Long ago, when the world of middle earth was still very young, a great evil was born. For centuries it has remained undesturbed, but now it has awoken. Seers have fortold of it's coming. They have seen it traveling by night, killing by day, and growing stronger with every hour. This power shall have many followers who are just as evil as the power itself.
But another power shall be born. One with endless might. This power shall reside in the form of a child. Already the evil shadow grows over the land, and already the child has been born. An evil band of warriors has begun a quest to search for this child, to kill her. They stop in every village searching for the young girl with the elven mark of power and grace upon her forehead.

Far away in a small village inn sits a young elven woman who has begun to search for the child herself to take the child to safety. She carrys only a bow with a quiver of arrows, a knife, and a small box with elven runes upon it. Her name is Quin.
She has traveled in search of the child for a little over a week alone. Now she waits for someone to come who may be able to help her. The quest is a race against time itself. The evil grows ever stronger. Who will come that will help fight against it? Who now, in these dark times ahead, will help find the child and defeat the evil?

Hmmm...
this sounds an awful lot like a copy of the RP I started, but I'll join if you want. Like Adramir said, where/when does this quest begin, and what should we do to join it?

(I've never read your RP, but you can just start in the inn or I could get it going more.)

Quin sat silently in the corner of the room. In the tucked away darkness of this particular spot she could watch others come in without being desturbed. None of the people who passed over her seemed to notice that she was even in the room.

I wonder if anyone here is aware of the shadow. No one seems desturbed by the troubles that haunt this land. Will no one walk in who understands?, she thought.

Someone had to arrive who would be willing to help her on her quest. Someone must know of the great danger in this world.

We interrupt this program....please read the Rules and Guidelines for the Pony--the link is in my signature. This thread is standing precariously close to the "dont" section of those guidelines.

Thanks!

(what are we doing wrong??)
Adramir stepped quietly into the small inn, she had stopped here before, she walked up and sat at the bar. After ordering an ale she began to look around the small room, there were a few mysterious travelers, several drunk men and a tall elvish woman, given away by her ears, sitting in the corner of the room. She was cloaked, but did not look as if she was trying to be avoided. Her hood was off and a worried expression was spread across her small face. This was strange, Adramir thought, she had hardly ever seen a woman in this bar, much less a elf. She picked up her ale and headed twards the elvish woman. Adramir sat down at the table, setting down her ale after taking a sip, and greeted the woman.
"Greetings traveler," Adramir said with a small smile "what brings an elf such as yourself to these parts?" she questioned. She knew from expierence that some travelers prefered to keep to themselves and was going to leave after a silence from the woman. A look of shock flickered across the elfs face replaced with relief. The elf sounded weary as she introduced herself...

A small hobbit, watching the two strange folk from across the room, began to get very interested in the two. Especially the elf, and a she-elf at that; there had not been many even close to the description of her. The halfling was clad in brown pants, a light green shirt, and dark, elven green cloak, with a small wooden bow slung aross her back. She had always been a loner, and a wanderer, and thought this may be her chance to see some action in these dull parts. She thought the appearance of new folk rather strange also because of the thing she had felt, something evil, and it was growing with each passing day. She thought that maybe the coming of these two had something to do with this evil, but she wasn't sure; they did not seem the evil type.

Instead of jumping to conclusions, as was often her habit, she decided to look into this curious situation. The hobbit silently and swiftly made her way from the table where she sat to a stool over in the shadows beside them, and watched them more closely, listening intently for any talk between the two that would signal any happenings as the effect of this evil thing. She knew it was unwise for a hobbit to meddle in the affairs of elves and others as such, but she couldn't help her curiosity.

No one liners are allowed. We are trying to keep the Roleplaying up to certain standards, no matter what the storyline. One liners do not advance the story, enhance anyone's character and you do not give anything back to the other player's so that they can go forward. To help avoid One Liners, check out How to Avoid the Dreaded One-Liner

RP Topics should be Tolkien based, or based on the Tolkien Fandom. They should be thought out before posting. 'Spam' type RPs will be removed.

Refrain from bumping RP threads. This can become quite annoying. If someone wants to reply to the thread, they will find it themselves. Having it at the top of the Forum should not be important.

Do not use an RP thread/RP's Word Aside thread to solicit players for other RP's, or to advertise your RP. These will be removed.

I encourage you to write and to really put some thought and emotion behind your writing. There are LOTS of tales here in the Pony; we simply ask that you plan your story and make each post a relevant "chapter" of the tale.

Postby Kharya » Tue Jul 23, 2002 2:09 pm

A female human of average height walked up to the table where they were sitting after carefully watching from a distance. She had light brown hair that grew long over her shoulders and bright blue eyes like her mothers. She also wore men’s clothes; brown boots, dark green cloak, and brown pants. She was thin and looked like she could protect herself if need be.
“My name is Kharya. I was born and grew up in Gondor. I am 24 now. My father, Niendil, was a member of the guard. My sister, Elendis, was my best friend. My mother, Mara, was beautiful and the kindest person you could ever meet. She would take me out into the woods and teach me what plants would heal and which would kill. She taught me how to cook and make clothes. My father taught me right and wrong. He taught me diligence and how to fight with a sword and with my body, if necessary. My sister taught me the importance of paying attention and noticing even the smallest change in nature. But, as all young children, I took advantage of living the ideal life. I didn’t need the things everyone was teaching me now, so would I ever? I forgot some of it, and didn’t care. On my 16th birthday, there was an outburst and my dad got caught when orcs tried to raid our Gondor. Things went downhill from there. I was so upset. My mother had caught a fever and was very near death when I decided to relearn the ways I was taught when I was young. I got back into shape and spent days in the forest, alone. Once I came back to find my house wrecked, and my sister was dead inside. No one knows what evil had killed her. Barely 17 and I was all alone. I had no one left in this world or the next. I’m not sure if it was the emptiness I felt, or the need to avenge my sister’s sudden death, but I left and vowed to find what had killed her, and to kill it. I am very careful now, but when I see something so evil, I feel a rage pulsing through me. Rage like I can’t control and I forget all I know except that I want all evil gone” She looked at them, as if coming back from a trance. Then she looked at the elf maiden. "Will you accept my help?" she said.
The hobbit was now closer than ever to the group, only a few feet away, when this new person Kharya came up to them. She was human, no doubt by the ears, but had a similar fel to her presence as elves did. The halfling now was astonished at her sudden appearance and tale, with no explaination at all of why she had just come up to them, or any reason as to why or how she knew of their quest to find the evil, if their was any quest. She couldn't tell for sure, but she could feel it. But she thought it rather unwise for Kharya to just open up with herself in a public place such as this to strangers she had supposedly never seen nor met with before. The hobbit was more cautious. She walked up to them now, unnoticed, and stood behind them in the shadows, knowing that any one of them could turn at any moment and become aware of her, though she did not know what their reaction would be to her. They might assault her and force her out, or perhaps they would just brush her off and continue their conversation and introductions. She figured they were too busy right now adjusting to the presence of this new stranger Kharya to notice the hobbit, so she simply listened to see what this would bring. She was now quite interested in the travellers and their purposes here, which she may find out soon enough if she kept out of their sight and mind.

Kahran's frosty blue eyes watched with intrest the small company that was forming in a shadowed corner. Their whispers appeared urgent and far above the normally trivial chatter that was going on around them. She approached the group quietly wanting to know what was going on before she jumped in. She didnt mean to eavesdrop but would hate to approach them only to find that she was not welcome and be shunned. She heard the woman ask "Will you accept my help?" and figured it was ok to join in. She noticed the Hobbit hanging a bit outside of the group looking a bit nervous yet curious. She put her hand on her shoulder causing the halfling to jump startled. She smiled at the little one comfortingly and turned her head up to face the rest of the people in the group who had abruptly stopped talking to stare at the half-elf Kahran. It was easy to tell her heritage with her pointed elven ears and dark brown hair that hung straight to her waist which was drawn back halfway with two small braids. She spoke softly so that her words were not carried outside of the group "Greetings. Forgive me for interrupting but I couldnt help noticing that there is something wrong over here by your urgency. Let me hear of your troubles and if your intent be true than I will do anything in my power to help you."

Quin, who had sat silently with much excitement built up in her from all of this, now spoke.

I will accept any help that you have to offer, she said quickly. She was filled with so much relief that she didn't really know exactly what to say after that, and then it came to her like a wave. Do you know of the shadow that has fallen over our fair land? She spoke this with such graveness that the group around her stired slightly.

Adramir and Kharya glanced swiftly at the others that had joined the table, then sent their attention back toward Quin as she told her short tale,

As you have probably guessed, I am on a quest. This is no ordinary quest, it is one of the utmost importance. I have been commisioned to gather a band of people who, if they will, shall help me on my quest. I was told that this particular inn would be one where I would be likely to find some. This great evil that has settled itself over us is growing swiftly. Anyone else, who will, must help me find a young girl who bears the elven mark of power and grace upon her forehead. Will any of you help me? And, if so, do you know of any others who may help also. With this quest comes great risk. Again I ask of you, who will help me?

All of this she spoke with even more gravenes than her voice had held before. Now she looked around at the company that had gathered with a questioning look. She hoped that others would soon join her in her quest. She had but a day and a night before she had to be off again.

Kharya listened to Quin's words. they were strong and worried. This was a serious thing, very very serious.
After a short, awkward pause Kharya spoke."I still want to destroy evil, sorry if i was too open. I like to trust people, and that is one of my faults. I would like to join you on your quest. I know that i can help you."
Quin accepted her offer to help and they waited for the rest to say something, but Kharya knew they all would join.

"I will help you," the hobbit spoke up, for the first time alerting them of her whereabouts, other than Kahran, who had been keen enough to detect her. They all stared at her with great surprise; how could a hobbit help in any way that just any other traveller off the streets could? Why bother choosing her? She would tell them why.

"My name is Perry. I've journeyed many lands beyond here, and am very skilled in the arts of both swordfight and archery, though I am an archer at heart and have never really taken a liking to blades and such, and do not carry any with me, other than a small knife for survival purposes. I may be of little use to you that you can see, but I assure you; having me in your company will have its advantages."

At this the little hobbit's coal-black eyes gleamed, a deep, memorable shimmer of adventure awaited in her spirit. She now ventured to inquire of the others.

"I will not be as open to you all as Kharya was though; I have many of my own reasons for not being able to trust such strange travellers. Don't take the wrong point; I do believe I can gain very much trust in all of you, there is some faith in this group that I have not yet felt, some form of hope. You are lucky to even have gotten my name out of me - I can be quite stubborn sometimes. But please tell me - what exactly is your destination, and what do you plan to do to this evil force when you find it?"

Adramir was slightly confused at this mortal womans openness, but the name seemed so familiar, she searched her memory trying to place her. She was snapped back into the present when a small hobbit voice, coming from behind her, piped up and joined the quest. She turned around and smilied at the halfling, she had always had a soft spot for hobbits, she took to them more quickly than even elves. She turned back to the elf woman,

"What is this darkness that you speak of, i have heard nothing." Adramir questioned, first she would see what these people were getting into before she herself got involved.

"I have heard nothing either" said Kahran "However I have felt something and I can see the fear within you. Tell us more about this quest. I will accompany you, but with some caution." She looked around at the others pausing in turn to look at them, as if trying to see into their hearts and their intentions. "Many of us, myself included I admit, are keeping secrets which is fine. I just hope that someday we can come to trust one another and that one of these secrets couldbring about the ruin of all of us. I want to trust all of you and I hope that all of you are as pure of heart as you appear. I am only open about this because I want you to know that if you are true to the company than I shall protect you with my life. And if you are not..well all I can say is you better leave now." Some of the group looked surprised and even a little frightened. Kahran sighed. She hoped that saying that was unneccesay and that she would not have to prove her words someday. If she did, however she would fufill it or die trying.

Quin looked hard into Kahran's eyes. She could tell that her words were true. Then she turned to the rest of the group and spoke so softly this time that they all had to strain to hear her.

I do not know for certain where this quest may take us, but I am going to begin by journeying to Mirkwood. I have an old friend there who may be able to help us. The only way to defeat this great power of evil is through the female child I seek. She bares upon her forehead the elven mark of grace and power. We must take her to the safety of a secret place. I will not speak it's name until I am sure I can trust you. From this place the child shall be able to use her power to destroy the shadow. She is very great, but she does not know it yet. There is great danger involved in this line of work. A band of evil warriors, who call themselves the Harren, have already begun to search for this child. They are sent out by the man who this darkness flows through. I do not, unfortunately, know his name. The child will soon become aware of her powers. It has been said that she will be able to feel evil, and that she shall be able to hear one's thoughts. She is an elf. That is all I know in the matter for now. I am hoping that when we reach Mirkwood my friend shall be able to tell us more of the matter.

With that, she stopped. Quin stared around at the group wondering what they would say to this.

"Very well", Perry responded to her, "It is not unusual that you would not yet trust us, or most of us, and that is probably the wisest to do. This story somehow sounds familiar to me, yet I do not know from whence I have before heard it. This is a perilous quest, of course, but I am very much willing to help you find this child, and will her to destroy this evil, and the man of whom you speak. Will you have me in your company?"

Perry anxiously, yet patiently awaited her response, knowing that she would both want and need all the help she could get. But they would need to know where exactly they were next destined to, for Mirkwood was yet hundreds of miles away, and they would need to know what roads they would be travelling by.

ooc: hey exactly where are we in middle earth? That would be helpful in plotting our journey <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Kahran smiled at the mention of Mirkwood. Though she was half-elven and from Rivendell, she had many dear friends, the Wood elves that lived in Mirkwood. She enjoyed the mirth and the singing of the Wood elves and they liked to hear of her news from her travels. She wondered who Quin's old friend was that she spoke of, but let her keep her privacy. Quin must have lived or spent much time in mirkwood before, Kahran thought. She wondered why she had never heard of her before. She shrugged. Mirkwood was a large and dense wood. Even those that lived there had not ventured through all its reaches. Kahran spoke breaking a thoughtful silence "Then it is to Mirkwood we shall go. If you will have us, that is. My bow at your service. My daggers as well though I have never used them outside of training and in combat. I'm afriad I am usually a peaceful traveler of middle earth. Do not have fear though. My training has not been ill spent." She saw a few of the elves looking curiously at her daggers' sheaths. She smiled "Yes these blades are engraved with the mark of Enron. I am related, though distantly. Not quite as old as he, but not young even by elven standards. If Quin is pleased and accepts us all as our company I bid thee good evening. I must go to my quarters if I expect to wake in the morrow. I have had many sleepless nights recently." After talking softly for a few more moments with the group she left quietly to her room and for the first time in many nights, slept soundly.

Ahem...

wonders if the people that are writing in this thread have ignored all previous posts concerning the Prancing Pony.....

How about you guys bounce around the Pony for awhile and read some of the other role plays; or, even better, why don't you find the Roleplaying 101 and 102 threads? You need some planning for your adventure; it's got potential but it's sort of staggering around looking for a body, if you know what I mean <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I'm not going to lock the thread just yet; but, I AM asking you to really put some thought and character building into your posts.

(the prancing pony probably)(we should start an OOC thread)
As the others were talking Adramir studied the still young company. The grave elf woman seemed one to trust, though Adramir had never seen an elf so unhappy. The hobbit she liked instantly as she did with most halflings, such a nice break from the rough travelers she was used to. The elf woman that had joined them seemed more closed off and secritive than the others. The other mortal woman seemed strange, yet so familiar, she searched her mind compleately tuning out whoever was talking.

What was her name again, Kara, Kyra, what was it...Kharya that was it. Kharya, Kharya, she still couldn't place her. Adramir tuned back in to the conversation. Mirkwood, she had traveled through the forest on some of her travels, she had met many frendly folk there and was looking forward to going back. Then she remembered that she had not actually joined the company, well now she felt she knew enough to satisify her inqurining mind.

"I will join you in your quest friend, i would be happy to accompany you and the others that wish to go." Adramir said with a small smile, trying to comfort and lighten the mood of the grim beginings of the company.
The five, now four, sat at the table. They discussed among themselves what they planned to do and where they planned to go from Mirkwood. Kharya noticed someone studing her and realized she needed to stop creeping people out when she first meets them. 'Oh dear, there i go again' she thought, 'why is that woman looking at me?!?'

Quin looked around at the group that stood before her. This town of Bree was known for having people from all over come and stay in it. She was glad that she had found some people who were so willing to help her here. Soon her thoughts drifted elsewhere.

To those who will come, we must leave soon. If you aer truly willing to help me stop this darkness than we must leave soon. Others may end up following us from Mirkwood. I cannot say what we will learn there exactly, but I have the strangest feeling that we are not without hope. I will tell you moer once we are on the road to Mirkwood.

At this she looked up and around at the group. They were staring at her intently with, what seemed like, mixed feeling.

' I too offer my help,' spoke a voice out of the shadows. The speaker was a tall she-elf who no one had noticed until then. 'Forgive me for evesdropping. ' I am Daine, daughter of Sarelle and Thecosen. I come from Tarintine, a small elven village to the north of Imladris. I was sent by my people to seek the child with elven mark of power and grace. You seem to be seeking the same thing as I, if you accept my service I will join you.'

These last 3 posts are NOT what Elbren meant by posting better. I will also be watching this.
