The dwarf with no name.

Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

((This si about a dwarf with no name. He has no identity and therefore knows nothing about himself his history or how he came to be where he is, which is The lonely Mountain. He is by himself at the moment. Al he knows is a dwarf and all the battle skills that go with it. he is powerful and intelligent, but he has no name.))

Somehting rasied its head from the ruble and ash that now littered the Mountain's side. Bodies were strune about in the detritus of battle. Some of them were still a live and moaning, very close to death.
All the ones that were stil alive were Orcs adn Goblins. None of the warves would have let themselves live with the injuries and difigurement that they had suffered, even if they had lived. They had taken their own lives, not to be taken or a weakness to the army. They were valiant and proud.

A stout figure, after looking around and seemingly being satifised, rasied itself entirely. Broad shoulders and a thick neck supported a head that was a net of scars and a beard that was black in colour but was now dripping a deep maroon with the blood of its owner's foes. The face was terrible to look upon, but was not evil. There was a hidden power in the face that when it was needed, yoou felt as if it could be let loose as the first rivers that flowed in Middle-earth.

It bent down and picked up something up. It was an axe, huge and terrifying, in the aftermath of battle. The dwarf held it one hand adn picked up something from a dwarf that was lieing next to his boot, dead by his own hand.

The figure rasied its heasd again, but this time to the heavens and blow a long low, penetrating note on the horn. The horn was made from the Balrog of Moria. The very same Balrog that fought with Gandalf.

The Balrog's remains had been found thousands of years later in the fifth age of Middle-Earth. Its horns had been taken and prized as a Dwarf trophy, beleived to be the killing of the ancient dwarfs that they knew had once lived in Moria. But the true history of the horn was known to no one as the story of the rings and the Fellowship and the Dark Lord had been lost in legend. The sixth age of Middle-Earth was now begun.

Te dwarves had retunred to Moria to find it empty and none of the enemies they had expected. But the creature that lived in the Lake was now the Balrog of the Sixth age. Although it could not come from the lake, any attempt to re-open the Lower Gate was hopeless and death to any that tried.

There had been a Dark Lord once, but he was destroyed, but his Orcs had survived and had hidden in the hills away from the watchful eyes of Rohan, Gondor and the rest. They had fered the Elves and that is why they had not ventured from the tunnels and passges that Gollum had once lived in, before. They can feel the presences of Elves all over the Earth. But now the Last Elf had left the shores of Middle-Earth, carried across the sea in a boot, to the far West. The orcs had multiplyed and they were again making battle on Middle-Earth.

((The dwarf shall be known as Dwarf. It is easiest and avoids confusion.<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>))

The Dwarf sat, mnay hours later by a camp fire. He was alone and lonely. (Two diferent things)He was the only survivor of the battle out of thopusands of orcs, goblins and dwarves. He was the only one left and he felt it. He wanted to go home, but where was home. He had spent his liffe wondering around mountains, never living anywhere. He felt like he was the only dwarf left in the world. He had had friends in the battle, well not friends, but people he had met for a few days before the battle of the Lon ely Mountain had taken place. He never stayed anywhere long enough to make friends with anyone.

The thing that had haunted him all his life was why he had never fitted in? Why could he never settle and make friends? Why no one ever recognised him or the fact there was no one to remeber him? He knew that if he had died in the battle no one would have been there to remeber him and no one to sing of his victorys over the Orcs.

All these questions he somehow knew he would never fully understand the answers to. But he knew he would never die to the hand of an Orc. How could somehting like that kill him./ He was invinsible and it was this belief in his own skill and power that had pulled him through the tough, well tougher, times of his long life to date. He was stubborn and resolute. He wanted the answers.

A tall cloaked figure moved silently through the woods. It was the dead of night and nothing stirred but the quiet rustle of the leaves of the trees in the slight breeze.

The figure was wearing a huge black cloak which covered it to the ground, which was covered in rich, cushiony(sp?<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0>) leaves that had fallen from the great trees which loomed over the person. The small forest would of been erie to most as the nocturnal creatures of the place were strange and unknown.
Large, bulbous eyes shone as animals and birds peeped out from behind knarled tree trunks and down from the huge arms of the trees covered in leaves. They embraced each other over the rough path where the person was walking.
Suddenly the figure slowed down and then stopped completely,it turned then walked a little off of the path and started to collect a few twigs and small branches. After about five minutes there was a small fire crackling and the figure had pulled its hood back revealing a pale, female face that had a shimmer in it.Her delicate features were illuminated by the little fire as she hunched over it.
She was all by herself in a place that she didnt reciognise but she kept her wits about her and got out some dried meat and chewed on it as she thought about what she had heard. The great war between the dwarves, orcs and goblins had all slaughtered each other. Her black and glowing violet eyes were deep with sadness - she had had many close dwarven friends...

((ooc: Ruccus, I don't think you're supposed to bump RP's... actually, I'm not supposed to be posting ooc's either... o crap o crap o crap sorry...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0>))

A dark cloaked figure stood atop the hill on the mountain side, looking down at all the death and residue of battle scattered all along the valley. This was actually the first battle she had seen of orcs assaulting dwarves only, and so many. She was satisfied with it, though - the minions had taken care of them all, it did not matter whether or not the orcs and goblins were all dead as well, as long as the work was done.

Time had seemed to fly by since the Fourth Age, and it was a bit hard for her to believe that it was now already the Sixth Age. How old would this make her now, then? Oh, she had lost count over the thousands, it did not seem to really matter at the time. Now she was actually a bit curious about it.

She had existed since the dawn of the First Age, created by her Master, even before the One Ring. Mordor had tried to rise again after the fall of Sauron once or twice, a new power awakening each time, but now they were all dead and gone, just like these pathetic orcs. Khartazul was her own master now, and considered to be the most powerful existing force in Mordor, though she preferred now to travel through the world, and create whatever havoc she may take delight in.

She left no living victims of any of her assaults, not if she could help it. It looked as if this battle would be no different. Suddenly the wraith's eye caught something. A figure, moving in the distance, a dwarf, by the look of it. One had escaped! But not for long. He was only about a mile off now in the distance, and she would catch up with him easily, especially now that the dwarf was probably wounded and tired from the skirmish. He would not live long under her eye...

The wraith dropped down from ledge to ledge, her black leather boots catching her light weight as she leapt swiftly along the mountain side. She looked up again. The sun was slowly dropping over the horizon. Good, she liked the night. She saw much better in the dark anyway. But she could also see now that there was a light off in the distance, where the dwarf was. It was around a wood, and a fire was burning. All the easier it would make it for her to track him.

She jumped down to the last ledge and brushed the dust from her cloak and garments. She adjusted her silver belt around her black leather pants and pulled her hood down, revealing her wavy brown hair and pale white face, and crimson red eyes. She took up her knife in her hand, and made off into the woods toward the light of the dwarf's fire.

Elvish, that's true. Ruucus, please do try to refraim from bumping a thread. If you don't get responses to your storyline it may be best to wait a bit and try again in a few weeks with a new line or angle.

She was a small thing, looking to be no more than 12 years old, and small for even that. HEr brown hair fell in front of her eyes, and the sudden movment caused her to grab at her stomach. She was starving. After travelling in a caravan, searching for shelter with her parents and extended family, they had paused to watch the battle at hand, but she had become separated. Now she was alone, save one creature. It stood beside her now, huge and ominous, a beast with black fur and red eyes like those of a snake, but uworldly at the same time. Its boxy head was set on a powerful neck and complemented by its sleek body. It had a long tail with a sort of hook on the end. It stood squarely on its four legs, and the razor sharp claws of the front feet dug nervously into the ground. The retractable claws on the backs of its hind legs were soaked with blood, from what one was not inclined to ask. But as the child whimpered, it ggrowled softly in its throat and butted her with its head.
"Minime, Nekura. Esurio," the girl whispered.
The girl whimpered and clutched her stomach again and the world swayed around her. The creature crouched down, and the girl grabbed hold of its fur and managed to pull herself up onto its back. The thing stood and, turning, padded softly out of the trees and into the circle of firelight.

The dwarf was on his feet in a second, axes drawn and ready to fight. He took in the creature and then he relaxed slightly but did not remove his weapons from view. He was unsure of wht the creature was but was willing to believ that it was a friend, or at leats not an enemy. The creature looked hideous and black, but a dull black, not shiny like the creatueres of MOrdor. Its back paws were covered in what he recgonised as Orcs blood, dark and thick.

The thing whimpered at him and then he say it nod encouraging towrads the trees, just to his left asnd outside the light of the fire.

He got the message and edged slowly towards the perimetre of the circle of light. He reached it still faceing the creature. It would be stupid to turn your back on something like this, he thought to him self.It is almopst like a Rock Rehtnap that we get in the mountains, but what is it doing here?

He sniffed the air and caught the smell of something small, apart from the visible stench of the creature and his own sweat and orc blood that had dried and crusted all over him. It was girl he knew that, but of what race he could not tell.

((Just had a good idea, please see the OOC thread. (OOC: *~_o Elves...*twitchshudder*)

She glanced up just slightly, and before her stood a dwarf, the likes of which she had never seen. She had been taught to be wary of other creatures, and that they did not always understand completely, but she had an unnatural fear fo them, and of them.

"Nekura..." she whispered, gripping the creature's fur more tightly. Why had she brought her here? Why hadn't her parents found her yet?

Nekura growled gentley, the sound reverbarating through her small body, and it shifted its back just enough that she slid off and landed on her bottom with a thump. She coughed as the dry earth threw up a cloud of sand about her, and as it subsided, the dwarf drew nearer to her. She gasped and jumped to her feet, but her hunger and weakness hit her like an explosion, and she swayed on her feet before finally catching herself, willing the world to stop spinning crazily about.

"Quid..qui...?" she began, but realized the dwarf would no more understand that than he would Nekura. Rubbing her temples, she started again. "Where am I?" she asked. "Who are you?"

But from the darkness somewhere there came a shrieking howl like nothing she had ever heard before. A sick feeling shook her to the core, and she sank to her knees, her eyes wide, staring at the ground before her, but not seeing it. Sensing it. A wraith.

The wraith let out a long, shrill call, piercing the night. She could see the fire burning brightly in the dark now, the dwarf clearly visible in the dim light.

The wraith slipped swiftly and silently through the bushes, only a few yards away from the makeshift camp. She began to climb in the shadow of a tree, the dark leaves concealing the black cloaked figure perfectly. She crawled up through one of the branches, out of view of the dwarf.

Only this time she noticed something different - there was another with him. Two others in fact: a yong girl, and what appeared to be a large, bear-like creature, almost.. She couldn't quite make it out, she'd never seen the likes of it before. Which actually rather frightened her; she'd existed since the First Age, and gotten to know every single creature, no matter how rare, in Middle Earth. Or so she thought.

Now she did not know how to approach this group. She decided she's better wait to see these persons' plights, and figure out how to attack, and when; this new creature looked dangerous. It should not be too long now before she launched her attack, the wraith drew out her long, black leather whip, a small silver blade attached at the end, and waited for the best chance to take action.

As she knelt on the ground, Nekura cam e closer and nuzzled her head with her snout, and she put a hand on her friend's nose. Suddnely, Nekura lifted her head, pulling her to her feet, and she held tightly to Nekura's neck to keep herself upright.

"H...hello..." she said quietly to the dwarf. They looked at each other, sizing one another up, and she looked toward the woods. "There's something out there," she began, cautious not to say exactly what it was, but merely hint at it.

Her stomach rumbled angrily, and she laughed lightly. "I'm a bit hungry..." she began.

"I doubt it has food," Nekura growled, unwilling to trust the dwarf. She was unwilling to trust anyone while Echo was in that state. She was so weak...

She rolled her eyes and patted Nekura's neck. "Then maybe I'll go get something to cook up, would that be good?" she said, haf to Nekura, and half to the dwarf. The dwarf grunted in reply, and she dared let herself think she ad seen him smile. But as she turned to walk into the woods again, Nekura leapt in front of her.

"I will get food," Nekura whispered. "You stay here; at least then I won't have to wworry about you."

With that, Nekura turned and dashed into the woods, hardly rustling a leaf. She watched her go, and then turned to the dwarf again. "My name is Echo," she said, "but I don't believe you've introduced yourself yet?" She walked toward him, a smile on her face, and tripped, the world spinnign again.

He caught her arm and she smiled up at him kindly as he righted her. "Do you have a name?" she said, almost teasing him, but the dwarf looked off toward the woods, toward the creature, the wraith, and where it hid. 'But hwy is it hiding?' she thought...

((Cool! NO double post. I swear i was going to double post.))

The dwarf paused in his own thoughts for a moment, thinking about the question. He had no name and no one had really ever asked him directly for it. He had always turned up and got a job and done it and gone away again, no questions asked.
You may call Dwarf. I have no name. That was all he said for a long time. He watched his feet for a while and then heard tyhe girl shiver and curl up to keep warm, even by the fire she was still cold.
I have a couple of things that might help to keep you warm, if you want them.he said as the girl shivered and curled up tighter. She nodded and tried to say 'yes' but the words wouldn't come her teeth were chattering so much.
The dwarf got up and crossed over to his pack, which was lying under the tree which the wraith was in. He pulled from it two things, a blanket, of thick woolen quality, and a crystal flask. The flask was set about in many dwarfish runes and patterns of the ancient stars and contained a shimmering, clear blue liquid. He stumped back over to the girl and swathed the blanket over her tiny body.He then picked up a cup that had been next to him, tipped out whateverf had been in there before and pulled a small amount of the liquid into it and handed it to the girl. She sniffed at it surspicously, and then, satisfied it wasn't pioson, downed it in one go. The warmth caressed her veins and muscles and relaxed her convulsive body into stillness. She was suddenly not so weak, but very tired.

It was a couple of hours later when the girl had slipped in slumber that there was a slight rustle in the leaves opposite the dwarf. He satyed still but at the same time clasped his axe and knife which were always close to him. He watched the creature as it nvestigated the clearing from outside it and then the figure stopped dead, as it knew he was being watched. It stepped into the clearing and the Dwarf lept to his feet and raised his axe and knife in readiness....

((It is over to you now Boralf. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>))

Ruccus was amused. His enemy seemed not be afraid of him and he could feel no evil about him. But he left him pinned to the tree all the same. He did not trust starangers easily, it wasn't in his nature.
He took a closer look at the person in front of him. He was tall and strongly built, his scabbard hung from his side threatingly, but it w3as empty. His face was young but the eyes had a depth to them that comes with great age and wisdom.
The sword that had been drawn was now lieing on the floor not far away from the girl that was still fast asleep.

I am srry about your cloak, but i thank you for your compliment. But we must be quiet, the girl is still sleeping. Come, you do not feel evil.
With that he walked forward to the man and realeased him from the constraint of the axe. He beckoned him towards the fire and offered him a pipe.

He accepted the pipe gratefully and lit it with flint from a small pouch...

In fact i do feel evil, especialy around this place ((scuze the pun)), Forgive myself I am Boralf, Of Gondor, I am part of an ancient Brotherhood who have taken an oath to rid the land of all those whom are descended from those Minions of Sauron whom greed had given Power. You know of course i talk of the Wraiths, and my ancestor is the one who killed the Wraith king of former times. Now though I am on the trail of a Wraith that is different from the others, it seems not to have lost any of the Human attributes that grant it control. My Brothers are looking elsewhere in the land for this mystery Wraith but i believe it is here, can you tell me anything...

He sat back and puffed on his pipe gently

((ooc))Sounds very good!)

She watched the gruff man fling the short stocky creature against a tree from the shadows of the woods, not daring yet to make her presence known. The sight of battle had alerted her senses, and had brought her this way. Her human sight could not make out the other figures by the fire, but she knew they were there. Silently pulling her sword from it's sheath, she was ready in case the gruff man decided to come her way. Years as a Ranger had honed her survival skills, and she knew the lesson of caution well. Despite the declaration that the rightful King of Gondor and Arnor had returned to the throne, still for the most part her people still wandered the lands, protecting the innocent. Sharing the same dark hair and grey eyes of her people, she blended in well with the shadows around her, awaiting her chance.

((Just to check. You aren't in the same place as us are you? I didn't quite get that one. It was a little confusing <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif"border=0>))

The Dwarf and the man sat late into the night, waiting and watching for any sign of the Wraith. After two hours the creature that had arriveds with the girl came back carying several rabbits in its mouth.
If Boralf was surprised to see it he concealed the surprise from the group. Ruccus roasted the rabbits over the fire on a crude spit. He woke the girl up, avoided the creature as it looked at him, as if daring him to do anything harm the girl.
I mean her no harm, just as you do. Alright. Are you going to let me wake her up so she can eat something while it is warm.
There was a pause. Then the creature relaxed and sank to the floor, spreadegalled on the ground as if it was made of lots more bones than it looked.

The girl stirred in his touch and then she woke, still looking frightened, then she saw Boralf and scrambled backwards on all fours like a crab, until she bumped into a tree, looking positively petrified.

(sorry for the confusion Ruccus, I am in the trees outside your camp watching from the shadows, observing)

Gilda felt a cool breeze ruffle through her hair as she crouched amongst the crinkling dead leaves under her feet. The tree boughs above her head whispered and sighed in the night, and she saw the campfire about ten yards away flicker in the breeze. There the large hairy beast sat, along with a young girl and what appeared to be a dwarf, the firelight playing upon their features and in the beast's ebony hair. She crept closer, hiding behind a gnarled massive oak tree which served as excellent protection, awaiting to learn more of these creatures before coming out into the revealing light of the fire.

"Oh, cripe," she thought to herself as she peered over into the camp, "Another one! How can one turn into four so easily?" She knew it would hardly matter to her plans if it was just one dwarf, but now there was one dwarf, a man, a young girl, and some unfamiliar creature. It wouldn't be as easy now as she had thought... She had to take them all out somehow, but how? She could only go for one of them at a time... But if one was caught, the others would attack and throw her off course. She suddenly thought she had a plan.

The wraith crept down the branches of the tree and snuck down through the undergrowth, toward the tree where the girl lay, apparently backing away from the newcome man. She got up behind the tree, and made sure the other two weren't looking, conversing with each other at the other side of the fire. Perfect.

The wraith brought out her whip, whirled about the tree, and suddenly caught the surprised girl by the throat. She wrapped the whip about the girl's arms and waist as well, preventing her from any escape, and stood, with her hood well concealing her face, and held her knife to the girl's throat, getting a distance from the others, and backing up against a large tree so that she wouldn't be sneaked up on from behind by the creature from earlier. The man and dwarf almost instantly turned, and the dwarf reached for his axe without hesitation.

"Oh, I wouldn't if I were you," the wraith whispered harshly, "You wouldn't want your little friend here with a slit throat now, would you?" She kept all her senses on alert, aware of every single motion made around her. She would get them all at once. "Drop all your weapons."

((Nice move!!))

What makes you think she is our friend? She means nothing to us, go ahead kill her.

The Dwarf sounded so sincear that it confused the Wraith. It had not expected that the Dwarf would say this. As she had not seen that the three had only just met, she did not know that there was no relation between the three as yet, and therefore had reckoned that the other two would try and protect the girl.

The dwarf did not listen to the Wraiths order to drop his weapons. The dwarf and man watched the Wraith and the girl. The tension could have been cut with a knif as the two parties stood, poised to attack or defend.

The wraith hesitated a bit at this, she had not expected the two to simply allow her to kill the girl, she would not have as well an aim, she had to think fast to achieve the best possible advantage over them. Then again, they may be lying, she knew the animal to their side showed some sort of care for the girl, though it may have been trying to hide it at the moment. She decided she would have to prove the persons' truth in their words, and if this plan did not work, she may have a more difficult time trying to take them all out with their weapons in hand.. But it was worth a try...

"Well then I guess you wouldn't mind if I did this..."

The wraith slipped the blade of the knife slowly, just across the girl's neck, and as the silver blade glided gently along, it left a thin, clear line of dark blood which dripped onto the gound. The girl cried out in pain, some of which the wraith could not understand, it appeared to be a different language... But it didn't matter. The wraith tilted the blade of the kinfe downward, and let the bright red droplets slowy drip off into the fire. The cut she had left was not enough to cut the girl's breath off, not just yet, and if none reacted sooner to her threat to drop their weapons, the girl would simply die a most slow and painful death, and the wraith expected that none of them could bear that, especially if the girl did indeed mean anything at all to them. She raised the knife again, about to make another gash across the girl's neck...

Ruccus pulled from his belt a small axe, about six inches from blade to pick end. While the Wraith was destracted with the enjoyment of the girl in pain, its arm rasied to strike a deep cut in the girls side, Ruccus raised the minature hatchet, weighed it in his hand and then took aim. He trhow it.

It punctured the Wraith's rasied hand, right next to the handle of the knife. No blood came from the wound as the Wraith screamed its horrible call. A few secvonds later another hachet appeared in the wrist next to it, aimed so the pick end of it went through and pinned the arm to the tree.

The wraith, her hands occupied with the girl, did not react in time to avoid the hatchets thrown by the dwarf, which pierced both her hands and pinned them to the tree behind her. The dwarf got ready to throw another, aiming at her heart, and she screeched in pain and immediately turned to her side and bit the handle of the hatchet with her teeth, and jerked it out as hard as she could. She then used her maimed, yet now free hand to yank the hatchet opposite which pierced her other hand and threw both axes down to the ground in fury.

Seeing the girl scrambling to get free of the loosened whip, the wraith quickly swept up, ignoring the searing oain in her wrists, and grabbed the handle of the whip, pulling back the girl into her grasp. She knew that now that there was such an increase in the panic about, she may not have time for her own way of battle... Her plan probably would not work now, but she decided to buy some time. Before the dwarf could launch another attack, she grabbed up the girl and took off into the dark woods, out of view in the dark. When she had gotten into a well-hidden fir tree, she brought the girl up and down onto her knees.

"Now," the wraith said through her teeth, "the matter of whether I should kill you now, or make use of your current situation..."

She could hear the others through the woods not far off, she could see the light of the fire. She would have to think quickly of what to do now, she would probably have to pick them off one by one... She would deal with the girl first. The wraith turned back to her, and realized that she no longer had her knife. She reached into her cloak pocket, pulling out a long, wood and metal crossbow, and fitted an arrow, bringing the weapon into aim at the girl. The wraith held it as steady as she could with her slashes hands, but it would still be almost no problem to take the girl out now. She took aim at her neck...

Gilda, who had been watching the horrifying scene play out before her while she hid in the trees, saw the wraith creature take the girl. The wraith, black cloak swishing around and covering the terrified girl, escaped into a tree near the hiding Ranger. Gilda made her move, and the Wraith met a sword to her throat just as she was about to execute the poor girl.

"Stop," Gilda hissed through clenched teeth. The Wraith froze, knowing one move could be the "death" of her. The other members of the party had come up, Dwarf with his battle axe drawn and ready, and the man posed also to attack. The Wraith wavered, unsure what to do next.

The Wraith was stuck, unable to move. The pain of her wrists was making it hard to keep the crossbow up. She could not move her body as the wipe that was round the girl was attached to its waist.

Dwarf approuched the Wraith from the side so as to avoid the trigger of the bow. He stood next to the Ranger adn reached forwards, and removed the bolt from the crossbow's grove.

It appears that you are stuck. Did you really think we would let you kill her. But this Lady here has saved us for it was a hard shot for me with my axe.

Ruccus, as a Dwarf was filled with anger dor the actions of this wraith, and he looked as though he would put an end to its existence, he was poised as if nothing would stop him, Gilda looked menacing holding the blade to the wraiths throat, Ruccus held the Bolt from the crossbow close to her heart and asked her to give him one reason why he should not do it...

The wraith tried to move, Ruccus shouted and held his arm back just about to strike...

NOOOO Screamed Boralf, and knocked his wrist so that his arm was put of course, The dwarf fell and this was all the Wraith needed, her injured wrists took the arm of Gilda and cruelly twisted it so that she dropped the blade before running of into the forest, a tree getting in the way of an axe that Ruccus had thrown, Gilda was on the floor and Ruccus was Holding his wrist, He Grabbed one of his throwing axes, and held it at Boralf threateningly...

What the hell do you think you were doing, have you no sense???
