My pleasure. Not that I had much to do with it. Here's to Chmiel!
Yes that one of Feanor has quite the spooky feel...appropriately spooky though. Fierce I would say.
She does do the Fëanorians wonderfully. They're
strength
really comes across. Since last night
And they prepared to die
has really grown on me. |

Her gallery
on Rolozo has been updated with some 16 new pieces.
I think I like
Elros and Elrond were taken captive
the best, though I have a weakness for that story and they're all wonderful.
Celebrimbor and Sauron
and
Then Maedhros alone stood aside
are just super cool.
There's also a few things on her
Homepage's Tolkien gallery
that I've never seen before.
>>
Wow! I hadn't seen these new ones. That picture of little Elros and Elrond carried off by Maglor and Maedhros is fantastic; the way Maedhros stiffly holds the weeping Elrond on the horse is a neat contrast to the gentle expression on Maglor's face as he cradles Elros...
I love her Boromir, and the pictures of him and Faramir together are great...

More updates from her homepage:

Caranthir and Haleth

Caranthir Portrait

Turgon, Idril and Maeglin

All very nice. I don't, however, really care for Turgon's crown. Looks like it could put out a few eyes.
It's nice to see someone drawing Idril, though. She definitely falls into the under illustrated category. |

Those new pictures are great. *drools at the male elves, especially Caranthir* True, Idril hasn't been portrayed too much, and I think Haleth hardly at all.
If you want to see her funnier side, look
here
. I've just spent some time laughing out loud at little Boromir's brilliant ideas... |

I like Chmiel's Eowyn the best, because all other Eowyns look either priggish, or bossy, or too weak, or too bloodthirsty.
Chmiel's is just right. Of course, Hildebrant's HoH Eowyn is good too, only we don't really get a look at her face.
at Chmiel's Boromir comics! |

I am overwhelmed by the choice of good looking men. I think I shall have a heart attack! lol
Boromir, of which I never had an entirely clear idea, probably because I never liked him much, took my breath away. He's gorgeous! and it's him, definitelym she got it completely right. Aragorn is THE Aragorn, Faramir is good too, though painted as a little brother, you can see where the love goes to
What to say now... I saw too many in too little time, and my mind is reeling. The Feanorians are so elvish words fail me .. The look on Caranthir as he appraises Haleth is a world on its own, and that must be art to be able to convey so many emotions in a single drawing. Maedhros is great, as befits Maedhros I especially like
this one
the eyyyyyyyyyyyyes
I was wondering if she inspired herself from Hugo Pratt, as some characters have more than a touch of Corto Maltese.
Luthien most definitely looks like Isabelle Adjani, and Maeglin on the battlements looks a bit like Michael Jackson unfortunately
Ha, I'm going to have to rest my eyes now........... to end this post I would like to say
thank god they don't look like the dang movie characters! At last!
not that I have anything against the aforementioned, they're absolutely great, but you know what I mean |

Thanks for the links, NienorNiniel! I had seen the newest comics before, but not some of the serious paintings.
Her Maeglin really makes me feel sorry for the guy. |

wow i just looked at all of her drawings, and they are soooooo good! I like her elves most of all. Other artists I really like are Jenny Dolfen, Anke Eissmann, John Howe, Alan Lee, and Ted Nasmith, and each one has something different I like. What I like in Chmiel's work is definitely her elves, especially Maedhros and Maglor. I think I should go back and look at the pictures again And her pics of Maeglin are great, I'll always picture Maeglin like that in my head when I read the book. I actually feel sorry for him now!
Also, I really like how Chmiel's artwork is very emotional, and while other artists like John Howe can really portray landscape well, she's great at characters. I can look at the pictures for hours, lol
now i'll go back and look at them again |

She is one of my favorite artists But mainly I post here just to say that
it would be the best if her own gallery was linked in the first post
, for there is more images than on Rolozo and I'm sure it is the first place where new images will appear |

Okay, I somehow managed to kill the Rolozo links, but the homepage is in. |

I took a look at the webpage linked in the first post and found that Ms. Chmiel has portrayed a few of Tolkien's better known couples, including a rather frisky Sam kissing Rosie on the neck. (I guess it was no mistake that they had 13 children! )
But why no Bombadil and Goldberry? This oversight should be amended pronto!
I agree, her work is quite nice. |

She updated her website again last fall (or late summer):
Tolkien Gallery
A particularly nice one:
First Meeting
(another version of Caranthir and Haleth)
Turgon on His Throne
drives home the point that she can do amazing things with just black and white.... |

Maeglin again! She is awesome at him
She has some
great
illustrations for the tale of Turin. I hope they will be used in a book at some point . Her Morwen is just
guh
.
Oh, and I had not seen the portrait of Denethor and Finduilas before - her pictures always tell a story!
Still no Tom Bombadil, though . Maybe you could request that she draw him with his pony Fatty Lumpkin? She does a great job with horses! |
