Dave_LF,
Aragorn does receive Anduril, while encamped with the Gondor bound Rohan, before all the "big fighting". The reforging is presently still the opening scene of ROTK.

A number of different approaches for depicting Sauron more directly than how he features in the book have been explored. What I thought was the most striking and effective was quite different from all the speculation here that is largely focused on the notion of an Aragorn/Sauron mano-a-mano.
Hm... I wonder what PJ will end up going with?...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

So, Jersey, what you're saying is, it's still up in the air as to whether I can come back to life?

Well, then, will you please tell PJ to make it reasonable (and effective -- although I don't doubt that part of it), because I much prefer being alive. It's the chocolate, you see. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Chocolate when you're dead tastes rather like mud.

Or maybe that was Raddy's ashes getting mixed in. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

From an old post of mine:

OK, this doesn't really belong in this thread, but i'm gonna make an eductated guess as to how TTT will start...

Black screen, New Line Logo, Wingnut Pictures etc, then LOTR's title, followed by a prolouge/Voice Over done by Galadriel - same or similar to that of the TTT preview and trailer... Then we have Orthanc, with the TTT title imposed over the top. Cut to Saruman gloating etc. Awaiting the return of his Uruk Hai, maybe knows of Gandalfs death, probably not, maybe meet Wormtounge for the first time... Then cut to the Uruk Hai and M&P. Pippin drops his brooch and then cut to Three Hunters etc etc etc...

We shall see come 18/12/02, or if Nilson proves otherwise or someone sees an early preview

OK, so I got it half right <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Jersey, I swooooooooon for you. You've cleared up something that's been bothering me for months. Perhaps I can get a good night's sleep now. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Aragorn does receive Anduril, while encamped with the Gondor bound Rohan, before all the "big fighting". The reforging is presently still the opening scene of ROTK.

???? In flashback? Or does TTT leave Aragorn earlier than I'd been lead to believe (entering the POTD)?
It will be more concrete than that!!

My source still says and has always said that Aragorn will receive Narsil/Anduril in TTT, before entering the PotD.

The issue of Saruman on the spiked wheel - is this necessarily in Isengard? When Frodo looks into the Mirror of Galadriel, there is a brief moment when you see hobbits being herded in a destroyed Shire towards a building, which has a spiked wheel, and may be the Old Mill. Could this be a scene from the end of the story and this spiked wheel actually be in the Shire not in Isengard?
Excellent questions. The spiked wheel picture may not be what it seems. Early critisisms of it, and the joking attitude towards the possibility of a smoke screen image being put together by higher-ups always humours me. Mr. Grindlay would "know" a little more, however.

I strongly suspect that RSWD is a joke that PJ played on everyone who was trying to spy on the production.

As Isengard is depicted in FOTR, there are some wheels on the property, but I don't recall seeing any within falling distance of Orthanc.

Spoiler check:

Perhaps it will be of interest to note that the Huorns have been cut from the film, mostly because there was a fear that "living trees" would be too easily confused for the Ents anyhow -- there was also nightmaric visions of Orcs running into the forst of Huorns, the trees shaking violently, and a gigantic BURP as a sing Uruk helmet flew out of the forest

In the TTT EE they went with Huorns, (called them "trees", but definitely not Ents). Ents went to Isengard, trees/Huorns went to Helm's Deep. The trees shook violently, but they did not burp.
