces...

One-hundred black cloaked men, tall and grim, surrond the fallen figure of Samwise-JR. They carry blades of purest black, etched with silver runes of mithril and a single red ruby in the pommel of each. Though the armies of the AML advance to murder the rightful ruler of the Shire and its surrounding lands, this small force stands its ground.

A single warrior, bearing the device of Mordor tatooed on his right cheek, steps forward holding his blade menacingly at the throat of Haole-feet. His voice is loud and clear when he adresses the green hosts of the AML. "I am Hamlet, leader of the last men of Carn Dum. We serve the Black Lord of Mordor and all of his allies. You have unlawfully attacked Samwise-JR, servant of Mordor. You shall molest him no more."

The thunderous drums of the hordes of Mordor sound in the distance as hundreds of thousands of orcs make their way toward the western edge of Hobbiton. The sound rolls off the hills like a horrible storm, deafening all those within hearing. The most distant hills turn black with swarms of orcs, trolls, spiders, and other loyal creatures of the true power of Middle Earth as they form orderly legions and prepare for the assault.

"Go from this place, servants of the AML. Go back, and defend your cities, and your women, and your children, and your fields or you will have no home to limp back to when you are defeated here. Leave this field peacefully, and you will be allowed to leave this land in peace."

even as the battle raged, the puny aml seemed to be engulfed, but managed to stand it's ground. the orcs grew desperate. they knew samwise was wounded inside the defences and was about to be captured. the fate of the battle now lay in the balance. just as it seemed they would not break through in time, one of the generals of the raiding horde, rode forward on his fell steed. behind him rode the elite core of horsemen, long in training in mordor. their sheer savagery had earned them the nickname the legion of doom. they now prepareed to breach the defences of the shire.
their leader skrewball raised his hand. for a moment, time seemed to stand still. then, his hand dropped, and the legion charged. they smashed the defenders of the shire with all the hatred of being persecute for eons. the hatred and fury of the black horsemen was uncontrollable. thay stormed through the aml, and reached the side of the brave defenders of samwise. however, the hole in the defence was closed up before the orcish host could pour through.

[OOC(Out Of Character) for you feet... You need to story tell and not just talk. And try not to change my story... ANd about the position of the AML, it was stated in a different thread by denother that the force of the AMl was outside Hobbiton. So now you know that i am only repeating what i was told. I appologize calling my winged steed a nazgul, but i was rushing to finish my story. For a warning, i'm telling you now that what i'm about to wright is based on my character in other threads, so i have had this power before..]

Samwise sat in the middle of the circle of his body guards. He looked at his broken legs twisted and bent in odd directions. He looked up at his men, standing strong and protecting his life. He saw one of them fall, and he became enraged. His body began to transform from the small hobbit body to a gigantic troll, named BLod. He stood well above all the other troops. With a commanding yell he got the troops to spread, making way for him to go through. Cupping his hands together he formed a great energy between them and thrust it outwards. Like a wave in the ocean it threw the members of the AML away to the side. Then turning his palms upwards he lifted his arms, causing 2 walls of earth to form making a safe path for him and his men back to the forces of darkness.

So Blod and the men were back at the front lines, and the aml was surrounded like Samwise-BLod was just minutes before. " NOw you know my true form !! and my true power ! I am a mage of Mordor, taught in the ancient ways !! Prepare to die !"

Then Blod brought his arm into the air and brought it down to point at the arm. Then endless clouds of bats covered the sky causing it to turn black. And the bats bits the eagles and tore their flesh from their bodies, killing many of the great beasts. The other eagles took flight and retreated, many of the bats followed, but the others stayed to claw the faces of the AmL army, causing blindness to many !

(OOC) I am still learning the ropes - I'm having great fun! However, when I complained about your description of the AML forces I was referring to all of our allies across ME that you have already taken out of the mix by saying they are cut off or surrounded, etc. I realize that this is just part of the story-telling, so I'm cool with it now. Thanks to Tolkien for this opportunity to expand his wonderful history!!!!

(Back in character) May the Valar help us!!! We assumed that the Mages and Maia of Melkor's mischief had all passed on to other dimensions or had hidden themselves deep in the darkest delves of ME.

Samwise-JR has indeed shown his true form and it is hideous. Who will come to the ramparts of the Shire to save us from this evil throng??? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

A great chear went up among the remaining men of Carn Dum when Samwise-JR arose in great power from the ground. At his bidding, they parted and bore witness to the great magicks that he wrought to the confusion of the AML. The power that crackled around his arms and hands like lightning glinted on the fell blades of his allies as he led them through the very ranks of the AML bearing their fallen comrade on a makeshift stretcher to the healers still on the borders of the Shire. Hamlet, in an act of contempt of the AML, sheathed his blade and strode boldly unarmed through the hosts of Gondor's allies.

The valiant men of Rohan thundered towards the Shire to help with the battle, their horses glistening with sweat. A single wolf cry was barely heard over the thundering hooves. But the one grew into many, until hundreds of blood curdling howls overcame the noise. But the riders were noble and their horses well-trained and of sturdy stock. They did not falter.

But then they saw it. Two hordes of wolves on an intercept course to cut them off. They might be able to outrun them, but they would have to push their steeds to the limit, making them useless to the Shire's defense. Their commander realized they would have to fight.

At the head of the lead pack of wolves was a huge black warg, his fur glowing with dark power. And he spoke! "LIGHTFOOT, I CHALLENGE YOU!"

Here was their chance to get a measure of revenge on their cousins, the hated Dúnedain.

The wind rippled in their proud banners as the fleet made its way up the Eriadorian coast. They had kept far out on the open sea until now to avoid any unnecessary entaglements with the Gondorian fleet. And they had succeded.

Akôrahil stood on the flagship, proudly surveying the progress of his mighty force. They would sail up the Greyflood that evening, and land at Tharbad. Dealing with the weak garrison there shouldn't prove difficult. The foolish Dúnedain didn't expect any enemy to make an assault that far north...

And then, after a short march, he would bring an army of Númenoreans to the aid of Samwise Jr.

(OOC)Belegur - It doesn't really matter who they were, the point I was making was that they are "no more" because of the destruction of the One Ring. They were only bound to this plane through the evil power of the Nine Rings they wore. Once the One was gone, so were they. You are right that they weren't all Numenorean.

*****
As the valiant and outnumbered forces of the Shire surveyed the host of darkness before them, some turned to their innermost sacred communication with the Valar. In the Northwest part of the Shire, an ancient altar lied within the remains of a Noldor temple. A party of three went to the altar and kneeling offered a humble plea to Ulmo to protect the rivers and ponds of the Shire against the foe and indeed make them rise up against the forces of Mordor.

Unbeknownst to them, Ulmo chose to show his mercy to them by calling up a tremendous tempest to drown out the forces of the Black Numenoreans, who had dared to trepass his domains with their dark ships, notwithstanding their open rebellion against the Valar. In a rage, the Sea rose up against the ships, destroying half of them, and sending the remainders crashing up on the shores, far South of their initial destination.

Waterlogged, trembling with fear, and cursing "The Pourer", they tried to steady themselves for the now 100-league march to the Shire.

(ooc-huan is dead)

the battle for the shire reached fever-pitch. neither side was willing to surrender a foot of groung. the aml made a wall from the bodies of the fallen, anmd fought from behind it. however, none could withstand the combined forces of the three greatest generals of sauron, skrewball, sam and hamlet. news had reached them that the rohirrim had been intercepted by red maw and hs fearsome hordes. the black hosts of belegur even now rushed to aid their mordorian comrades. many acts of valour were by that day witnessed. yet, the tremendous carnage coused by the orc-hosat could not bre withstood by the aml, and the slowly began to fall back.

The AML was in disaray. On a small hill that over looked the battle seated on a huge black stallion was a lone figure dressed in black, he watched as the forces of redmaw met the noble but doomed Rohirim... he was the the advaced force of the black Neumenorians and there was 1,000 of them in his task force... he rasied a gloved hand and they crested the hill for all of ME to see and then the Lieutenant of Barad-dur, The Mouth of Sauron orderd his cavalry to trap and destroy the Rohirim... and He rode forward with them... to Victory.

And then a rousing cry came from deep within the masses. A figure in a blue cloak pushed her way to the head of the crowd and up to the front line.
"Wanderers for the Shire!!" she cries and lunges head first into the battle. She waves her lead pipe 'round and makes a path for her friends of the light to pass through, leaving a trail of orc heads behind her.

(OOC I told you I'd see you here skrewball)

As the Númenorean force advanced, Akhôrahil recieved reports that the Mouth's task force had engaged the enemy. Already the battlefield was within sight. Ordering a halt, he stood in front of them, crying in a mghty voice: "Men of Númenor! Now the hour of battle is come at last! Already our kinsmen are dying the land with the blood of our enemies! For the Glory of Númenor, Charge!"

And with a great shout, the host surged forward to victory.

Hamlet and his knights fought bitterly for every inch of bloodstained ground. Tookland had been a terrible battle with hobbits firing volleys of arrows from hidden vantages, but now the knights of Carn Dum numbered only eighty-three with only 70\% of their starting forces. Now, the bloodstained forces turned their attention toward Hobbiton where the first blows had been struck.

Hamlet raised his gory blade over his head and cried, "By nightfall, Bag End shall be ours!" A thunderous cheer swelled up from all the hosts of Mordor and brought new energy to the battle as thousands of dark men, trolls, and orcs converged on the leaders of the AML from the now bloody halls of Tookland.

Seeing that his challenge would pass unmet, the great wolf took his bloodlust out on the Rohirrim that dared to face him. His wolves leapt at the horses, shattering legs and tearing sides. Riders were thrown from their saddles, but due to their expert horsemanship most made it intact. That is, until they met grisly doom at the monstrous wolf's mighty jaws...

The armies of the knights of Carn Dum drew up in a great mass with the 82 remaining lords. Bloodstained and wearied, the army stood still to catch its breath as the battle slowed around them. The sounds of battle were drowned out by the moaning of the wounded and dying of both sides of the conflict. It almost seemed as if the armies of Mordor had won the field.

Then, out of the east, a voice roared in rage and pain combined. It was River_Daughter. Her robes were drenched with the black blood of orcs and trolls and she was swinging a heavy leaden pipe as if it were a mighty sword, sending heads and bodies about her feet in a great ring. When there were no more enemies within reach to slay, she stopped too and glanced about till she spied Hamlet standing on a rise.

Both were terrible to look upon for they were stained with gore and weariness hung upon them like a cloak. Their eyes met, and the challenge was made.

"River_Daughter! Stand forth and be challenged!" he roared over the clamour of the war around them. He raised his bloodstained sword in salute.

(OOC-River_Daughter, I don't want to kill you, and I don't think you really want to kill me. Why not make this non-lethal combat. I'd say to the first blood, but that's probably a moot point by now.)

(OOC-Don't be so quick to end the battle, Haole-feet. I haven't been able to post here because I've had to study a lot of Japanese and I've also had to figure out what to say. This is art! and it takes a little thought before slapping it down on paper.)

(Back in Character)
A wide space was opened between the ranks of orcs and trolls, a ring already stained in blood and trampled by iron-shod boots. Hamlet stepped into the ring and removed his cloak, throwing it to a nearby knight.

On the other side of the excited ring, River_Daugter, cald in her robes and tall leather boots entered. She had cast aside her lead pipe in favour of a long, gleaming sword. Hamlet eyed the blade for he could see that it held great concealed power in the hands of its owner.

"Find those damned Elves!" Hamlet shouted at the gawking spectators. "You're not here to watch a tournament." The orcs and trolls grudgingly turned back to hunting down the Elven Knights under the command of Haole-feet and the few remaining Hobbits. "Any carcass you kill is yours to keep!" At this, the formerly despondent hordes cheered deafeningly and joyfully set about hacking and maiming Firstborn and Hobbits.

"Now, we shall settle this River_Daughter. I have lost too many good men to your pipe and will not allow you to continue your antics." Hamlet raised his sword in grim salute to his foe, then assumed a fighting stance.

(OOC-River_Daughter, I suggest we handle this like they did in "The Wizard's Duel": pick a number between 1 and 10 and the closest wins the round. The march had been cruel and difficult; nearly four months hard marching but their task was still at hand. Though it had been many years the lords of Erebor and Dale still felt fealty to the distant house of Baggins and the kind hearted inhabitants of the Shire. Thus, though they too faced terrible war at the foot of the mountain, they resolved to send a small force west. Grim faced Lysandros of Dale was dispatched with a score of hardy horse-warriors. Their goal was to travel in the far north and reach the dwarven kingdoms of the Blue Mountains and rouse them to the aid of the poor shire-folk and the desperate members of the AML. The rising of the enemy had hardly been secretive and it was long known that the agents of the old Enemy would prepare their heaviest blow against the race responsible for the destruction of Sauron's greatest weapon.
Steering clear of the fiendish spiders of the Greenwood and taking ways through the wastes of northern Arnor they arrived nigh the Gulf of Lune just as the steel ring of the enemy had enclosed the fair land of the Halflings. The Dwarves had been loath to leave the safety of their caverns since this would give away their secret entrances to the enemy but Lysandros had eventually convinced them. Now, just as the River Daughter prepared for combat against the terrible Hamlet the Dalemen and their small force of 200 Dwarves marched to the tops of the west hills of the Shire and survey the carnage, plottting their next move.

"Find those damned Elves!" Hamlet shouted at the gawking spectators. "You're not here to watch a tournament." The orcs and trolls grudgingly turned back to hunting down the Elven Knights under the command of Haole-feet and the few remaining Hobbits. "Any carcass you kill is yours to keep!"

As Haole-feet saw the Orcs take heart again at their Captain's words, he called his Elves into line for the battle. As the horde approached, the Elves began to retreat back to the woods...yet...they didn't seem to be walking or moving at all.

The Orcs, seeing the apparent retreat, clamored and cheered and fell into a headlong run towards the seemingly stationary Elves.

What was going on? The Elves were now almost in the Trees, yet they will still as stone, facing their numerous foes with fearlessness.
THEN THEY CAME!!!!!!! LIKE THE RUSH OF A THOUSAND WINDS, the Ent-Wives!!!, alive and awoken by the tree-speaking Elves, rushed past the still stationary Elves and burst through the throng of orcs and trolls, ripping and tearing and grinding every Mordor fiend within their reach.

Within moments the entire horde was engulfed and encircled by the Wives of Old, whose fury is far worse than the Males of their race.
Not a single orc survived, and only a handful of trolls had the strength to break free from the Ent-Wives' clutches.

A cheer went up among the Elves and the Ent-Wives began a long song:
"Barrrroooooooom, baroooooom!
The Wives are we so death to thee
The Mordor-folk, The Mordor-folk
The Shire is free and will ever be
from the Mordor-folk, the Mordor-folk
Tales we've heard from birds and bees
of the Mordor-folk, the Mordor-folk
Felling trees and burning leaves
The Mordor-folk, the Mordor-folk
Now finish them off and end their deeds
The Mordor-folk, the Mordor-folk
And meet our Ents down by the Seas
No more Mordor-folk, Mordor-folk!"

Much longer was the Ent-Wives' song, but time allows not for it's full recital. The Wives and Elves now closed in on the remaining foes, now outnumbered themselves, and wedged in a triangle between the Elven Knights/Ents, the AML vanguard, and the Men of Dale with the Dwarves.

"River_Daughter! Finish Hamlet, and let us cast the remnants to the Ents!"
