There he stood, in the middle of what resembled something of an arena, but un-naturally huge. A single dwarf in this huge place. He stood on a patch of dirt about thirty meters around with rocks jutting form the ground. He grinned as he looked at his little domain. Then he lifted his eyes to the rest of the arena. Areas of trees, grass, water, and corruption could be seen everywhere. There are both allies and enemies out there. Caution is necessary…

And with that, he decided to check his arms; this could be a long day. He checked the large axe at his side; it seemed freshly sharpened. He shifted the shield he carried on his back to reveal a leather backpack it held a few satchels of dusts and grains as well as some foods, quills, parchment, and other odds and ends.

He drew three satchels and tied two of them to his belt. The first contained a cursed, diamond dust from the pits of Isengard. It had been mined long ago, during the building of the tower there the dusts were discovered. Upon learning of the treason of Isengurd, the elves cursed the dusts, but for some reason, kept it. It was soon discovered that it had many traits of a good weapon: fast, painful, accurate, and deadly. The other satchel held dried earth form the forest of Fangorn, it was rumored to have healing properties unknown to most men. The dwarf was unsure of it, but it may be needed here.

Wind Walker, as he went by, opened the third satchel. It contained a golden dust, sparkling in the sunlight. Hmm, I think it may be time for a summoning…

*****BEGIN RING ACTION*****
The Air Ring of Pathless Travel began to glow of WW’s hand. It glowed blue and gold mingled together. With his wind hand, the dwarf picked up some of the golden dust it glowed brightly in his palm. He closed his hand tightly and let it drop to his side. He closed his eyes and concentrated on the Guild, the Master Ring Holders, all the other Ring Bearers, and all the world of Middle Earth. Concentration………………

He jerked his hand upward, letting the dust fly to the sky. He kept his ring hand directed upward, and noon a vortex of air sprang from his palm chasing the dust up and catching it and carrying the specks to the outermost stands of the arena. Ringing it in eternal light…
*****END RING ACTION*****

“If they see it, maybe they will come,” he said aloud to himself. The arena was still rather empty, but that could all change soon…
Nearly as soon as the dust flew a bright aura of white light shone about fifteen feet to the left of the dwarf, from that stepped the tall, envoking figure of Nihelm, wanderer, sage, warrior. He walked calmy toward Wind Walker, his sword sheathed and the light fading fast, "hail, Dwarf-Friend, I am Nihelm. I am no enemy of yours yet. No fear need you of an unknown attack. Yet, if battle does come between us two than it shall come with honour and courage. If you wonder how I came to this place so fast, I say that I travelled upon the roads of the spirit land." He walked toward the dwarf and outstetched his hand. Yet if the dwarf was keen eyed he could see that the warriors hand laid easily upon his sword hilt

The dwarf let his ring stay charged, he knew there was a fight to come. Be it in good spirits or for something more. Then a portal of light opened and a being stepped forth. I can travel on wind, but this one can travel on light itself.
"...If you wonder how I came to this place so fast, I say that I travelled upon the roads of the spirit land." said Nihelm, extending one hand and holding his sword hilt the other.
"Nihelm, you are wise! For one does not enter an arena of fighting without precaution. I see your hand, and I see that you are ready to fight. Would you care to spar while we await others?" through his speaking, WW watched Nihelm's hands for sudden movement, not accepting the hand shake. He gripped his axe with the last statement, ready to draw it if the other accepted. His ring still pulsed with its energy...

Nihelm smiled broadly and chuckled, "you too are wise my friend. But yes, I think I would greatly enjoy sparing with you, in good terms." He winked and paced back, not turing away from his advasary. He reached up and removed his red flowing cloak and saluted his enemy. He unsheathed his blade, tossing aside his scabbard. His loose movements showed that he was indeed skilled with the weapon he now wielded, yet his true confidence came not from steel but from spirit, the power of his ring. He concentrated upon that and started to draw forth its power . . .

Wind Walker drew his axe and held it in his right hand, resting it on his shoulder. He met his opponents salute with his left hand and chraged...
Nihelm didn't quite edpect this, but was a warrior and ready none the less. He dropped into a low defense stance. Sword in front, ready to parry as necessary...
The dwarf took three steps...six or so will clear the gap between us... He tossed his axe lightly from his right to his left, and used the momentium of the toss to start a swing...
*****Begin Ring Action*****
"AERO!!!" bellowed the dwarf as his axe came down on Nihelm's sword. And for a second, it seemed as if the taller has that upperhand. But as he swung down, the dwarf had also brought his right hand, bearing his Ring, level. The bellow was an invoking of the basic properities of Air, it caused a torrental wind to be released at his opponent, blowing Nihelm backward a few paces...
*****End Ring Action*****

Elanor (or G_E) sat on rock quite out of the way of the duellests and watched as Nihelm and Wind walker duked it out. She idly wondered where the crowd was as she sat entraced by their swordplay.

A glint of something caught her eye, and she noticed the ring on Wind Walker's hand. She smiled to herself and fingered her own, wondering if it would come in handy.

A slight breeze seemed to flutter around her, ruffling her pale blue gown and whispering through her long curls. She relished in the breeze's coolness upon her skin and smiled inwardly - it was a very warm day.

Looking back down at the battle, she saw a grin on Wind Walker's face as he chanced a glance her way. So that was where the breeze had come from! She giggled warmly and put her head in her hands. She would have to speak to the dwarf and thank him one the spar had commenced.

"What a buch of rocks there are here" Storm was weaving in between the rocks and boulders, until he herd a very small battle.
A nice breeze blew upon Storm when he came over a knoll. Storm was glad he was just wearing his dark green sleave-less robe and not his full one. The only thing slightly anoying was cain mail which was under his scale armour. His Ent Sword was on his back so it woulden't hit the rocks that were everywhere.

Storm finaly got to the fight and also noticed someone waching the fight go on.

There was a rustling sound behind her, and she turned to find a gruff-looking man wearing a green sleeveless tunic and chain mail with a bid sword strapped to his back come plodding through the forest. He looked up from the forest floor and met her blue eyes squarly. For a moment they just stared at each other, then tearing her gaze away, she turned back to the ongoing battle, reaching into a belt around her waist for her dagger. Just in case... she thought as she heard the stranger come nearer.

She glanced beside her and saw that her bow and quiver were where she'd left them. If this man tried to make a move, and her dagger wasn't enough then she could always resort to her other weapon...

Out of the corner of her eye she saw him emerge from the woods, look down at the spar then sit on a rock like her a little ways away. He glanced her way, and her grip on her dagger tightened. Who was this strange man?

As the dwarfs fist came in Nihelm sensed the power of his opponent, he braced himself but was tossed into the air, doing a strange diagonal log roll. He spun and landed several feet back, "nice." he growled and dove in low his sword aimed for his foes lower belly, yet at the last moment pulled back and shot in with his left and tried to punch the dwarf. Yet the dwarf was kick and easily dodged it. They went one on one for several minutes until Nihelm darted backwards, panting slightly. He knew that the Dwarf was at least his equal. So he thrust his left hand out ward, palm out.
***Ring Action***
The tall mans hair blew in the wind as he stood there, his hand out and his sword at his side. A white halo flared up around his body, it looked as if it were bright white flames, yet no heat was emitted from them. Suddenly white tendrels darted outward and struck Wind Walker, although he struck out with axe and foot, the lines of energy could not be touched. As the tendrels contacted the dwarf, the two combatants became as one, they saw each others pasts, their thoughts, their desires. Yet, Nihelm was skilled with the power of spirit, so he pulled his foes soul out and down. They travelled at teh speed of thought to a plane of darkness and fire. The plane of Morgoth (sp?). He showed him pain and torment, fear, agony. Suddenly a voiceless voice came into the dwarfs mind you may be stronger dwarf in body, but can you suffer the tragedys of the Dark Plane? I have been here before I can fight off the terror and pain, but is your will enough to stand against all that is dark and vile? Can you survive? Nihelm held him there for a time uncounted, whether it was moments or a millenia, none could tell, for here time has no meaning. The only meaning is death. The darkness closed in about them, about their souls, about their thoughts, they could not escape. Yet as soon as it had happened it was over. They had returned, the white flames gone and Nihelm fell to one knee, yet he held his sword at ready.
***End Ring Action***
He knew that if the battle ensued surely he would fall. . .

In the fading light of dusk, a blazing star streaked through the night, coming lightly to rest within the arena. The aura of white fire seemed to flare brighter for a moment, then it slowly dimmed and faded, leaving a tall, black-haired elven woman dressed in a green tunic and skirt, with a green cloak over all.

Tossing her head, she looked around. Her eyes narrowed at the sight of the fighting that was already begun, and she strode over, right hand on the hilt of her sword. On her other hand there sparkled a ring, like a star come to rest on her hand.

A strong, whirling wind blew towards her, billowing out her cloak. She stood still as stone, unflinching as the wind passed. Looking at the two fighting she noticed something odd. Both of them seemed to be in a trance, their eyes blank and dark. Shivering, she got out of the way, to sit by G_E on the rock.

G_E still gripped her dagger tightly. The man seemed to be entranced with the fight, but one never knew.

Suddenly there came a bright light behind her and she whipped around, dagger at the ready to see a young elf-woman with ebony hair. She smiled slightly in G_E's way, peered at the battle as a gust of wind billowed through her cloak, then slowly made her way over to sit beside G_E.

Relaxing a bit, she eased the dagger back into it's sheath a little ways. Surly he wouldn't try anything now that there were two of them?

Turning back to the spar, she could see that the taller man had begun to use his ring. She wondered who was more likely to win this spar...they both seemed equally strong. She'd just have to wait and see...

After filling the pouch he walked over to the now two ladys watching the fight.

"Hello there, I am Storm Crow"

"Hello, Storm Crow," said Aramel absently. She was still watching the two sparrers. Looking around the arena, she wondered how many there were. She waited impatiently for them to arrive.

Suddenly a thought struck her. "How will we tell each other apart? Maybe we should raise banners. Everyone who's good raise a white one, everyone who's bad raise a black one, and everyone who's neutral use defualt. Only most people won't be too happy about it."

Greetings,

Please make sure that this thread becomes/is a RP story as opposed to just being a contest of sorts. We've had other wonderful stories evolve out of battles and tournaments, so that if that is where you are going, I can't wait to read it. G_E watched warily as the man got up and came over to where she and Aramel were sitting.

"Hello, I am StormCrow Green" he said, offering his hand.

Although still a little skeptical, she let her dagger drop back into it's sheath and reached out to shake his hand. When her hand met his, he leaned down and kissed it, bowing slightly. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all, she thought.

"I'm Galadriel_elanor" she said a little meekly, the smallest of grins creeping on her face.

"Hail, worthy enemy. Your power is strong!" shouted Wind Walker as he regained his strength. "I have see from you what I need," he bowed. Nihelm seemed ready for more, but WW had another adgenda...
"Hail, Storm Crow, Aramel, and Galadriel! You have entered the battlegrounds of the War." The dwarf swung his right hand outwards, encompassing the whole arena. "You may go to places of peace, but this is a place of duels, passion, and thunder."

"Wind Walker! Will we continue, or are you just going to talk!" shouted Nihelm. He brought his sword up as his full strength returned. In the mean time, the others seemed between content to watch and mildly provoked, by his statement...

I may have finally stirred something up, as long as they don't ban together to strongly, tho. I will eventually break them all...

WW turned back to Nihelm, "I am ready, but we practice no longer." He brought his axe up in front of him, it will be a long night...

Thinking of what was just said Storm spoke
" we need a camp to talk and decide things. The banners will be held by who?"
"since this is now dueling ground where shall we go from here?"
while talking Storm more than once glanced at the woman in green.

Storm started to look around for a good place that was not still dueling ground to set up a camp. Maybe someplace high to see around.
"No more practice? Then we fight. . ." Nihelm removed his tunic to show a shining shirt of mail. He pulled from his pack a tall silver helm and a long blue sir coat which he placed over top his mail, "FOR DOL AMROTH!!" He shouted his war cry and charged the battle ready dwarf, his sword pointed forward in his right hand his left hand shining brightly. He swept his sword down in a powerful blow, it crashed into his foes own weapon. Holding his blade in a two handed grip he swung and parried, his sword arm pounding with all it was worth.

Aramel fretted. Where were the others? Were they just going to duel here for an infinite amount of time? She did not know. As it seemed, nothing was happening other than that Wind Walker and Nihelm were dueling.

If you want something to be done, do it yourself. That was what her friends had always told her.

****RING ACTION*****

She walked into the middle of the ring and unsheathed her sword with a rasp of steel. She lifted her left hand, and from it a clear light as the light of stars emanated, envoloping her, shining around her like a halo. She raised her sword, and light rushed into it, as if it were no more than a crystal shell, a lamp that it could fill. The sword blazed, shining white, terrible and beautiful as the rays of the sun upon Oiolosse's everlasting snow. The whole arena lit with a flash, then went dark again. The light within the sword, the light all around her dimmed until it was barely palpable. The earth seemed to release an intaken breath as dusk's shadows came again. From the sword and the ring, and Aramel herself, though, the light still shone, strong and steady.

****END RING ACTION****

"Who will fight with me?" Her voice rang through the arena.

Wind Walker and Nihelm exchanged blows back and forth. The dwarf could take quite a beating, but this was relentless. He decided a risky move. he gave the next blow to his opponent, and caught his sword directly on top of his axe. The blow was hard, and solid, just as the dwarf expected. He feinted beneath it, dropping to one knee and guiding the sword to the ground with is axe.
Nihelm's follow through was good, but his recovery was just as good. His blade only went an inch into the dirt before he began to recover it. But that wan an inch too many, for the dwarf came up almost as fast as the sword went down. His axe had gone, too, but his fist was ready, delivering a sharp blow to the other's stomach. Nihelm felt the burn of his hard fist. The dwarf knew he wasn't going to get away with that, but he could get handle it, if Aramel didn't give him interfere in Nihelm's favor...

Like a boulder, the dwarfs fist crashed into Nihelms stomach, catching a couple ribs in the process. He was lifted off the ground a bit but slammed his forhead crashing down onto the dwarfs face. Blood spattered, and Nihelm could taste it, was it his or his foes; he could not tell. The warrior pushed himself away, gasping for air. As he crawled away he planted a firm kick to the dwarfs. . . he could not be sure what he hit, or if he just hit the ground. Disoriented and badly winded he scurried away, bringing his sword up in a meager defence.

A ragged shout sounded behind her. Aramel spun around, to see Wind Walker advancing on Nihelm, axe regained. She frowned. This was getting out of hand. If something wasn't done, Nihelm would go down in a minute or two. WW, she saw, was going to be merciless.

She smiled bitterly at herself. You asked for war. Now you've got it. But is it right and honourable to interfere in a duel? This is a war, she reminded herself. Fight or die. Raising her sword she rushed into the fray. To her great surprise, WW was not completely unprepared. Of a sudden he swept his axe around, and it was only by elven agility that she escaped the blow. WW was not expecting that, as the swing took him a little off balance. Unwilling to follow up on that, Aramel stepped slightly back, looking at Nihelm, then regretted it as the glittering axe flashed down. Barely catching it enough to turn the edge with her sword, she could only watch helplessly as the heavy flat landed a bruising blow upon her shoulder, knocking her to the ground. WW advanced on her with his axe...

(OOC: Well, you suggested it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0> Don't hit me too hard, I've barely begun...)

Walking a little distance away from the fighting Storm started to draw big squares on the ground where it was not too rocky.
when done with that Storm stood in one of the squares.

*******RING ACTION*******
his ring glowed green as he rose his hand. Trees started to grow in the squares near storm and on the other side of the drawn squares.
The trees stopped growing when they were around storms height.
*******END RING ACTION*******

Each tree was a little different. The trees on the farther side looked dead and had glowing red eyes, and the trees on Storms side where more green and had glowing green eyes
There were also a difference in the trees of Storm Crow.
The eight trees in front of storm were a little shorter and looked young. The trees on bother corners were more wide, but still short. Also they had staves with castle turrets on them. The next two trees inward were riding on small tree horses and had lances. Then the next two inward from the horse riders wore pointy hats made of moss and magic staves of twisted wood. The tree on the right of Storm was not actually a tree but a dryad with daggers for weapons, but she gave off a magic aura. Storm as usual had his sword.
The dark twisted on the other side looked the same but very dark.
In the place of Storm on that other side stood a tall dark twisted tree with a crown. He held a great sword that glowed red with fire. You could see the heat which made everything behind it blur.
Then all the trees on Storm's side creaking and groaning turned toward storm. The same happened with the twisted king.
"lets begin" Storm said "lets begin" repeated the twisted king in a old voice that sounded like fire crackling.
"pawn go forward one" Storm Said. The little tree in front of Storm walked forward with the sound of rustling leaves.
G_E watched as WW came at Aramel swiftly, swinging his axe from side to side as she nimbly blocked his attacks. Nihelm was across the arena, apparently trying to catch his breath, and she noticed that the man called Stormcrow was working some kind of magic with his ring.

WW suddenly brought his axe down hard on Aramel and she blocked, but he was forcing her to the ground - he was more powerful then her. Having just about enough of this, G_E reached into one of her belts and pulled out a dagger. Taking careful aim, she let it fly from her grip and watched as it soared through the air, passing just in front of the dwarf's nose and hitting a tree a few meters away. The shaft dug into the wood and stayed there as the dwarf flinched and stepped back to glare at her.

She reclined where she was sitting, a devilish grin on her face. "You do understand, master dwarf, that I could not let you go on any further." she called down to him.

He scowled at her. She had looked so innocent before, now he was just beginning to realize her strength and the way her mind worked. "Very well," he growled and turned back to her.

"Don't try that again," she retorted, throwing the other knife into the air, and catching its handle as it came back down. "I still have one more."

Nihelm gritted his teeth and ran toward the Dwarf, his sword held high. As he came up behind him, he didnt slide his blade into his foes back but instead stood by his side, eyeing these new chanllengers. "Its time to choose sides my stout friend, it appears that there are enemies on all sides, yet I am not your enemy. Shall you stand by me and fight or shall you fall to these nay-sayers, those who would interfere in a duel of honour? I say stand by me, and be victorious!! With the power of the winds and the strength of soul we will stand strong!" He pointed his blade at dagger wielding woman, "toss that blade and you shall taste the cold hard edge of my steel! And you she-elf!" He motioned to Aramel, "it was not your place to intervene! You have shamed me by doing so, now it appears you are my enemy!" His gaze shifted to the living forest and the man within, "and to you Storm Crow, I say stay thy hand! For tis not your battle, lest you wish to face to power of Essence!" Nihelm, in all his battered and bloodied state was yet an impressive figure, his silver mail glinting in the light, and his tall helm shining brightly. His gaze was cold and hard, that of a warrior, and his stance was proud. Never had he faced such foes before, yet he stood against them without fear.

"You have honored me in battle, and I believe you may honor me as an ally now! Aramel, G_E, your challenge is met. Step forth and fight, fot that is what you wish, is it not?" said WW. He looked up at his new ally beside him, he wasn't sure if he trusted the other, but he would have to for now.
Gripping his axe tightly as G_E and Aramel stood together, StormCrow even looked ofer from his 'chess game' to see what was going on. He looked in time to see the four converging. Nihelm's blade came down hard on the recovering Aramel's blade. She parried the blow, but she had not full recovered, and was unable to meet it with an attack of her own, she would have to get creative, and fast. WW went after G_E, she nimbly dodged his axe blade, but was unable to get a clear fix on him to throw her blade. His arms began to fell leaden though, and he began to wonder if he should call help...

Aramel, to say the least, felt annoyed and angry. She was just trying to help. Blocking Nihelm's ferocious attacks, she wished she'd just left him to his own devices. See how honourable he felt, once he was groaning in the dust with an axe-wound.

Shaking such thoughts out of her head, she concentrated on the fight. Nihelm was meeting blade with blade, trying to force her down with his superior strength. She would have to be fast, if she wanted to get out of this fix. Searching her mind, she chose her tactic. Without warning, she broke the hold, dropping and rolling. Nihelm's blade sank into the earth an inch from her ear. She sprang up as soon as she could, breathing hard and gripping her sword tightly. She started doing the last thing Nihelm expected her to; she started singing.

Her song was smooth, hypnotic, almost crooning. It was lulling and somehow thick as syrup. It spoke of the nothingness of time, how centuries could pass as the blink of an eye, and everything yet remain unchanged. Relax, it seemed to say, What need is there to hurry when all eternity is here? Rest and be at peace. The air seemed to grow warmer, and to the ear it seemed to be filled with buzzing insects as of a hot summer day. Slow, rhythmetic and soothing, the song continued, until all that Nihelm saw was a sunny day, peaceful and quiet, beckoning slumber. With the song sounding loud in his ears, he fell to the ground in a deep sleep.
