The Golden Trout

Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

Postby Dewmoss » Mon Jul 17, 2000 10:51 am

Tired of the journey, Dewmoss enters "the Golden Trout", she looks around and notices characters such Imrahil, Tempest, Vlheid, Faerie, MOS, Anriel Mendereth, Genuvere, Arthedain and Snowdog, among others. To this last one she approaches and, after asking the bar keeper for a glass of red wine, she says to Snowdog:
"You said you wanted to know where I come from, and would consider an honour to be my friend, yet I fear there are hidden, sorrowful memories behind my name ... "

Vlheid stares around in moderate amusement. Hmph. A place called "The Golden Trout"...I would have at least taken it for a fish n' chips stand. Heh, at least the ale's good.

"Hello there, Dewmoss," Vlheid grins, "I don't suppose you'd happen to know why this place is called such, would you?"

Having found herself magicly teleported into the Golden Trout Inn, Genuvere orders up beer-batter Fish and Chips, and an ale. This is a clean place with sea-ship windows, and a gambling numbers wheel shaped as a ships steering wheel.

Snowdog tips his fresh glass of ale and looks at Dewwmoss as she sits and talks to him. He then says to her,

"Many a sorrow is hidden in many names, for if you knew those hidden in mine, you would probably not want to talk to me. But the past only haunts those who dwell on them. Yes, I would like to know wher you are from, and I would still, despite any sorrows you may hide, be honored to consider you a friend. Though your hidden sorrows are your own to share with me or not. I will gladly listen and talk with you of hidden sorrows, yours and mine."

Arwen realises that she is not, really, in The Prancing Pony, but some oddly named inn. The Golden Trout? Sounds like a knock-off of the Green Dragon. But, being a fan of fish, she decides to igve the new inn a try. She orders some wine and observes the activity.

Imrahil has just realised that someone has taken him to an inn called The Golden Trout. Doesn't sound too bad, though, and as he's ravenous he orders a large plate of fish'n chips and a pint of kilkenny.

Then he notices an old friend passing outside. He jumps up, heads to the door and shouts: "Hey, MOS. Why don't you come in for a bit?"

In comes a company of the King's Soldiers, just back from the northern front, and they all take tables and darn near fill the place. They order food and beers, and Commander Aord sits and sips his beer and looks around, noticing that Forinor is NOT there!

(ooc- Forinor is at the Nameless Inn, which is officially posted offlimits to the army <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> )

Snowdog, being intrigued somewhat by the Elf-woman Dewmoss, takes his glass of ale and stands, and says to Dewmoss,
"There is a path through the woods out back that goes by the creek, where there is a falls and a place to sit. There the sound of the water will make any ears at a distance unable to hear what is said quietly. Would you like to walkthere withme?"

As Commander Aord decides to go look for Forinor, He leaves his young lieutenant, Goformor in charge here at the Trout. Aord heads out the door and calls for a couple of MP's that were taking a break to accompany him. As he left, in through the room came a woman who even got Commander Aord to turn his head and check her out. She looked around some and it looked like she thought about leaving, but Lieutenant Goformor stood and signalled that they had room at their table if she wanted a drink. She started to walk over, and the soldiers at the other table watched her as she went by. Most were gentlemen, but some whistled and made some under-breath comments, She came to Lieutenant Goformor and he introduced himself. "Hi dear lady, please excuse some of my men as they have been long up north at the Orc and Sagath wars, and they haven't seen one as pleasing to the eye as you in many months. May I buy you a drink of your choice?" and he offered her a chair at his table.

MOS, looks intently into Arish eyes for the longest moment, if Arish could have looked upon the heart of MOS, or if anyone could have seen it, they would have seen a great saddness timesed over and over again.

The moment passed... "Who am I?"
"That's a good question, but to start with it would be easyer to tell you who I was..." "You see i was the Herald of Sauron and lieutenant of The Tower of Barad-dur, and my name is not remembered in any tale; and I myself have forgotten it; I Am The Mouth Of Sauron."
MOS noticed Arish tremble at the sound of his name... " I was powerful in the magical arts and a fell worrior, the cries and screams of the dammed was music to my ears, but for the time that Sauron fell I have repented of my ways and doing my best to make up for the pain and grife I have caused, but thank to noble people like imrahil, the prince of Dol Amroth, who has believed in me, who know how I would have turned out..., but there you have it, at times I speak not at all but know I have spoken .... may be to much and all you asked for was "who are you?" and now you know as much as anyone does... but forgive me I dont mean to bore you "
"Please tell me a little of yourself, if you will?"
"Wow...a Lady with grit." said Lt. Goformor, "I think my men will trouble you not, though they may wish you were beside them in the front lines if ye battle as well as ye talk. But this is a time for relaxation. Maybe later, we could demonstrate skills with the sword, and you can spar with our best swordsman Forinor.... where is he anyway..."

Snowdog and Dewmoss exit from the inn, and they soon enter the wood. The Elf-lady has a stern look upon her face, but it soon vanishes from her face as she collapses, crying, in Snowdog's arms.
"I have feared so much, noble friend, I have hated so much!", she cried, still weeping. "I was so confused... it all happened so fast... I can't even remember how it all began. My loneliness has only made me even lonelier. All these days and nights, trying to forget my sorrow, my pain, trying to run away from my fears.. They have been no use." She straightens and looks at Snowdog, looking at his eyes. "You have surprised me. I see you still want to know my secrets, although I have warned you they are dark and doomed."
"But how do you...?" he asks, but Dewmoss interrupts:
"Ah, your eyes give away your thoughts. I can see through your mind as clearly as I can see through fresh water. You have a white soul," she says, feeling the quiet beat of Snowdog's heart. "Please take me now to the place you told me about." They begin to move through the small forest, but Dewmoss pauses and looks at Snowdog; "You must promise me you will not speak about this with anyone."

Arish looked agian at MOS, and decided to tell her story. "I am not much more than an elven warrior lass, I have travelled to many parts of Middle Earth, searching, but never finding, I have seen sorrow and pain, as well as joy and happiness. I go from town to town, sometimes entertianing young folks with my less sorrowful tales, sometimes helping to ward off attacking orcs. I have wandered for a very long time, searching for the peace and happiness I never had in my childhood." Here Arish stopped. She turned her head aside to hide a tear. Obviously the rest was to painful to remember. After a moment she turned back and smiled. "But now is not the time to be sad, for we are in the company of friends!" Arish said as music started. "Come, won't you dance with me?"

Snowdog walked and sipped his ale as they went through the wood. The sudden stopping of Dewmoss and her holding close to Snowdog and her words were unexpected, for he thought she wanted to only talk where no ears could hear. He looked around the wood, but saw or sensed nothing. Trying not to spill his glass of ale, Snowdog held Dewmoss close to comfort her with his free arm, and he said as they started to walk again,

"Lady, I see also the sorrow that is inside you, and I will speak not of any that you are willing to tell. It may do well for ye to tell someone who is willing to listen, and it may help in healing."

She stayed close as they walked into a clearing and they went down a short stair. They came to a place near where the creek fell about 20 feet over the broken rocks, and the whitewater made much music and was soothing in its melody. Dewmoss on a flat rock near the falls, and drops of water could be felt splashing up from the stream which was refreshing in the summer morning sun.

"Now, Lady Dewmoss, I keep secret all you say, and no ears can get close enough to hear quiet speech without being seen first. Please speak freely."

And the sun shone on her and Snowdog wondered at the immortal woman, and he sat next to her on the rock.

Seeing Arish rising, MOS knells on one knee before her and gently taking her hand he softly presses it to his forehead, " you are a fair lady of the race that die not, in your presence I do not belong, but your kind offer I accept, for you have honoured me and humbled me by your words and this act."

Arish raised MOS with a smile, " come let us dance" came the sweet voice, and so they did... full of grace and gentalness... and for a little while their sorrows were forgotten.
