RPers Anonymous *IT'S ALIVE!*

The varied peoples of Middle-earth at times found unity in their pursuits, and all too often experienced deep rifts. Engage in lively conversations as we banter about the differences between the Alliances, and recruit for our People as well. Remember, keep it friendly.

Do you think it is okay/ethical for the players to take over the plot of an RP if its originator has disappeared?

Yes! Keep it going!

No. The story belongs to the originator. And besides, he/she could come back.

Hello, and welcome to the guild for those of us who love to RP so much that it has become something all-consuming! We find our daily lives frequently interrupted by ponderings about where our RPs will go next, our characters' histories, and the relationships these fictional individuals are developing between themselves. We lose ourselves in the worlds of roleplay, because sometimes it's a better place to be than good 'ol Planet Earth. We tell ourselves we can stop playing any time we like...and then go off to join another RP in the Prancing Pony.

Well, this is a place to discuss our RPing passions. What blunders have you made? What triumphs? Which "alter ego" is the one who represents you best? Which RP was the most satisfying? The least? Vent your frustrations, share your joys, work out your problems, ask questions all the time, and above all, enjoy yourself! Also, remember that this guild is for the kinds of RPs found on this site--collaborative storywriting, not "levelling" games.

In this guild there will (of course!) be light roleplaying allowed, to help us practice and develop our characters. RP newbies are also gladly welcomed, if they would like to get their feet wet and learn some tips from those of us who have traversed the bumpy road of n00bdom.

To join, simply tell us a little about your RPing passion--why is it so important to you?--and tell us a little (to start with) about your alter egos. Then, your name and the names of your characters will be placed upon the list of Guild Members in the proper category. Which category you go in depends on the number of RPs you are generally writing in at any given time, so you can move around if you like.

Ahem...

When we see those
two letters R and P
we jump up and cheer
and shout out "yippy!"

Those two letters, you see,
stand for "Role Play"
It's something where you can be
a new character each day.

This thread is for those of us
who love Role Playing to bits,
when we can't post our parts
we feel down in the pits.

So come in and join us
we're not that insane
we just get crazy when we hear
"Role Play Story or Game!"

Hey Aiwe!

I believe I am also a hopeless RP'ing addict - and here's why...

Rp'ing is important to me, because it lets me live, just for a while (or all day, if I'm that way inclined <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>) in the shoes of someone else. Someone smarter, faster and stronger than me, who makes monumental mistakes every now and then but still (well, mostly <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>) muddles through somehow. I'm in another world, and I love it!

My current Characters:

Saeran Arthelion (Fellowship of the Palantiri)

Thyren (Entwives)

Rowan Blackthorn (Forsaken)

Saeran Arthelion (Retaking of Lebennin)

Saeran Arthelion (Court of Fools)

And other characters: Raca Arthelion (yup, my most used surname <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>), Lanuviel Moranneg.

That's not to mention other sites! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Hey Aiwe!!

Could I humbley join?! I've only started RPing, but I have to say I love it! I've been checking out all kinds of RPs only thing is I'm real picky, and I take so long to choose.

Anyway, the current characters are:
Salhir,
Dalkin (no wait I killed him off yesterday! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-crying.gif"border=0>)
Korvin

I also had a character who I really liked but the RP stopped so I had no chance to play him. It was Caucas the werwolf mage. I loved the guy, I liked his story and all, so I guess I might put him into some other RP.

As you probably noticed, most of my characters are for some reson guys, I don't know why, I guess I'm (pathetically) trying to be original and not have to many strong, beautifull women fighters (though I will no daubt come back to those too).

Anyway, I love RPing just as I like writing, you have the power to create something, and whatch over everything it does. You know what I mean? Revenge of mortality I guess...

My favorite part is actually creating the characters. I have pretty much the most fun when I create my char and make up their bios and stuff.
Hi!<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
I'm a complete RP addict. I love it because I love writing and I love acting, RPing is almost a mix of both. It lets you be other characters for a little while and you can create different characters and situations and see things from a different point of veiw. The great thing is that you never know exactly what other people will write.

Ok I have so many characters I'll only write down the ones I am currently using or I use most often. I haven't ever used some of my characters so I won't write them down but they are linked to some of the others.

The characters from the two RPs I am writing in now are:

Raine Dorminue - The Court of Fools
Amriya (Narloth Elena) - Trust

Other main alter egos:

Drina
Arwen
Dahlia
Alexa Rhymer
Erin Larsen
Aida Sandrial
Welcome everybody! So many familiar usernames <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>... I think I'm in RPs with all of you guys! Anyway, I'll go and put you all up on the List of Members right now.

Lady_Aremin, welcome to the Wonderful World of Arpy! Please let us know what's giving you trouble, and then we can start helping you out. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0> Also, could you please post a list of your characters so I can put them by your name on the List? Thanks!

--Aiwe

Ha the only trouble I'm having is staying away from the computer for long stretches of time (2 hours...). The only character I use as of now is Lady Aremin, niece of Elrond and an elf-lady of Lothlorien.

I have a new one that I might be using soon though: Reladan, a 23 year old Rohirrim from Edoras. I'll use him as a character when I get on my new username> One_Lone_Rohirrim.

Haha! I feel your pain... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> What works for me is setting time limits. Here's my schedule, which (sometimes <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> ) works:

Lunch break: TORC & eat.

Get home from school: Can TORC until 4:00 p.m., then must start homework. No more TORC until the stuff due the next day is finished.

You might try working out something like this for yourself. I find it works best if I write it down somewhere, like a daily planner, so that I don't say to myself, "Well, how 'bout I TORC until five...." Y'know?

Hope that helps a little.

--Aiwe

Hullo, Aiwe. You can't exactly call me a newbie, but I'm only in one RP: Entwives, where you know me as Théodred, the hobbit with the funny background.

I would like to join a few more, and some of the ones you guys are in look interesting. Can you point me to the threads and their OCC's, and maybe help me out a bit?

Thankee!

~Lothloriel, a.k.a. Théodred, son of Faramir, son of Meriadoc of the Shire.

Hello Loth! I'll put you up on the List in just a minute.

Kaya, since I apparently didn't make it clear enough by the tongue-in-cheek style of my introductory post, I'll try and clarify something here. This is not meant as a particularly serious guild. It is meant to be lighthearted and newbie-friendly. It is also a haven and a support group for RP "addicts"--hence the name, "RPers Anonymous," a nod to the Alchoholics Anonymous support group and not an indication that you need to be anonymous here unless you really want to.

If you are the kind of addict that I am, then quality is extremely important to me (Check out some my posts, if you don't believe me. The links in my sig are a good place to start). However, it is the quantity bit that often makes me feel as though I ought to join a twelve-step program. You can be in one very serious RP and be extremely devoted to it, sure, put you will probably still be "just dabbling" when it comes to your fanaticism level, regardless of your RP experience/skill level. At this Guild, it's not about a "race" of any sort, but our all-consuming passion for RPs which often leads us to be unsatisfied with only one or two games at a time.

I've made such categories as "just dabbling" and "Drowning and rather enjoying the sensation" to emphasize the less-than-serious nature of this guild and also to help beggining addicts to feel a little more comfortable through the use of humor. But, since you brought it up, I shall put it to the other members for a vote: Would you, the members, prefer the List to stay as it is with the same categories, or would you prefer me to change it to a simple list with no categories? Please respond at your earliest convenience so that we can settle this matter and get onto other matters. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

I hope I have adequately addressed your concerns, Kaya. Please remember that the RPA Guild doors are always open if you wish to join. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Also, if you don't mind, I'd like to put this particular conversation up on the first post, in a "Letters to the Editor" section, so that others who have the same questions as you can have them answered without having to read through the thread. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

--Aiwe

Thanks for responding so quick, you guys! And I'm glad you like it. We'll just wait a little longer and see what the others think too, OK?

Loth, I saw your new siggy-- I like! A fine tribute to your RP dependency.

Arenial, I just thought somebody crazy enough to be in 13 RPs at once deserved special recognition. And, possibly, special treatment. Thanks Aiwe. I'm just crazy in general, so it's only fitting I'd be in 13 at once. (except, a few of 'em aren't really moving at all at the moment. Tis a shame)

Ren

Qwertymoo steps through the marble archway. Above he reads the inscription “RPers Anon. “Should I really be here?” Qwertymoo thinks, quickly finds his worries drifting away like smoke on the wind: the room is starting to fill up with a couple of fellow Rpers he’s been around, and a couple that he’s never met before.

Looking at the wealth of talent that eminates inside of the room, Qwertymoo bows to those in attendance and takes a seat.

Aiwe stands up and with open hand points toward Qwertymoo, “Please newcomer to our humble dwelling, come up to the stand and introduce yourself.” Aiwe smiles as his invitation lingers for a mere moment as Qwertymoo rises from his seat and walks to the front of the enclave.

The closer he approaches the front the calmer the atmosphere is in the room - the carpeted floor, plush and blue, dulls out the harsh sounds of footfall that would normally be an irritant of stress to any newcomer. “There’s a feeling of harmony here,” thinks Qwertymoo. “I’ll be alright.”

Shaking the hand that had extended from Aiwe, Qwertymoo turns to face those assembled - as he faces the tiniest of butterflies in his stomach - and says, “Hi. My name is Qwertymoo, and I’ve been an Rper for about two weeks.”

The responses from those seated almost bowls Qwertymoo over as they all say, “Hi Qwertymoo, and welcome.”

Aiwe, this is interesting.

I know I joked about you having so many alter egos in one of those OOCs, and I heartfully apologize - although it was only in fun…

Suddenly I find myself ‘in’ two Rps, ‘thinking’ of getting involved in a third, and ‘starting’ one of my own in an effort to help beginners (heck I’m one myself, who am I to talk) get the hang of this in an actual RP - meant for critique.

I guess I’m hooked, addicted - PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!

Qwertymoo

p.s. Almost forgot the characters
Brickleboar Cutter - dwarf in exile
Taurgstone - son of Brickleboar
A (nameless as yet) White City guard about to turn traitor
Aw, that sounds pretty interesting Aiwe! Aare you still accepting characters in the Forsaken? If so I'll have to go post Caucas up! (Ah finally!)

About the lists, I honestly have to say, that I don't care. I guess it's kindof funny, and anyway, the amount of the characters will probably changing anyway...I dunno, you decide!
Cool, Myth! I'm sure you'll be seeing a bio of mine.....<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I've always wanted to start one of my own, but I can't seem to think of a good premise. It's not like writing normal stories, where you have a protagonist, antagonist, confidant, mentor figure, foils, etc. You have to have a premise where a large group of people can all be protagonists at once. Hats off to you Myth, for trying it! And to you too, Lan, for having succeeded! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

--Aiwe
Yes, that's the difficult bit. I don't know whether i'll succeed to quite the extent that Tetzel has in the CoF - what a creative idea! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Anyway, the thinking cap is on. Ready to battle the options... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Oh, and have a Merry Christmas everyone! <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Hey, myth, Aiwe, peoples, I've been pondering starting a RP where we go and restore the Mines of Moria. I don't want to do it all by myself, though...Anyone want to co-run it? If so, e-mail me at Nienor5678@hotmail.com and we'll talk about it.

Aiwe, <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> I wasn't expecting so-so MANY! Thank you! Now to get to work on them....
