Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

Postby wind_walker » Thu Oct 02, 2003 8:18 pm

Welcome to the War of the Rings!

Calling all Ring Bearers! Prepare your Rings for Battle! The Rings you have acquired from The Rings Guild now can show their full power! Post your character profiles here. The Rings Guild does not permit intense Ring Battles so here is were they are to be held. Read the rules and guidelines below so that you know how to wield your Ring's power properly. Also, note that this thread, as a part of the Prancing Pony is folowing an underlying story which is directly related to Tolkien's Middle Earth.

Rules and Guidelines

1) The Rules and Guidelines of this forum must be followed.
2) Ring bearers may only have one Ring, however if needed, they may use or borrow Rings with the Ring bearers permission. No one may have the same exact Ring!
3) No one may kill or take control over another character or his/her ring. No one can have a ring of ultimate power, meaning a ring bearer can only use the power assigned to that ring.
4) If a ring bearer tries to exceed his/her rings power the master ring bearers can take the ring away.
5) When posting in the RP thread make sure you use **********RING ACTION*********** before you post what the ring is doing and ********** END RING ACTION*********** after you post what the ring is doing. This way the readers will know when you are using the ring and when you are not.

These rules are derived from the rules at The Rings Guild. Stop by there to acquire a ring and then come here to use it in battle.

Please post a copy of you bio here so it can be added to the master list. (Note that this is in the format of a Microsoft Word document, contact me if you need a plain-text version) Here is a basic format of the bio:

Name:
Age:
Race:
Name of Ring:
Rings Elemental Power:
Side: Choose Either Good, Evil or Nuetral
Steed: If you have one
Weapon:
Secondary Weapon: If you have one
Skills:
Appearance: Meaning what your character looks like
History: Meaning where your character came from
Other: Anything I haven't mentioned that you feel is important

Great new OOC thread for the RP windwalker - <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I find all the guidelines to be correct and in compliance with the Guild's Guidelines! Great work! I hope more MasterRingholders will admire your work here!!

NOTE:
1. Be sure to also indicate that this RP is in the Pony, and RP here, should be geared towards Middle Earth and its overall style. I just dont want this to be about the Rings only or battles - We are all Tolkien fans and i think it would just be nice to remind RP'ers in this Forum. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
2. Add a link to the Yahoo Group - Those that join can utilize the Ring history documents for RP reference..or picture shares...up to the limit anyway!! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Im off to see whats happened now! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0>

Enty-Kudos!!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>!!

I dont think that I'll be doing any more battling for some time, but I'll put mine up anyways.

Name: Nihelm

Race:Human

Age: 35

Description:Nihelm is a charasmatic individual, who enjoys a cup of good ale and fine company as much as he does slaying Uruks. He is a wanderer and a bit of a scholar, although he will often take upon the facade of cheery dope, his true nature is one of deep wisdom and experience. He takes great pride in his beard and moustache, which covers the front of his mouth and chin, though unlike Dwarfs he keeps his reletivly short. He wears a deep red cloak with a thin golden trim, a bleached white tunic beneath a black leather vest. His leather bracers are decorated with an ivy patern. Upon his right hand he has a single silver ring.

Name of Ring: Light-Ring of Spirit

Rings Elemental Power: The power of the human soul and all that carries therein. He can use it to send destruction against his enemies, or happines, warmth, wonder, and joy to his friends. Yet the greatest power of spirit is the power to heal and to strive forward, not in body but in will and essence.

Weapon: A long, broad bladed sword, a finely crafted crossbow

Skills: Sword play, sea-fairing abilities ie. read the winds, the tides, the stars, how to command a ship in battle etc. Battle Tactician. Survival skills.

Appearance: Tall, proud looking. Keen grey eyes, shoulder length dark brown hair. A short, thick beard, finely trimmed. Weathered. He walks with the easy gait of a hunter, someone who commands great wisdom, courage, and confidence.

History: Starting as a child, Nihelm spent most of his time on the ships of Dol Amroth and in the battle field. He was a soldier through and through, until he reached about the age of 20. He witnessed something which he was never spoken of to anyone, save one woman whom he had loved dearly. After what happened, he left Dol Amroth and travelled north, he wandered the world of middle earth and much of the land to the East. He speaks little of those long years of wandering. But it changed him, he gained much knowledge of the world and its peoples, and thus can easily read a persons reactions. While in the North he spent sometime with the Rangers or that region. They taught him of the wild, or its beasts, birds, and plants. Yet no matter where he travelled, from the halls of great kings, to a woodsmens hut, he has ever carried his past, his sword, and his honour

How do we make this a ME story? Or should we just move this to the Green Dragon?

Ooooh Shelob, I guess I'd have to be on her side.
Still not sure if I'll stay myself (An Isengaurdian Uruk) or play another race for this. No matter, the power of the ring will confuse people's perception of my appearance, so my race need not be apparent right away. I will still be traveling with my beloved wargs (the whole warg empathy thing is why the ring summoned me to it in the first place!) I will certianly be a lot more self-confident and a lot tougher here than in LFI or Angmar Rising. I mean, I've got a RING OF POWER now (da da da dum!). Look out a female orc with power, it's the end of the world as we know it!...
(see the Character Archives pg13, bottom, for my bio)

Well, I am mostly going to do small post because of all this homework I'm getting, or just other projects I need to finish.
One thing I still think is a little anoying is that everyone changes the land or place were at. In the first thread we were on some mountain with some trees in the distance then the trees got closer.
Don't mind me I just notice random things once in a while.

anyway...how about we are having this war to win a piece of land that has some very strong magic and some good ring making materials on it. To link it to ME I have no ideas yet.

Sorry about the lack of subtlety there, but nothing gets Thread-Stalkers attention like one-line posts. I edited out the silly italics, the wee small hours of the graveyard shift do strange things to your sense of how much is too much (the italics were definitly too much!) here's a link to T.S. thread on how to avoid one line posts... if I can get it to work...
How to avoid the dreaded One Line Post in an RP

Aramel - I wrote my post from the viewpoint that it happened after everyone had left the arena/clearing. In other words...only I and maybe WW know this is happening, but you guys don't. Still continue on with your morning activities...just take into fact that your character didn't whitness this while you were gone.

Did that mke sense? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

We are on probation, and quite frankly, I think that sucks. Its because of one/two/three line posts. And yes, it is a rule here:
"No one liners are allowed. We are trying to keep the Role Playing up to certain standards, no matter what the storyline. One liners do not advance the story, enhance anyone's character and you do not give anything back to the other player's so that they can go forward. To help avoid One Liners, check out How to Avoid the Dreaded One-Liner (I have posted this here also in another post)."

sorry, i will try and keep feeding story elements into this , but the story is a compilitaion of everyone's efforts, this is a Guild run story...
Now, if your post is just two or three lines, wait til you cna write more, then post. i don't mean to nag, but Ulugz made a good point that our 'one-liners' got the attention of the mods, and not in a good way...

well, i'm sorry if that sounded mean, but it needed said...directly.

now, if you want some elements to work with... here is some stuff:
1. WW is a 'General' or equivilant, with many orcs at his disposal...
2. these are Mordor orcs...
3. there is a higer power who wants the Rings of Power and their bearers under his/her control or dead...

and that sould be enough for you all to stay busy and content for a while...

-WW

Ok, here's the deal...I just had this radical idea for my character that will actually pitch the thread forward and hoefully get more people posing.

I don't really like to answer my own post (even if there's only one between it), but I'm gonna do it either way. Enjoy! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I posted my prfile in the other OOC, so here it is in the new one:

Name: Galadriel_elanor (sometimes called G_E or Elanor)
Age: 1011
Race: Elf
Gender: Female
Name of Ring: "Anwa" the Light Ring of Honesty and Sincerity.
Rings Elemental Power: To spread peace, love and joy to all who behold it's power. Also has the ability to tell truth from lies and heal.
Side: Good
Weapon(s): Bow, and two two-inch elven daggers.
Skills: Intreperting others emotions and giving loving kindness to those in need. Deadly aim with a bow.
Appearance: Tall and average in stature. Long, naturally curly chestnut-colored hair, with vivid blue eyes. Wears a sapphire pendant given to her at a young age. Wears mainly blue-grey colored riding clothes, but is known on occasion to dress up in a gown.
History: Hails from Rivendell, a maiden who wanted to travel the world and spread her kindness to all in hopes to make Middle Earth a happier, more prosperous place to dwell.

Also, WW, what is this so called "breaker" you're going to use against me in the RPG? Cn you give me a little info on it just in case I need to post something about it before help arrives? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

the 'breaker' is exacly what it sounds like. a torturer to break you, or more directly, your mind. he (probably an orc) will attempt to beak you so that you become a servent of WW. he will use andy physical means necessary, but only if they have an immediate result (prefers a whip over starvation cause it make the point more imediately). I'll try and introduce him soon.

-WW

Nihelm, sorry if I stomped on you a bit there, but I couldn't let the babies die. The Grey-one has a spectacularly tragic end planned in another RP, and the pups are too much a part of my character. Besides I think Wind Walker has something special in mind for you... heh, heh.

P.S. sorry i didn't use ****ring action****, but it really broke up the flow of the story. 'Sides I think the ring's action is kinda obvious.

Ulugz, great post, but it is kind of a Guild thing to use the "Begin/End Ring Action" thing. Actually (I havn't enforced these) it is a rule on post 1 that you do use them. Don't worry about editing it in, just try and include them next time.
Oh and you don't need to re-post your bios, I have them all form the old thread and they are at the link on the first post. and Ulugz, where did you say your bio was? I know you mentionedit, but I must have missed it.

Someone come to the 2 poor ring bearers' rescue... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

-WW
