Please post in the OOC thread first

The War of The Ring is past. The time of the elves is fading. Most of them have journeyed into the west and concern themselves naught with the troubles of this world. Middle Earth is nursing her wounds. Slowly, the quiet villages and great cities alike are rebuilt. Mingled with the tears shed for loss of homes and of people are the tears of joy, and of freedom. Those who lived in fear and in battle can now rejoice. Inns are as filled with merry people, singing great ballads of the valiant Nine Fingered Frodo and honoring the heroic acts of the other members of the fellowship.

Sadly, in the Prancing Pony sits one who can not rejoice. She sits alone in a depressed corner near a smoldering fire silently weeping for the joyous people around her, who will soon have to face peril again.

Arien knew that the shadow would fall again and soon. She wasn’t sure why she was chosen to be the keeper of the knowledge she possessed. Or was she chosen? Perhaps it was mere chance. If that was true they were surely doomed.

For the thousandth time she thought of the Sindar Elves that passed through her home on their way to the Grey Havens. They were so majestic. And wise. Why couldn’t they stay in Middle Earth a little longer? Why must they leave now?...but no. This belongs to the inhabitants of Middle earth and that does not include the departing elves. It was a test of sorts perhaps..to see if the peoples could fare without them. Though it had been their words that alerted her of the danger coming.

The words they had given her still stuck out clearly in her mind "Our age is past. Darkness shall consume the land once again. Know that it is coming. Different than before, but ultimately the same" they told her of the evil and how it would devour Middle Earth if she did not stop them. Why me? She thought for the thousandth time. Why me? "Find companions." they had said. "Be cautious!" and finally the most puzzling piece of advice they gave was "Remember that you can often see what lies ahead by looking behind." When she inquired they had simply responded "You will know. When it is time." She felt hopelessly lost. What was she even doing here? It was certainly a long and tiring ride from Rohan, and she wasn’t one to usually follow her whims in such a fashion.

She heard a regular at the inn talk excitedly to the other guests “Yes Sir. Sat in that very corner. Who would of thought that the King of Gondor would turn out to be that shady character Strider eh?” Arien was aware of many eyes upon her suddenly in her once quite corner. She didn’t care. She was to preoccupied..her mind busy with other thoughts. The Prancing Pony..that was where Frodo had acquired one his new companions...perhaps she would find some companions here as well.

The figure of a girl sat slumped across a table. Too much cheap wine did that to you, and she was another victim. As she called for another, one could see her eyes were turning bloodshot, and that she was growing increasingly drunk. "Another one!!" she called, and a man appeared with another glass, timidly asking "Excuse me miss, but do you have enough money to pay for all this drinks that you have drunk so far?" he said, gesturing at the mountain of glasses on the table. She raised her head, and snapped "Go away. I have enough money. Take this for now, and get me another glass." She flung a bunch of coins across the table, scattering the gold and silver across the table. The man gave her a funny look, and scuttled off.

"Fool! To think I cannot afford this." Her name was Alayna, and she was one of the most feared streetfighters around, but with her current state, with bloodshot eyes and seeming to be half dead, she hardly looked fit to fight with a kitten, or that was what a bunch of men nearby thought. A bunch of six of them appeared in front of her, each tapping his dirk on his palm. 'Let's step out for a momment, shall we?" One of them, the apparent leader, said. Without waiting for her answer, the rest of the ruffians dragged her out.

Once outside, one of them backhanded her once. That blow was enough to clear her head, and her eyes cleared in an instant. The always present fearlessness in her eyes returned, and her hand went to her boot to snatch out the knife that lay there. However, her fingers were met with someone's boot, and she winced as the man kicked her fingers. She pivoted on one foot, swinging the other in a wide, violently swift arc. Her victim moved his body to shield it from her most obvious target, but she altered her attack midway, and caught him on the kidney with her other foot. Once her knives appeared her hands, the rest of ruffians took off, running helter skelter. It appeared that they had changed their mind about robbing her.

She then made her way back to the Prancing Pony where she saw a strange character, one who seemed strangely lost in her own world and she was seating in the place where the famous 'Strider' once sat. She carefully made her way to the strange character, who eyed her suspiciously when she asked to sit down, but relented after a while, and grudgingly made way for Alayna to sit. "What brings you here, traveller? I do not recognize you, and you seem strange here. Allow me to share your sorrows, for I may be able to help. If you need to know who I am, I am Snake, for one's real name has a measure of power. You shall know me as Snake, but what shall I call you?"
"A name is but a word and mine is no secret. You may call me Arien. As for my sorrows, it is a long tale and not one to be freely told. I am searching for companions to ally themselves with me and against a new evil that will attepmt to bring ruin to Middle Earth."

Arien paused for a moment then asked to addressing Snake and Boromir"Let me see your eyes" They looked confused and a little wary. Arien asked again "Let me see your eyes. There is nothing I can do in here. Nothing goes on unnoticed in this place." Snake relented after some thought. Arien stared into both Boromir and Snake's eyes for a moment to see if they held the betraying mark of the Searians. She smiled softly in releif "Good. You are not one of them. I will tell my tale in full when we have found other allies."

She was a little concerned for Boromir, he was only a boy after all. She was also concerned because Eowyn's slaying of the witch king was widely known in Rohan and a woman she respected greatly. She did not wish to be held responsible for his death. Then again nearly all would perish if she did not combat the growing evil.

*A young Hobbit leaps onto a table and joins in on one of the songs about Frodo and the fellowship. She had drank her share of ale, and stumbled about a bit, but still sang merrily with the men on the table.
The man next to her swung his arm a bit to enthusiasticly, and she was flung of the table onto the ground near the dark stanger. The man takes no notice of her fall, and she grabs the stranger's cloak and slowly drags herself up.*
"Hallo there, don't mind me. Say-you're not from around these parts, are you? Well that makes two of us! The names Ezzy, or Esmerelda Gamgee's my right name, but I don't say it much...who might you be?"
*The bewildered stranger is a bit shocked by this young Hobbit who suddenly appeared from nowhere.*
"I...I am called Arien...."
"Arien, now there's a nice name."the Hobbit interrupted."Why aren't you all merry and happy, like the rest of us folk? You'd think you were depressed or somethin'! Come on! Join us, have a pint or so!"
*"I am not acting like a fool because I'm not drunk." Arien thought to herself. Ezzy continued talking a mile a minute, and introduced herself to the others, who also appeared bewildered. Arien actually thought she was funny, in an odd sort of way.*
"So where are you headed to around here? You can't just stay here on a Holiday. That's crazy talk."

ooc: Boromir you have written what is called on torc a 'one liner'. I appreciate your intrest in the thread, but i strongly reccomend you visit the guidelines for the pony thread. I dont have the links on me but there are many helpful threads on how to roleplay here at Torc. Some are rather lenthy but worth the read. Plus the mods get after us for commitng one liners <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

(Let's get back to the thread, shall we?)

Alayna sighed. This lady was paranoid. Did she really think that Alayna was one of the servants of Sauron? Did Alayna look like that sort? She appeared to be someone who did not like people to mess with her, not a servant of the dark lord! She grinned cockily and tossed her head, before observing the surroundings. It was just a bunch of drunk folks canterwauling, and the rowdy bar songs were enough to make her cringe, especially the awful way of which the various voices clashed.

She looked around the table yet again, and noticed the curious guy. He seemed funny, somehow, and the weapons he carried did not seem to match his small stature. In addition to him, there was a hobbit girl, probably from the Shire, the most common place of potential hobbit adventurers. This hobbit girl was also armed with a sword that seemed too big for her, and it gave Alayna the impression that the hobbit girl had run away. The boy seemed strangely similar in looks to one of the members of the fellowship, probably either Aragorn or Boromir, for she never bothered to study the features of them much, even though their faces were imprinted all over the place.

She slipped her hands into a pair of dark gloves, before she continued with her drink. Her eyes seemed calculative as she measured all the people up and down, trying to see if they could be trusted. even though her sense were street-sharpened, and that spending all her early life in the street gave her a sixth-sense that told her if people could be trusted. Yet there were ways, of course, for people to cheat a street kid like her into doing their dirty business, but these people didn't seem like the kind. "All right. Count me in. I lied earlier, for my name was never Snake. It was just a name that I used to give my employers to give them a name to address me by. My name is Alayna, but there is no last name."
Count you in on what?
*The Hobbit's eyes opened wide with curiosity.*
Are you going on a quest?
Can I join you? I know I do not look like much now-but I can use a sword just as well as the next guy. I also have great aim with a bow.
I won't lead you into any harm, or at least I won't try. I'm loyal!
I'm a Gamgee-loyalty Runs in my blood. I'm actually the cousin of Samwise Gamgee. But thats straying off the topic.
May I join your quest? I swear on my dead father's sword that I will be a true companion.

"Very well..Alayna, Boromir, Ezzy. There may be others, but I will tell you my story in full now. My task is to identify and hunt down former minions of the dark lord Sauron known as the Searians. None of you are obligated to aid me in this task. They desire immortality and the only way they can be known is by a silver amulet the carry with a black stone set in it and their eyes. A Searian's eye resembles most the sight of a dying fire, black but flecked in flame. They use these stones to suck the life force out of other mortals in middle earth. Sauron gaeve them this power long before the ring wars, but at a price. Every time they used the stone they would be indebted to Sauron and were forced to serve him. He would use them to lead battles often or go after certain people. These small demands grewwith each mortal they took. As a result they went into hiding and only used the amulets as little as they could and only enough to keep themselves alive. With each mortal they took (Their bodies would turn to stone) they added a few years to their life. If they suffered from a normally fatal injury it would detract yeard frmo them. One day though after they killed enough their amulets would turn white and they would be immortal for all time. Even more powerful than the elves, they would live on to the ends of time invincible. Now that Sauron is destroyed they can freely go about their task. The only way we can defeat them is to destroy the seven amulets that they wear. Their lives are bound to it and without them they shall perish. Tell me now, will you aid me in my quest? For it will take thousands to give them each immortality and even then they would have the power to rule over all middle earth."

I proclaim that I will protect you and the rest of this Fellowship.

* Goes towards the table in the corner, as the same table Strider watched Frodo years ago*.*And sits down at the wooden beat downed chair*,then sharpens his sword on the dark weathered table, And awaits Arien's command to attack the Searians*

Seanera had entered the merry inn with mixed feelings. She knew that she should be happy, Sauron was destroyed and Aragorn had been made King. Still she felt the saddness of her people weigh down upon her. Her grandfather and uncle had already sailed from Middle Earth, as well as her great grandparents Celeborn and Galadriel. She was the only one left on her side beside Arwen, and she was with her King now. Living as happily as one who had given up the immortality of her people could live. The other elves were sailing as well and there were none left in Imladris for her to protect any longer. Her healing skills were not needed where there were non to heal. She sat down at a small table alone slightly off to the side of the fabled "table" where 'Strider' had once sat. She smiled to herself, she had known Strider, and she had known Aragorn. They were two different people living inside one body, although she doubted whether any other would truely understand that.

The barmaid came over to her with a cheerfull smile on her plump face, cheeks flushed with the heat of the room. So many bodies were crammed inside the tiny inn, all joyously celebrating, and making up thier own tunes, telling passerby's the tales of the city and of their ranger that was now King. Seanera simply ordered water, for she was not one to drink unless the occasion seriously called for it. And to her it did not. Perhaps when her first cousin was born, or she herself married, but she could not convince herself to buy anything stronger then a pure glass of water. The barmaid looked at her oddly for a moment but the smile returned quickly and she bustled off for it.

Seanera pulled out the piece of parchement that had come several months ago with a rider from Gondor. She pulled it out now and reread it knowing it by heart....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My dearest Lady Seanera, formalities seem so comical between kin, do they not niece? I know of your troubles, for my heart pains me deeply as well, but I wish you not to live the rest of your time of Middle Earth in grief. Estel and I would be honored if you would accept our invitation to live with us in Minas Tirith. I know your father, my brother, would want you to be happy and with family. Please accept, we await your answer, either by the returning messanger or your own hand.
All my love,
Arwen.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seanera folded the letter again and raised her fair gray eyes to the table where much of the tale telling centered around. She was slightly surprised to see the large group of people surrounding it now. Some men, a hobbit, prehaps several of elvish blood even. She decided she must know what the commotion was about. So standing up to her full height she walked with the grace of her people over to the table and with said in a clear voice wich sounded like fair bells chimming asked the table.."What is being discussed that seems to be so important to you all?"

Ah...to finally do something that can make a difference in the world!
The young Hobbit put her hands behind her head and leaned backward, expecting to fall into the back of the chair, but falling onto the ground instead. A tall, beautiful Elf stooped and helped her up of the ground.*
Ay....we be going on a quest to smash some black rocks and kill some bad guys who want to rule Middle eart. Arien said it better than I, but I have forgotten all of her fancy words.
*Ezzy knew that she could trust the Elf...she had a certain aura about her, a great sadness. She did not blame her...if all the Hobbits were leaving...then she would be filled with sorrow, and no doubt.

A raven haired lady cloaked in grey flirted with a young man at the bar. He bought them round after round of drinks, clearly drunk toasting to the health of each person that passed by. After many more rounds she took his hand and gently murmered something in his ear. He led the way out of the bar and to the quarters that the man was staying in. His bar friends laughed making cruse jokes to one another about the mysterious lady that had actually enjoyed spending time with a drunk.

Moments later the same lady swept through the room again this time alone. Her red flecked eyes flashed in Arien's direction as she left. Arien froze. A searian..one that had clearly just used her power on another. "Come" She muttered to the company "We must follow her. Do not let yourselves be seen!"

*Ezzy jumped up and followed Arien and the others down a long corridor. The blade of her sword gleamed like cat's eyes. She looked around, careful not to make a sound.*
Are...are we going to kill her?
*Her bones shook uncontrollably. She had never before hurt anyone with her sword...much less kill. Nor had she ever been in such danger.
Her Poppy taught her the art of the sword to sharpen her senses, never thinking she would need it for defense. The Shire was not at all dangerous, and if she had not ran away...she would have no need to use it. But she longed for adventure and exitement, and a broad smile slowly grew on her face.*
"Yes,if we can, young Hobbit, now stay close, and say no more, or we may be caught. And don't fight until I say, or we might reveal ourselves too soon."said Ariel.
*Ezzy followed close behind Ariel, and trusted her to be her leader. She grasped tighter onto her sword, and felt much bigger han she actually was.*
Let's hunt some Searians!

Eären got down from her sturdy white horse, Namarin, and tied it aside under a large oak tree. She smiled and patted him lightly on his head before walking into The Prancing Pony. She was so relieved that she has returned from accomplishing her task. Yet she could still recall the peril she faced when she was on the East-West Road.
She was assaulted by a gang of riders in black while she was riding to Bree.

Everything was calm and peace that night. The Sickle shone as brightly as often and the nightwind soothes her weariness after a long ride from Rivendell. Suddenly she sense danger ahead and halted immediately. She heard deep voices and horse hooves in front of the road. She tried to turn back but it was too late, the voices rose high as six dark riders swiftly formed circles closing her in until she can hardly breathe. The foulest of the six took out a silver amulet with its right hand while the other hand holding a dagger ready to assail. The rest of the riders backed away. It was ready to strike when she took this chance to pull her sword out and swung it hard to smack the amulet off his grasp. Without hesitation, she darted off from the gang and headed straight to her destination. The six riders tried to pursue her but their horses were nothing compared to Namarin’s speed. Soon, she succeeded in escaping their hunt and after a few miles of ride; she arrived in the vicinity of Bree.

*Ezzy was waiting for Ariens call, when she heard quiet but rough voices far away.*
"Guys...did you hear those voices?"*she whispered.*
"Yes...the Searian...follow me!"
*They followed Arien towards the gates of Bree, away from the locals. The quiet voice grew louder in the dark, and the sound of horses drew near. There was a hole in the fence, and Ezzy cautiously peered through. She saw another Elf(?), but this one was fighting. One single figure, dressed in grey followed closely behind her. It held out a silver and black amulet and a knife, preparing to take her life. Ezzy couldn't watch. She heard a loud *clank* and a scream, and she thought the poor Elf was lost. She looked sadly throuhgh the hole...to find the Elf had escaped! The Searian looked everywhere for the amulet, but it was lost to them. Ezzy looked down...only to find the Amulet within an arms reach! She let out a sigh and slowly put her arm through the hole, and just as she touched the chain with her fingertips, the Searien saw her. Ezzy quickly grabbed the amulet and and pushed Arien and Boromir out far from the hole, for just then, the wall colapsed and the grey rider ran to them with its great sword drawn.*
"Now!" *cried Arien.*

Alone in near a dark corner of the common room sat a woman cloaked in black, hooded, quietly sipping the sweet mead from her mug. Behind her sat a woman, also alone, crying in the booth. Adramir started over towards the booth, but quickly retreated back to her seat when a companion joined the woman. Adramir listened to their conversation, she did not have elven senses, but could tune out noise and listen to what was important. This companion identified himself, BoromirII, prince to her home. But of what task was he speaking?, she continued to listen as another woman's voice joined the conversation. The first woman spoke of evil, another voice joined in, and talk of a quest. After a quick qreeting to the last voice Adramir finally heard what she was seeking, the woman told of great evil with the potential of horribile things. The rest of their conversation seemed but a blur, for Adramir was to busy with her own thoughts to listen any longer. But when the entire company rushed past her she snapped back to reality. She decided to follow them, she meant to give her service earlier but was distracted. She followed at a distance, not wanting to reveal herself quite yet...

*Rushs towards Aerian*
Aerian I have followed you for not very long, but I am a man of honor it's been in my blood and I'm not about to give up. Mithdril and the gifts from Elves Dwarves and my Mother and Father will cut through the enemy and bring them pride. But thats not the only reason, I'm dedicated to serve the ones in their quests. This night I will defeat one of the Searians tonight.

*The Searian with the lost amulet charged after Ezzy. He raised his sword high over his head and sent it flying down only to meet her own sword. The Emeralds flashed a brighter green then they ever had as Ezzy fought with incredible skill and strenghth. She was so concentrated on killing the Searian that she didn't notice the Amulet slip out of of her pocket and fall onto the ground. The Searian heard it fall with a clang and dropped so suddenly that Ezzy didn't see him grab the Amulet off the ground. The Searian now had more strenghth and speed than ever before. They fought untill Ezzy grew weary and he finally knocked the sword from her hand. He raised his sword up one more time to brbring it down and make a fatal blow, but suddenly fell down before Ezzy with a knife in his back. A stranger in black grabbed the knife back out and put it under her cloak.
"Thank you" was all that Ezzy managed to say. The cloaked stranger walked over to Boromir and turned him over to see that he was still alive. Boromir opened his eyes and stood up.
"Good,"Ezzy thought..."he must be wearing Mithril...smart boy."
With that, she stood up to fight the rest of the Searians. Behind her, lay the body of the Searien. As everyone fought...a strange silver fluid oozed from the body. It seemed to take the form of a shadow of a dragon. Inside of the ooze lay a single black stone and a silver chain. It slowly moved away from the fight and into the darkest shadows to claim another innocent's life and body. *
Alayna tensed, a blade in each hand. She hated this, but what were her choices? Her normal blade felt reassuring, morever, she had managed to acquire an enchanted blade by accident. She had only seen what it could do once, but that once was enough to imprint itself so deeply on her memory that she wished, yet dreaded to use it. She picked up that blade with one hand, while holding the other lightly, paused in a fighter's crouch. When the first one came towards her, she swiftly sidestepped him, before using the enchanted blade to cut the amulet from his neck, before plunging her normal dagger into his heart. When the second one came towards her, this one a woman dressed all in fine clothes, Alayna was ready. Her blade flashed, and her amulet fell to the floor. She shrieked then attacked Alayna, flailing her arm, trying to scratch her. Alayna kicked her in the stomach, then delivered a shattering blow to her windpipe. She twitched for a few moments, then lay still, never to get up again. She breathed hard, for she was tired. She was not sure of she could take another one, for fighting with them was taxing. They were superhumanly fast, and to slice off their amulets was difficult. Another one was heading for her, and she was tired. She knew blades themselves would not hurt them, not with their amulets on. She groaned and waited for them to attack, which they did. She sidestepped them with the grace of a streetfighter, before slicing off their amulets, ignoring the pain they inflicted on her. Her back was full of scratches, and a gash ran down her arm. As far as she was concerned all these people was her enemies, and she would fight to the death.

An elf walked through the barrows silently and quickly on his way to bree.He thought back to when he had left Mirkwood on a quest. He had sensed evil in the world. He didnt know what, but whatever it was it was growing fast. He was thinking so much he almost didnt hear the rustling in th leaves. He turned around quickly just in time to see shadow dissapear he turned and walked faster. Than something-or someone had come out. It snarled at him with hunger in its eyes.
"So there is still evil in the world." he said. Then his sword magicly flew out of its sheath and hovered above his head.
He laughed and said "do you not know who I am? I am Galinar, son of legolas, and prince of the elves!"

The thing lay in a pool of blood infront of galinar. "fool! I am a searen! for each searen killed, 2 more take there place! There was origonally two of us, but they got killed which made four of us! now there is five! Maybe more! We will multiply and grow a power so strong we will destroy you all and make a world of darkness and suffering!" it said. It then lay down and died. Galinar ran to bree, to the prancing pony only to find three dead searens.

*Lurking on the shadows, Ezzy watched a mysterious Elf run through the gates to the Prancing pony. She much desired to go with him...she was sure she was not strong enough to continue on this quest. She wanted to be back home, this little stunt of hers had already gone too far! But she had sworn her loyalty...and she was going to do whatever she could...even if it meant never returning to the life she had once loved."
"What should we do now? I...I...I'm ready to move on...and I don't see anymore Searians." she asked Arien and Boromir, shaking a little in the rain.
"We will continue on our quest, far away from this land." Arien whispered to her.
"Something's wrong...more danger is growing...be quick!"
They ran off past the gates of Bree, and Ezzy looked back once more at them as they closed behind her. With a warning from Boromir, they set off in the pouring rain.*

Galinar glanced around quickly until he saw a young boy, 13 probably, A hobbit who looked as if she had been in a fight and was pretty tired
and a few half elves-he didn't care, all he was thinking about were
the searens. He had thought he had heard the hobbit say something about them. He had come down to one decision, he walked up to them.
