The War (a war RP) (ooc)

Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

Alright gang here’s the deal. This is basically a war. You can join whenever and where ever you choose, fight on whichever side you choose, and do as well as you choose.

A few simple things I’d kinda like to keep as rules, though I can’t really enforce them or really want to, are:

Please don’t twink too badly:
This means, I’m sure everybody is incredible. Elves are immortal and fast and skilled and all that and men are great with their swords and whatever else you want them to be great at and wizards are powerful. But do please try to be realistic.

You may have an army:
Think about it, a couple hundred good men to fight along side you. Please don’t bring the bulk of the entire allied force with you.

General Cortelo’s army is the biggest. That way we have a bulk of men that is always around but not really controlled by anybody really. They are just there to provide a lot of men so that we don’t depend on individual Rp’rs to supply all the troops. I will only take personal control of Cortelo’s entire army for something special or drastic, which shouldn’t happen too often.

You may have multiple characters:
You may have as many NPCs (non player characters) or PCs (Player characters) as you wish. This allows you to have notable personal actions instead of just having an army bash at an army. Also they come in handy if you want a cool dramatic death.

AUTOING:
There will be no autoing without expressed permission. I’m tempted to say, nothing in the slightest, not one word or action but I believe most here are mature enough to know what is too much. I don’t care if you say a few words on someone else’s behalf, if they don’t like it they can take it up with you. What I’m talking about is fighting or troop movements or convo in battle where you might be tempted to have someone else say something stupid of cowardly or move their troops unstrategically so you can haul their but out of the fire latter or something. Just get permission before you do anything serious with someone else’s character

On the other hand feel free to make allies and make it just like an RP. There just wont be any set story line except “lets kill the bad guys” depending what side you want to be on.

Symbols:
For clarity sake, I’m not sure if this will hold together for long or not but bare with me, if you decide to fight on the side of “good” if you wouldn’t mind putting (@) the top of the post, that might help to separate them a bit. If you are on the “evil” side would you put (!*!) at the top of the post. You can have characters on either side, just be sure to clarify which post or section is for the “good” and which is for the “evil”.

There is a base camp:
Back in the forest and the surrounding planes there is the main camp. There are smaller camps around that I will allow Rp’rs to place at their discretion. These camps you may go to, to rest do whatever you want, rest you armies, re-outfit, talk, drink, laugh, whatever.

Well that’s all I can think off right now, I’ll see how it goes, or even if it goes, and see if we need anything else. If you want, you may post any personal or army bios here, its not really required but it is fun and cool to see what we have going. Also any comments or ideas are appreciated.

Happy gaming ^_^ ~Quimrill
That’s fine. I guess I should probably post my guys bio.

Name: Cortelo’
Sex: male
Race: human
Age: 47
Height: 6’3”
Occupation: General of Caladinian forces under the Red Falcon banner, commander and chief of allied forces.

Personality: Friendly with friends, not with not. Basically, he is close to his trusted friends, like his elite guard, but those that have given him no reason to like them, not necessarily have ticked him off but are just neutral too, he largely ignores. His own troops he respects and has an excellent commander-soldier relationship with but he isn’t about to go fishing with many of them. He has no quarrels about sacrificing men, even good friends, were he must be sacrificed. He realizes the difference between spending lives and wasting lives. He has very little tolerance for rookies who seem big on themselves. In general he does not throw the weight of his rank around unless it is to make and example of somebody or to deflate swollen heads.

Appearance: obviously tall. Built like a brick house. His body is covered in scars and his eyes show the weariness of long-term battle and campaigning. He has a pleasant but hard face. He is shaved clean and his hair is cut fairly short. Ruggedly handsome some would say though he doesn’t think much of his own appearance. His eyes are sharp and he radiates authority and walks with deadly confidence. He doesn’t show it in public but when alone his eyes droop from exhaustion and his shoulders tend to slump under the intangible yoke of responsibility.

Skills: brilliant tactician, radiates confidence, has a way with encouraging words as well as cutting remarks. Is a master swordsmen with his long saber, can wreak pretty good havoc with a halberdier.

Equipment: varies, it all depends what he picks up that day. Usually is wearing burnished steel breastplate, chain male tunic, and iron studded leather pants. Wears a steel conical helmet with long red feather to mark him for his troops, and unfortunately for enemy troops. He sports a pair of steal gauntlets as well. Always carries his long handled curved saber.

History: When the Orcs started to invade from Mordor the Council of Caladin threw their army against them, and from her officers she promoted Cortelo’ to be general of her armies, setting the fate of the world souly on his shoulders. The first thing Cortelo’ did was to send out emissaries to collect men to join his army and fight against the oncoming darkness.
Cortelo’ first met the enemy not far from Mordor itself. Literally cutting the Orc army in half as it stretched into Middle Earth. Sustaining heavy losses Cortelo’ managed to annihilate the forces already in middle earth and drive the severed arm of Sauron back into Mordor. Sauron recognized the threat immediately and sent his army against the Caladinian army directly. Since then it has been touch and go, with small skirmishes and huge battles as both sides have battered mercilessly at each other, trying to drive the other back.

NPA (Non-Played Army): The full might of Caladinia, the bulk of the forces fighting the orcs, Consist of mainly foot soldiers, with a decent backing of mounted Calvary and bowmen. Number somewhere in the 200,000 range. (These I do not play, they are just there to provide a good background, and provide warm bodied support or massacre where they are needed by anyone)

PA (Played army): Cortelo’ himself and 27 of the Elite guard. These soldiers are the best of the best that Caladin has to offer. They are still only soldiers but they are good at what they do. Each carries a weapon of his or her choice, manly swords but a few spears thrown in here and there. Excellent riders and are unquestioningly loyal to Cortelo’ but above him the crown of Caladin but since he represents Caladin, they obey him in all things.

(a little long but I wanted to be sure I included most of the possible and semi-required feilds. Quar, I'm assuming your girl has no army)
She has about 150 orcs with her. She's just reall wrapped up in her thought right now, y'know since she has that split personality type thing.

I haven't been in an RPG for awhile so I'm still trying to get the hang of things once again...I hope you don't mind me joining. I might wait(or perhaps not) before joining the story so I can see where I might fit in best. Here is a profile of my character -

Name: Durfindel Hinahecil (Meaning: dark-haired, child-outcast)
Alias: Raven
Race: Elf - Calaquendi
Age: Very old, looks mid twenties
Height: 5'7"
Build: Slender and slightly curvy
Occupation: Sorceress, assassin, and spy
Marital Status: Widow
Appearance: Durfindel has tan skin and raven black hair that goes to her lower back. Her eyes change color with her surroundings but are usually a forest green.
Markings: A long scar running from her lower left shoulder to the right side of her waist, it was from a near fatal wound, very few know of it.
Outfit: Durfindel tries to go unnoticed so she often wears a black cloak. But beneath is a garnet color shirt, tight fitting, and matching brown pants and knee high leather boots.
Possessions/Weapons: She has many knives: two boot knives, two slender blades behind her waist, throwing knives beneath her wrist guards, a fighting knife at her waist, a and sword.
Means of Travel: A black horse from the South, called Helevorn, meaning 'black glass'.
Skills: She is a fully trained sorceress and has the ability to cast some powerful spells, but she usually will not use her powers. Also a good archer but best at sword and knife fighting.
Personality: Will be very quiet at times, she keeps mostly to herself. But sometimes she will open up and speak very deeply with those closest to her. When she is on an assassation she can become very cold and remote. Her true self is seen only in the presence of her daughter Iluve.
Biography: Born in the bliss of Valinor, she is the first born daughter of Galadriel. Her father is not Celeborn, she was born before Galadriel's marrige to Celeborn. After Durfindel left Valinor she spent many years in wandering Middle-earth. At some time in her life she learned sorcery from the Istari. She learned quickly and is now a very powerful sorceress.

I remind you all that posting lists of statistics is contrary to the spirit and purpose of this forum. These are not Role Play Games, they are Role Play Stories It would be far better for you to write out a paragraph or two describing your character's appearance, background and personality.

An RP thread is a cooperative story written by the participants, each taking on the persona of one(or more) characters in the tale. There are no winners and no loosers in these stories and good writing is prized beyond all.

I suggest that you read the guidelines for posting in this forum.

Ah! I was wandering when you would grace my thread with your presence. I thought you might seeing as how this is somewhat unconventional.

Perhaps I did not make myself clear when I started this. There are no winners or losers. The only way to lose is to write yourself losing. This Rp will encourage participants to write creatively explore both sides of the coin. Win some loose some, and write well in that respect. In the real world in well written novels, your side dose not always prevail.

This Rp allows people to go strait into combat should they wish it. I know a reason that alot of Rps fail is because they become boring because either they get into a conversational rut or just not enough action. This Rp will provide people to go into battle in groups or just write a fantastic war scene of their own, and then retire to the camps to talk together and, eat drink and be merry. When they are tired of that, there is a ready made battle right outside the door.

This I realize is twink bate, but it can also be a place to really show some awsome writing. To really explore the regions of hate (For what they did to me!), rage (Revenge is mine!), saddness (They killed my dog), romance (save the girl of your dreams from the jaws of death lately? or better yet, any maidens need rescuing out there?).

So anyway, that is basically the purpose of this Rp...

OIC That is an extremely interesting concept. It would comprise a new variation in the type of RP done here on TORC. What you basically suggest is a series of war vignettes that may or may not be connected to each other in an overall story. Hmmmm Interesting in deed.

I can see that you are aware of the possible pitfalls in such an endeavor and I shall be watching closly but trust that you too will advise and montitor the thread to keep it within the guidelines for this forum.

With good writing as a standard and goal I can see where this could fit into the scope of Role Play here. Now don't let me down and I better not catch even a whiff of Gaming mentality in here, got it?

I might even consider an occassional post, I"m good at war scenes

Cool, I'd love to see you around in here if this thing takes off like I hope it will.

We'll see what happens. I will do my best to keep the quality to a good level. I've been writing for about four years online and currently admin on a couple boards so hopefully I'll be able to keep it on the strait and narrow.

I keep coming back to this board because there is alot of really good talent here. ^_^

Anyway, on a more general note, a couple minutes after I post this I'll be posting the "bad" guys starting post on the ic.

Now I'm back and in a good Rp and I hope it doesn't.

Yeah feal free to post whenever you get around to it, there really isn't any real timeline to keep tabs with though. I might just start a third thread where people can coordinate movements...

hmmm....

Quimrill, I tried to figure out a character and stuff but i need more information about this war.

Where does this take place in Middle Earth?

Who are the main peoples taking part in this war? Humans, orcs, wildmen, harad, etc.

What time period is this? After or before the ring is destroyed. If you could just include a bit of information about this and the time period as I dont know very much at all about the history of Middle Earth, i just read the Lord of the Rings, not all the history books.

Also i was wondering if i could have two characters, one possibly in your elite guard or somewhere else in your army and another as the representative of a city state leading an army of 5000 or so.

EDIT: Also, what the heck is a drow?

Where does it take place? I like to think its in South Ithilien

Species?
I’m leaving that totally open, meaning you can play any race you want, anything at all, provided that it feasibly lives in middle earth. This means that a drove of dragons would probably be frowned upon even though they do exist in the books. I wouldn’t want any one player with that much power unless they can prove to me they are capable of very good and creative writing and can keep themselves in check. But you can play anything at all; of course lets keep the species on their respective sides. Men can be on about any side and Elves tend to mainly stay on the side of good and Orcs are always bad. You know, common sense stuff.

As far as time goes… I’d say it was before the War of The Ring. It is when Sauron is spreading his shadow. It is long enough before the final battle so that there is no definite winner though. Keep in mind this is not an actual event, written about in any of the books, this is more of just a place for people to have fun fighting together, and practice their war scenes and fighting writing techniques, meat new people, whatever.

Characters? Sure you can have as many as you want, and that fine if one wants to represent another army, that’s sorta what we are going for. As for one in my Elite? Well I suppose I haven’t really thought of it. As a general rule you can’t just insert your characters into other people’s armies without their permission. This wouldn’t apply to the main bulk of the troops since they really aren’t my army per say. But if you personally would like to put a guy into my Elite, yeah I suppose I wouldn’t mind, go for it.

Drow? I’m not sure. What context or sentence was it used in? I just don’t remember it.
A Drow is a dark elf. It's not used in any of Tolkien's books but has been used in the many RPG-like novels spawned by Tolkien's genius. Basically, they are like elves, slender, tall, and such, save that they have blackish skin and red eyes. Most of them are considered evil and dark, although there have been exceptions (Drizzt ROCKS!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>) I'm sure someone could fit them in here although it may be a challenge...

Quar was the one that used it. I'm wondering, is your character a shapeshifter?

Anyways, this all out war thing sounds pretty good. I don't think I'll be using Istari in this thread. He's not much of the war persona... I think, however, that Forindol would be perfect. I'll post his description and bio soon. I'll have to edit it a bit, since he was in an RP that wasn't in ME...

Cool, I think pretty soon I am going to have to make a meeting thread. It might be kinda hard for players to get together on the actual war board, between all kinds of fighting.

Yeah, maybe a camp thread were people can meat and talk about their plans to fight and then they can move it on over to the War thread.

We'll see...

Hello... I started a thread like this a while back ago called "The White Hand" it got pretty popular but people stopped posting after a while, such as myself, for varius different reasons. However it was great fun so I would love to get in another one of these.

Here's a bio

Name: Rainfield Dactariun

Race: Man (male)

Appearance: Rainfield is strong, but not real big. He stands around 6'1, 180 pounds. He as straight darkish brown hair, that is shaggy looking. His bangs come down to his eyes, nd the rest of his hair goes to his shoulders. At the tips his hair curls just a pit. He has
hazel eyes, and light beard that comes and goes.

Occupation: Was once a Ranger, then became a Captain of Rohan, and his loyalties are always with his good friend and King, Eomer. However in this thread I may just be a ordinary soldier, I guess a could be the Captain of a small section of the Rohan Army.

Weapons: Spear, that is a little bit larger than he. At the tip is long metal blade that covers the last foot of the spear. He also uses the spear as a walking stick. Long sword, the hilt is silver and dark green lines are winded around the hilt. The tip of the sides are pointed making a diamond shape. Inside the diamond shape, is a onyx jewel. The blade starts out wide but tilts in, making a long silver blade. He carries a bow, but only uses when in great need. And always fastened to his right leg is standard silver knife.

Cloths/Armor: He has a dark green long shirt, and black plants. He wears a black belt, and dark leather boots. He wears chainmail gauntlets that are covered up with a dark green glove, that that is cut off at the tips of the fingers. He wears armored shoulder guards, that go down to his elbow, and arm bracers that start at the elbow and go to the wrist. The color of the armor is silver with green lines going around the arm. Over his black shirt he wears a armored breast plate that is cut off at the ribs, but he only wears it when going into battle. He has the usual Rohirrim(sp?) helmet, but again only wears it when going into battle. When simply traveling, he wears a dark green cloak, bearing the Rohan flag in the upper right corner.

If you want history on him just ask, I just didn't feel like writing the whole thing down.

Also:
I've been gone a while so excuse me if I make any mistakes, and if I used to be in a thread with someone, and if that thread is still going please let me know. (I havn't seen any of them yet)

Hi. I haven't done a whole lot of RPing, so if you don't want me to join, I don't mind. If it's ok though, I'll post my character's description in a later post, after I'm done developing her(and I'm almost done, don't worry). =o)

Forindol is a man, a little short for one of his age, yet no less imposing for it. He is slender and his muscles are lean rather than bulky. He can lift more than what his body seems to be able to. He has long, black hair that reaches just past his shoulders and green eyes. Despitehis strangely slender frame, Forindol seems to be the picture of a soldier.

His personality reflects his life. Forindol is usually calm and collected, although if he loses his temper, it is never a good thing. He leads a disciplined life and expects others in his army to do so as well. He is a brutal trainer and ruthless in battle against his enemies. A few drinks can lighten him up though, even if it increases the risk of his losing his temper.

Forindol is a soldier. He left his farm when he was twelve to join the ranks of the army of Listil (A made up city, somewhere near Carn Dum in order to watch over the lands that the Witch King once held. It was one of the last remaining fortresses of the realm of Arnor.) While there, he was working as a squire until he was deemed old enough to wield a sword properly. Once he became a soldier, he quickly advanced in ranks until he became the First Captain of the City Guard (One of the youngest to do so) He commands a regiment of Listil's army now.

this is the first edition of my character, i may change it up until i begin to post. Sorry it is a bit long

Name: Arcanum of the house of Cruoris
Race: human
Age: 34
Height: 5’9
Occupation/Skills: Warrior, skill as an assassin, Scout, brigand/thief, prefers night fighting because his eyes are better adjusted when his surroundings are darker. He has skills in all kinds of different weapons.
Marital Status: Single
Appearance: A large man with broad shoulders and heavily muscled from years of military service. He has large hands and thick wrists and neck. Has long dark brown hair and cold grey eyes. He has numerous scars from various encounters but one long white scar runs up the side of his face from his right upper lip and slowly rising until it is between his temple and his ear. The shape of an eye is branded into the palm of his left hand (often covered with leather gloves the type with no fingers) and a tattoo of a wolf head is upon his right bicep.
Clothing: He is often wearing a long black cloak lined with chain mail, very heavy but effective. When in colder weather he wears a wolf skin shawl type of thing. Wears mainly black clothing on top with chain mail between two layers of clothing with a heavy leather tunic on the bottom and heavy leather boots. He has segmented plate armour much like that of the Romans with pauldrons.
Weapons/Possessions: His main weapon is a very utilitarian blade (long sword), void of any markings except the notches on the blade from much usage. He has a long thin dagger in the sleeve of his tunic, another knife in his boot weighted for throwing, and a short knife in his belt. He has a sharpening stone and a tinderbox always on his person and usually has a recurved bow on his horse saddle. Also he has a circular shield.
Means of Travel: There is always walking but he rides a large warhorse named Aquilo.
Personality: Very quiet and secretive, and keeps his head in any conflict. Despises commanders and takes a long time to bond with anyone, and distrusts all people and prefers to live by his own wits and personal strength. Deeply honour based, either has a deep respect for you, treats you with neutrality, or hates your guts. Honours enemies greatly; usually more than his allies.
Bio: Grew up on a farm in the present war zone, his family, the Cruoris was butchered when he was 10. Soon thereafter an old warrior, Ajaxel, raised him. Here he was taught the usage of all kinds of different weapons, sword, bow, spear, etc. When he was 16 his tutor and surrogate father died. Not knowing what to do he went off to the nearest town and looked for work. One night he found himself walking in a back alley where a drunken man was attempting to rape a woman. He beat the man senseless, and the man turned out to be the son of a very influential and wealthy family in the region. Needless to say, he was thrown in prison. Later he escaped and killed the man that put him in prison, he now had a gigantic bounty on his head. He fled to the North - East, hoping to make it to the iron hills, but was captured by the wild men and sent into the mines (where he got the brand mark in his palm). There he again escaped and joined a mercenary group, where he quickly worked his way up the ranks to head a shock troop division of elite soldiers. Various towns hired the mercenaries for defense, but when the towns ran out of money to pay them, they moved on leaving them to their own fate. The Mercenary group was originally only 500 strong, but they have joined up with other groups with another commander named Caltar as their head, they now hover at close to 6000 in strength. The army is a conglomeration of heavy infantry with tower shields and spears and long swords (1000), light infantry (1500), spearmen (1500), auxiliary troops (800), light and heavy cavalry (250 of each), 700 archers, and various others such as doctors, veterinarians, armourers, etc. The people range from different backgrounds, adventurers, people just in it for the money, and people who had no meaning in life and were hopeless. They are currently in this war zone representing the business interests of a mining company far to the north who has business interests in this area. The mining company is north of the Iron Hills, where they have an abundance of many important minerals (mithril, gold, silver, iron, coal, etc.). These they use to make armour and weapons. They want the land for their own personal gain, or so all the mercenaries think.
Welcome Astalder. I really like the bio.

Everybody: I'm going to creat the camp board now. Here you may enter, eat, drink, talk, discuss, form alliances, work out battle plans and then move your group over to the war board for an actual battle.

I'll have that up in a few minutes, hopefully, after this post

enjoy! ^_^

You have caught my attention with this. I used to play quite often on this forum and I was in several threads. However, lately I have been quite bored with the typical monotony that seems to be evident in reoccuring plots etc. As well, I have had issues with finding time for some threads. This thread however seems quite interesting in its scope. It seems somewhat unique. I've seen war threads but never looked at them so I dont know if it is an entirely new concept or not. However, it is new to me. Thus, I would like if possible to participate. As for what I plan to be... well...

I am still formulating a character... I need a tad bit more background first though.

Oh, one other thing- on the first post here can you put a list of who is playing on the good side, who is playing on the evil side, and then their character name as well (alignment collums listing poster and then their character).

As well, some questions: what are the names of the two warring factions. You mentioned the name of the good side but not the evil side. What sparked the war? Is it merely the expansion of Sauron? That would mean that Sauron is their leader. Or, is it a mercenary force/kingdom that is hired by Sauron? Or, is it separate entity that is declairing war for means besides the war of the ring? As well, who is the leader of the evil side? Given the lack of a strong evil support (I see only one poster who is on the evil side) I am half tempted to roleplay the part of the evil leader but I am not sure... I have an interesting idea though already for characters should I role play his unit...

Also, other questions- setting? Is the good side attacking the evil? Evil attacking good? Is any side sieging a castle, city, etc or is it met in an even field? What is the significance of this battle on a military level? Is it taking an important city, routing an army on an advance to an important city, trying to ambush an army at a chokehold? Why fight here of all places? What surroundings are nearby? Mountains, trees, water, etc? Is one side at an advantage? How long has the battle been going? Possibly can a terrain map be made on a website even? I'd even possibly like to know unit placement on the map as events go on but that is really hard to do nonetheless request since I dont have time to do it... Oh, also how about food supplies etc. How long of a campaign did they plan for especially if it is a siege (since a starvation tactic could be used).

What type of army is the evil army? Orcs, humans, etc? Given the fact that I probably will play on the evil side (given the lack of evil players...) I'd like more background. I'm tempted to ask to play the commanding evil unit but not sure yet if I want to do that, if I can do that, or if I have better ideas elsewhere...

Anyway, lots more background info please so I can make a character...

On second thought... given the character made for the leader, I will make something else as my main character. I will let you play the leader of the evil side I guess too.

Here is what I am planning possibly as the character I am making... this is tenative.

Human wizard trained mostly in necromancy, summoning, etc. The evil military's chief strategist. Follows in a Sun Tzu like style concerning the psychological emphasis of warfare as the most essential.
One apprentice trained in the similar arts. The apprentice, though technically an apprentice, bears similar if not equal power to his master but due to age and experience has not been promoted. His race, half elven, also has stalled his progress notably.

He commands an army of 700 men. As for what type of unit, I am not quite sure. Nor do I know their placement on the field yet.

Hi all, this is my bio, I may change it to fit better though.

Name: Astrophel of the house of Eldinair
alias: Nemesis; the Dark wanderer
Race: Sindarin and Peredhel
gender: female
physical description: icy blue eyes, long black hair with silver streaks; 6'1"; age is unknown. Wears black leather armour w/ black leather boots and a dark grey cloak. Weilds the elven forged sword Balia and two daggers that she keeps in her boots. She has two scars, one on her abdomen and the other is across her back.
personality: a villian turned good, mostly a loner because she doesn't trust easily. Extremely loyal to those that earn her friendship which is very few. Quick witted and tries to think things through before jumping in to action. Tries to avoid an excessive amount of attion by staying back in the shadows. She doesn't like to discuss her past and only a few know of it.
past: She was born in Lothlorien but was taken from there when she was very young. Her parents were killed along side Gil-galad and she grew angry and vengefull. She became almost nomadic, not staying in once place for very long mostly because she caused too many problems and the locals kicked her out. After becoming a hired assassin she earned a small fortune from her missions but she eventually gave it all away. She commands a force of 150 men having lost about 200 in "agressive negotiations" with a small army of orcs, this is also where she earned her scars.
Good bio Atrophel, look forward to Rping with you.

Heheh, well you don’t ask for much do you, wandering? ^_^

Its alright though, lets see what I can do to clarify this once again. A lot of what you have asked has been explained throughout this ooc thread in response to other questions, but I’ll go ahead and recompile it.

As for the first part, that is a good idea, no doubt, but I will be waiting to do that until more people actually start playing. Right now that list would be comprised of two people, one on each side and I would rather wait until I have at least five people playing. Later on I can even post a list of current alliances and battles currently under way.

The two warring factions don’t really have names, if you really want them to; I suppose The Caladinian forces and her allies would be one side and the forces of Sauron the other. This is indeed merely and attempted expansion of Sauron. He is trying to cover the world in darkness and is sending forth his armies into middle earth to conquer the free lands. This is quite a while before the forces of middle earth even became aware of the ring. Sauron is indeed their leader but he is not their on sight tangible commander, an Orc by name of Rothfallin is currently their commanding general, and I will be roll playing him should it become necessary to do so. If I deem it necessary in the future to have someone else play him, perhaps someone on the evil side, I will decide whom is best to do that at that time. Currently though we only have one person on that side and they have expressed the possibility of changing sides eventually, so I have not done much to develop that side.

As for the questions on the military aspects of this, I must start out by stating that this is not a Role Playing Game, it is simply a role-play. The setting is vague so that you may make it into whatever suits your setting for your scene. The army of Sauron is started out on the offensive. It was sent out with Rothfallin at its head to conquer Middle Earth. When Caladinia saw the threat it interceded and beat Sauron’s army back. After that the war really started with both sides giving and taking ground. Both sides seem evenly matched and have at estimated count retreated and advanced nearly equally. After the initial short lived victory of Caladin and when the Orcs started pushing out again, both side sent out into the surrounding realms for support. This means that each side is made up of whatever race joins them. The bulk of Sauron’s forces are orcs though there are men too and elves, that does not restrict anybody else from joining however. The bulk of the Caladin is human and elves and more men have joined. I’d say the only restriction would be orcs on Caladin and her allies side.

Those who participate are more or less those who answered the call to arms and joined with either side.

Once again this battle takes place at this current moment, for the opening scene anyway, in South Ithilien, but it doesn’t have to stay there. There is no definite spot. This means people can write a battle whereever they feel they want to. They are currently battling at this spot because that is where Cortelo’ decided to set up a defense after he was recently beat back.

Also at this point there is no city or castle or sieges that are going on, though that is an awesome idea. I think it would be really cool to write battles with fellow RPer’s that take place in castles or cities. Yeah, the battle that I posted, people do not need to get involved in if they don’t want to, they can start their own skirmish or battle somewhere else in the region.

Ummm… I think that’s about it. I leave a lot open for you guys to decide. I don’t want to restrict anyone’s creativity in this.

I also had a thought about different battles. On a single thread it going to be kind of hard to distinguish battle from battle if we get many different ones going on at the same time. So aside from the two symbols I have already established ( (@) = good and (!*!) = bad ) you may want to assign a unique symbol to a battle you start.

Any more questions, feel free to ask…
Hi! I haven't really ever battled much in an Rp before though I am interested in learning how. I am not really experienced in this section so it's alright if you don't want me. This sounds really cool by the way!

I don't really have a character that would fit in here so I have to make one up... that is if you would allow me to join...

Just a thought...
Maybe we should tell someone in the OOC when our character is in war or not, because i was thinking lets say i asked (just to add to the story) one of the characters out for a drink and i didnt realize he was out to war? I would mess up the story a bit and my post would be garbage.

Alaklainiel i dont think any of us are experienced at writing big battles, although i have already thought out and drawn two gigantic battles. Amazing what happens when you just cannot fall asleep at night and get two whole hours of sleep the whole night. Church the next day was a tad strenuous, but i was very awake the whole day.

Ok, I think that answers most of my questions... I am going to watch for a bit to see how things develop since I'm not clear on how everyone will be entering into the fray and I need an idea on what units exist etc. to determine where I want to have my characters placed. I'm not yet entirely sure either on my character's personalities so thats why I'm hesitant to post right now...

Anyway, we need more villans too!

Ugh....sorry about this, but a lot of stuff has come up recently, and I won't be able to keep up with the RP. Might write myself in later, but probably not. =o/

If you dont like any part of this character just tell me in the ooc or email me at wolf_3030@hotmail.com as it is the first character like this i have ever made.

I just kind of whistled up an evil character, as you will find out a sorcerer. He leads no army although he is a very capable commander in battle. He will use both magic and non-magic fighting methods in battle; but when magic is used, depending on how much and what spells, because he is mortal (although he ages very slowly because he is very magical) it drains him of energy and tires out his whole body but mostly his mind.

Name: Ishbane

Race: Human, male

Age: +200

Height: 6’0

Occupation/Skills: Sorcerer who has skills in diabolism (dealings with worship of demons), clairvoyance (power to see things and events that cannot be perceived by the senses), pyro-kinesis (fire), telepathy/Elven mindspeak, telekinesis, potions and the like, and possibly some others that I haven’t thought of yet.

Marital Status: Not a chance

Appearance: tall, shoulder length black raven hair, broad shoulders, slim, gaunt face, pale-greyish coloured skin, blue depthless eyes. Wears a heavy black bear hide cape (which can deflect most slashing cuts), which hangs off of a gold coloured metal pauldron that covers the shoulders and goes around the neck in kind of in an oval shape (hard to explain hope you caught that). The pauldron thing has runes upon it and can be covered by a black hood, which is the fur from a bear’s head and still has the teeth in it. Black leather boots, heavy black pants and black tunic. Underneath the tunic is a scale mail cuirass, and studded leather bracers on the forearms.

Weapons/Possessions: His main weapons are a staff he often caries with him, a tiger claw always used in the left hand with a long sword in his right hand

Means of Travel: A horse akin to that of a Mordor steed, totally black in colour and has the endurance to run an entire day without stopping to rest, but not running flat out.

Personality: For me to know, and you to find out, but he sticks out when seen and is a very imposing figure when he wants to be, an evil radiates off of him. An excellent commander though leads no army.

Bio: N/A
