Annuminas Inn continuation

Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

OOC - This is a thread continued from the Annuminas Inn. Some questers have gathered to rescue Sirhiril. But we are happy to welcome new companions.
One fine morning the questers meet in a little grove a little north of Annuminas. There are Maradir (man, blonde but with Dunadan features), Annavar (man, brown hair), Libur (dwarf), Khorazîr (Southron), the Ladies Rana and Christina (who will hopefully elaborate on their disguise when they make an appearance). We are posing as a band of outlaws, so our looks are not too good at the moment...

Maradir, Annavar, and Libur rode into the grove. They were the first to arrive at their meeting point.
"Hopefully, they'll all get here all right," Maradir mused.
They had hardly demounted when they heard a horse approaching at full gallop. Maradir's hand instinctively slid to his sword. But then he recognized Khorazîr. The Southron came to an aprupt halt just in front of them and sprang from his horse. "The ladies haven't arrived yet?" he asked.
"Not yet," Maradir answered and took the horse's reins. It was one of Rohirric breed like his own horse Sablefel. "Is that Eowyn's present?" Maradir asked the Southron.
Khorazîr cocked an eyebrow. "You seem to know more about me than I thought..."

Rána was the next to join the company. After dismounting from her dark horse, she took off her gray cloak. She was wearing the dark green raiment given to her by Alya. She was dressed simply and her only ornament was the five-rayed star that hung from a chain. The star, which was a gift from her father, symbolized her love for the Sea. The chain was exquisite for it was wrought of mithril, taken from the mines of the dwarves in ages past.

In the bright morning light, the companions had a better look at Rána. She had a fair complexion and a delicate figure. Meanwhile, her face was kind but her eyes were enchanting. They were a shade of green, rarely seen during those times. Her hair, dark as night, framed her face and contrasted the color of her eyes perfectly.

She spoke to Maradir. "So, which part do I play? I am uncertain if I even look the part." She showed her sheathed sword. "And should I hold on to this?"

(ooc-Have I elaborated my appearance enough for you? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>)

Christina rode along the road slowley on her perfectly white steed - she was dressed in black - with a Black hooded cloak only a lock of her golden hair showing, as she approached the group she looked at them all - her blue eyes glistened like ice on a sunny day, they noticed she had rather elven features for a human......
"i hope i have dressed appropriately - and do elabourate on what i have to do - and what exactly am i? A prisoner? She looked at Rána and Smiled - Hello - so who exactly are we waiting for now? I hope I'm not the last!" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

"You are indeed the last to arrive," Maradir replied. "But we haven't waited too long. As to your roles, I'd appreciate if you were willing to play outlaws."
Both Christina and Rana looked at him expectantly. "And I suggest the Lady Rana keep her sword. That looks far more authentic. And the wonderful gem she wears, can be loot we have found somewhere." He saw Rana's eyes widen as he referred to the star as loot. "I'm sorry to have put it that way."
Then he turned to look on Christina. "Black is the right colour, but your features are just too - Elven?" He looked questioningly on her.

"Elven?" She said with interest "your not the only one to have noticed - but i can assure you that my parents were human - though i just look rather elf like - some might say......."
"I have brought a sword also" - she unbuttoned her cloak to show it to the gaterering..... It was silver and shone in the morning sun - it had what looked like a stem and a flower embedded in it...... it was quite unusual, though very beautiful.
A soft wind blew and her hood blew down - revealing her golden hair - though placed around her head was a purple heart on a silver chain in sparkled - it was almost hypnotising - it was surly magical she quckly replaced her hood in a flurry and smiled at thse who stood around - "So when are we moving good fellows?"

"I shall be an outlaw then," nodded Rána. She decided it would be better if she covered her green raiment with her gray cloak. It would make her look more like an outlaw instead of innocent maiden. Looking up, she noticed that the sky seemed to be darkening. She hoped that they would get going before rain fell. Remembering something else, she asked. "Are we to pose as your mates or merely your companions?"

"Yes - that is what I also wanted to know - But i do suggest we start moving soon - it looks like it could rain" - She said looking at the clouds. The first drop of rain ran down her cheek like a tear - a cry for help.

Khorazîr glanced up at the sky and slightly shook his head, while taking the reins of his horse again and mounting. "You know, where I come from rain is always welcome because we rarely get it, especially during the summer. But in these parts ... - never in my whole life have I been drenched as often as during my journey from Gondor up here. But as for your question, Lady Rána", he continued, "well, I guess 'tis up to you what part you would like to play."

He looked at the others, who by now were all mounted (the dwarf looking a little uncomfortable on his stout pony - apparently he was not used to riding). "Well then, I guess 'twould best if either Maradir or Annavar lead the way. And swiftly", he added, as more rain started to fall. Covering his long dark (but already in parts grey-flecked) hair with a hood, he lined up behind Maradir as they set out.

Maradir and Annavar had consulted Rana's maps before leaving and they set a high pace, moving roughly north-westward.
"We should reach Lordel, Himohtar, and Torun in the early afternoon and our camping-place by nightfall. That is, if the rain doesn't get worse and hinders our progress," Annavar said.
Maradir rode up to Rana. "So, have you made your mind up? Who are you going to be?"

Rána thought for a moment then laughed. It was soft and sweet. "I have never been anyone's mate before but I think I shall try it for the meantime. Whose shall I be? Mind you, I'm not a very good cook." She paused. "I'm sorry for laughing. I know this is a grave matter but I could not help it. It's been a while since I've had a good laugh. I have been on hard and long journeys and mostly, alone."

"Well, Lady Rána, the choice is entirely yours, I guess", Khorazîr said. "But it seems to me that Master Annavar here would be dissappointed indeed if you did not choose him", he added with a rather mischievous grin, which even broadened when Annavar, his face slightly blushed, cast a dark glance at him. "Be careful of what you say, Southron", he hissed, but then grinned as well. "I would be honoured, lady", he said.

"Very well, Master Annavar. Or should I say, my lord?" The maiden bowed her head slightly and laughed. Then, her face turned serious. She really wished they would leave soon. Rain can sometimes make a journey through the forest and the mountains harder.

"My role: I would also like to be paired up with somebody - but who?" She looked at each man in turn. "Anybody that would except me!" She blushed. I must say i hate this weather: She looked at the sky - It looked grey and dull - she hoped this rain would stop soon.

Annavar smiled on Rana and even blushed a bit. "I am most delighted. But don't call me Lord. I am just a plain man, or soldier, from a village near Pelargir. Maradir is the noble among us here, though he doesn't admit to it very often."
Maradir smiled at Annavar's remark, then turned his attention back to Christina. "I'd be willing to take your hand for the time being, though I am just a plain outlaw." Here he started laughing.
The rain started to fall heavier and they quickened their pace.

The road was damp and muddy. It made the trudging of their horses harder and slower. Although Rána was used to this kind of weather from her travellings in the North, she would still have welcomed the kinder climate of the South. She glanced around her. She was familiar with the general area around her but for once in her life, she felt a little lost. Everywhere it was dark and the rain was falling hard.

It was getting towards noon and time for a short break. Khorazîr got out the most delicious meals he had received from Alya as provisions and even though the weather did not improve, their moods lightened with the nourishment.
"I think we won't reach Lordel, Himohtar, and Torun before almost nightfall," Maradir said. "That means we're going to set camp with them and set out to the caves early the next morning. As to what exactly we're going to do when we meet the Southrons - I must say that I don't know yet. It might get a little rough but we have to try and get their trust as outlaws. I mean, they also know that strength often lies in numbers and they might also appreciate companions who do not look as strange to this land as they do. The most important part will be to keep up our disguises. The two ladies won't be ladies any longer. They'll just be Rana and Christina - fullstop."

After a long strenous journey in the cold rain, the companions reached a glade. North-west of it low hills streched out and to the east they could discern the lake.
"This is where we should find the others," Annavar said and stepped under the trees, birches for the most part.
The rain had become less and it seemed as if it was about to stop altogether soon. The clouds were beginning to dissipate and a few rays of the evening sun made their way down to the earth. All those who looked up could see a big bird circling above them. Maradir raised a hand as if to greet it.
At the same time three figures walked towards them. They seemed to have melted out of the trees right in front of them. The two tall ones, two Noldor Elves reached them first and bowed to the new arrivals. One of them, who somehow looked younger than the other - though that was hard to tell with Elves - even kissed the ladies on the hand. "Himohtar at your service." And he drew his shining sword which glinted in the rays of the evening sun.
Both Maradir and the other Elf smiled broadly.
"Don't you scare them away with your brilliance," the dwarf said who had reached the company now. "I am Torun, Master of Khibîl-Gathol. And this here silent Elf is Lordel."
The Elf in question bowed again and held out his arm as if to offer it to one of the ladies. But an instant later the bird they had seen circling in the sky landed on it. It was a buzzard.
"What interesting friends you have," Khorazîr whispered to Maradir.

"Indeed we are a very strange but special band of folks!" Christina said with a smile. The rain stopped and the clouds parted slowely to reveal the sun - it ws bright and all felt a new energy pass through them and their spirits lifted...

Rána smiled sweetly at Himohtar. "Charming," murmured the fair maiden. She suddenly remembered that she was supposed to be married to Annavar. Glancing at Annavar, her smile grew wider. The man was a little too quiet for her taste. Usually, Rána could talk for hours about Middle-Earth and the Great Sea. He didn't seem like much of a conversationalist. Turning to the newcomers, she asked. "So, how does our plan work now?"

"So, you have made a plan?" Himohtar said. "What is it? Am I to rush into the cave with my shining sword, kill all the scoundrels and rescue the damsel in distress? While you - uh - you know..."
Lordel only gave him a disapproving look while the rest of the company could not help but smile at the youth. For he was no other than that. A child by the measure of Elves.
"Well, Himohtar," Maradir sighed. "It's not exactly what we had in mind. We more thought of disguising as outlaws ourselves and infiltrate them, so to say. There are some among the Southrons who do not like their captain. We might get them to rebel against him and thus we might also be able to rescue the damsel. Sirhiril would probably slap you for that."
"I'm sorry," Himohtar conceded. "But I like the idea. Being a smashing, bashing scoundrel myself..."
"Uh, Himohtar," Libur said while pulling at his tunic. "I don't think anyone would fall for a Noldor bandit."
"He's nasty enough from time to time," Maradir muttered. Louder he added: "We thought that you and Lordel should pose as our prisoners."
It took a while till the words settled, then Himohtar exclaimed: "You must be joking - my Lord. Noone would fall for simple men having captured two Elves... right?" He threw a questioning glance at Lordel.
"I think the idea is brilliant," the other Elf said and smiled at Himohtar.
"B-but what about the ladies?" the young one stuttered. He obviously did not like the plan at all.
"The ladies", Khorazîr said, trying hard to hide his amusement, "are already in good hands. They are to play Maradir's and Annavar's mates."

"Their mates?" Himohtar asked and pointed at his two companions, the question "and what about me?" written all over his face. Khorazîr couldn't help grinning broadly when he saw his expression. He did not know much about Elves (who officially had been enemies of his people for many years), but to his knowledge they were noble and somewhat aloof folk, having strange and wondrous (and dangerous) powers. Silent and thoughtful Lordel fitted Khorazîr's image of a "proper" Elf quite well, but not this boyish hotshot. He rather reminded him of Imrazôr, his son, when he had been approaching manhood. But at this recollection his grin faded somewhat. To think of Imrazôr meant being reminded of his death as well. Khorazîr slightly shook himself to get rid of the image. He had other things on his mind now than to mourn for the boy.

"You seem not very happy about the arrangement, Master Elf", he said lightly to Himohtar.

Rána laughed heartily. "No, he certainly is not happy with the arrangement. But that is the only arrangement that would work." She was amused and intrigued by the elf. She had met a few elves in her travels but none were quite like Himohtar.

Himohtar was silent for a moment. It was clear that he did not approve of the plan. Nevertheless, he agreed. He knew they were right but he wished the plan worked more to his advantage.

"Perhaps we should invent and agree upon a nice tale of how we managed to capture the Elves", Khorazîr said, looking in the round. "I guess we can expect to be questioned about this once the outlaws have found us. Also we should give thought as to what we pretend to have in mind to do with them. I mean, it would appear rather odd if we just captured them and dragged them about with us. If they are of no apparent use for us everybody will say that we should have slain them right away."
"Ha, as if you'd succeed in doing so, Southron", Himohtar muttered. Khorazîr slightly cocked an eyebrow as he gave the Elf a swift, dark glance, but he did not reply to the remark, despite feeling the urge to do so.
"Any ideas?" he asked, addressing the others again.

Annavar and Libur where on their way to collect firewood while the others made themselves comfortable and built camp for the night. When Annavar and the dwarf returned, Lordel lit the fire with a movement of his hand. Maradir saw that Khorazîr was more than astonished at this strange sight. He remembered how shocked he was when he first encountered his friend's strange and often uncanny abilities.
"You are right, Master Khorazîr," Maradir said. "We need to make up a story about that. And maybe about other things as well. I mean, what if they ask us how I met my lady Christina. Or Annavar his Rana?" He smiled on his companion as he seemed to blush.

"Aye, we must consider that", Khorazîr said absentmindedly, his eyes still on Lordel and the fire, which now crackled merrily, illuminating the Elf's face with a warm glow as he knelt by it to built it up with more wood. It was plain to see that the Haradan had not quite overcome his surprise yet, and that he thought Lordel's powers uncanny indeed. His experiences in the War had made him deeply distrustful of anything smelling of magic, however faintly, and to have a wizard in the company was not at all to his liking. But at least he was on their side, and moreover seemed a decent fellow.

Khorazîr turned to Maradir again. "Your friend there knows more magic tricks than just this, I take it?"
"He does indeed," Maradir answered. "You always have to be prepared for a surprise in his company."
Lordel kept on smiling and looked into the fire as if he had detected something particularly interesting in it.
"Have the ladies maybe come up with a story?" Maradir asked while turning to Rana and Christina.

Khorazîr smiled slightly as he watched the two women sitting close to the fire, staring at the flames, both deep in thought. "Seems to be harder than expected", he said to Maradir.
