This thread won't be obsolete. I predict it will turn into a center for discussion and debate between all those who have seen ROTK by tomorrow. Just so it can get locked after 380 more posts? I just saw ROTK this afternoon and I'm seeing it again tonight (!). It is superb. There are just two flaws that I noted: 1. The film just begs for more time. The cuts necessary to limit viewing time to less than 3.5 hours were too obvious sometimes. 2. The scene after Aragorn's coronation, with Arwen hiding behind the banner before revealing herself was corny, too corny IMO. Straight out of a typical Hollywood melodrama. Other than the above the film was just bliss. The sequence of the successive lighting of the beacons was one of the most beautiful, if not THE most beautiful, things I had ever seen on screen. Amazing.

Hi I am Ian hughes ... and i was cast as Beregond. but for some reason the charater was changed to Irolas by the time the movie came out. i shot my scenes two years ago and have been waiting to see if i was going to make the final cut! Just as a Question... Me and some friends made a short film before the LOTR started shooting and before i was cast, about three guys who try to get a part in LOTR by digging a hole in Peter Jacksons Lawn. they get the wrong Peter Jackson but end up nearly running over Peter Jackson at the end of the film . It is Very silly and funny and we made it on the cheep but it looks great and we asked if peter wanted to be in it and he said yes !!!! So he plays him self in a cameo at the end.it also stars Peter Tait, Stephen Ure (who played Orks!) and John Lee. we are thinking of relesing it do you think this is some thing fans would want in their colections? PETER JACKSON

Irolas, I may be falling for a hoax here, but if it is in fact you, congratulations on making the cut! I thought you did a great job adding a bit of true Gondorian feeling to your scenes. Sorry it has taken a while to reply . i didnt know anyone had responded. i am still finding the scale of the web site a bit daunting! Yes it is Me (ian Hughes) bit hard to prove but check out <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.aucklandactors.co.nz">http://www.aucklandactors.co.nz</A> is my agent. As to the answer to the Stephen Ure question. Gorbag, i think but to be honest it has been a while since i have spoken to Stephen! Pretty much all of the stuff i shoot is in the film. They cut one line "open the gates". Which in hindsight i can understand! The change of Character name? I have no idea why ... Bogans will be available soon. I will post someting about it. we are setting up a web site <A TARGET="_blank" HREF="http://www.bogans.co.nz">http://www.bogans.co.nz</A> As far as i know Peter Jackson has only appered in one other film besides ours (and his own - of course!) He agreed to be in our film after we sent him a cut of it with a gap that said - Peter Jackson goes here! Love to be part of the data base!

Good to hear from you, Mr Hughes. Maybe Beregond became Irolas because the character isn't "really" Beregond, in that he doesn't have the same role as in the book. Calling the character Irolas is like a homage to Beregond, because Iorlas was the name of Beregond's brother (or brother-in-law) in the book. (I wonder why PJ etc. decided to name minor characters after characters mentioned in passing from the book, but switching two of the letters? Madril being named after Mardil The Good Steward, and now Irolas. Why not just keep the names as they are?)

Wow...can you guys believe this thread's almost a year old?? I remember eagerly checking the board often during last year's Thanksgiving weekend, hoping for more of Marty's wonderful spoiler nuggets...and now here we are, waiting for the EE!

Just thought I'd bump it for nostalgia's sake, since we're coming up to the time when, last year, everything started to kick into gear for the roll-out of the last film. The anticipation was incredible!

And I was just wondering...hey Marty, how are all those new babies doing?

Most are nearing their three month birthdays.

Seeing this thread brings back some of the nostalgia I expressed in my 2004 Apathy thread of about a month ago. Last night, I was driving right past The Clarity screening room where I saw an advanced screening of FOTR two weeks before its release back in '01. What a bitter sweet surprise to find this thread resurrected the very next day. In six days, it will have been a year since its birth.

Every time I see "Semuta" I instinctively think "Hamatula" a Ba'atezu (demon cum 'monster') from Dungeons and Dragons...

What's really amazing to me is that, in just a little over three weeks from now, we'll have the opportunity to see all the cut scenes that we were so upset about losing last year ("I have to wait a whole year to see Faramir romance Eowyn?? But that's such a long time from now!!").

And Marty, I'd just like to take this opportunity to once more say a big ol' Thanks!! for all of your hard work and generosity in sharing your good fortune with us. You helped to make the release of the movies a lot more exciting for us spoiler-starved fans!!

Marty, not only was this thread exciting, at times hilarious, and amazing to follow, it helped prepare me for what was to be a terrible case of First Viewing Syndrome. If I had not been fore-warned of some scenes, I may have just driven off a freeway ramp instead of driving home, numbed, but able to somehow cope. By my third viewing, I had recovered, but this thread was a life-saver.

Will you be around for The Hobbit?
