OOC: Hobbits Go To War

Pull out your pack and head on down to the Prancing Pony for some great Role Playing (try to stay in character)!

Postby Bragolancaion » Thu Jan 22, 2004 8:38 pm

This is the first RP I've "created" so bear with me. MODS if I'm doing something wrong or don't have enough info or anything just let me know. I know you still would if I didn't ask, but hey.

The story takes place in the year 1974-75 of the Third Age. The Witch King of Angmar is at war with Arnor, who Arvedui is the last ruling king, and has captured Fornost.

The Shire folk send their own archers in aid of King Arvedui (who is up north with the snowmen) to the battle of Fornost where The Witch King is ultimently defeated and chased to the Ettenmoors. It is said that the Hobbits never return. From what I've read it leaves everything flexible with the Hobbits.

I think that we can start in Hobbiton, where the Hobbits that are leaving are preparing to go. After they leave they meet some opposition along the way and eventually join with the Dunedain in the Battle of Fornost. After the battle anything could happen or we could call it a wrap.

The only thing I ask is stay true to the history. All I know is what I've read in the Appendices so if I'm wrong about anything please correct me. All are welcome, Newbies and Oldies alike.

Once we have enough people I'll start the story thread.

______________________________________________________________________

Here's my bio:

Name: Will Gamgee
Race: Hobbit
Age: 38

Description: Of course the height of a Hobbit with fiery red hair and blue eyes. Round face and fairly skinny for Hobbit standards.

Weapons & Clothing: The only weapons he carries are a plain wooden bow with his sweethearts name carved into it and a long silver sword (short sword if used by an man). A quiver full of arrows hangs on his brown leather belt holding up his brown trousers. A green tunic with a brown vest is covered by a brown wool cloak.

History: Will, like his many generations to come after him grandson, Samwise the Brave, is a gardener. Wishing for a time of peace where war doesn't effect him, he rises to the occasio like the Hobbits all do years from his time in LOTR. Volonteering to help fight in aid of King Arvedui, Will finds himself preparing to leave with other Hobbits of the Shire.

Personality: Will is very quiet and humble, but is a leader at heart. He doesn't get angry much, but when he does he blows up like any of Gandalfs fireworks.

God Bless

Sure Pip, you can join.

No, it's the Third Age. The Third Age started after the Last Alliance defeated Sauron and the One ring was lost. The Battle of Fornost took place a little over 1000 years before LOTR but it's still the Third Age.

God Bless

och, thank you <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

ok, I'm straigtened out, now. I was looking in the hobbit geneology thing and it's all in shire reckoning...and then I was looking in the tale of the years and that was in another type of 'reckoning.' I get confused easily...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0> not paying attention...

but anyways, I have a few ideas for my character...*goes off to find a name and such*

all righty, then.

Name: Nob Brandybuck
Age: 30
Height: same as all hobbits
Weapons: a bow and quiver of arrows, a sword (more like a dagger from the big people)
Appearance: curly dark brown hair, large brown eyes, tanned skin
Martial status: has a crush on a hobbit lass, Azaelia Took
Occupation: farming
Clothes: brown trousers, off white shirt with yellow embroidery along the edges of the cuffs and the neck. Sage Green vest (with a darker green embroidery along the edges) and a grey wool cape.

Bio/personality: Nob is a popular prankster among his friends, but is handy with his bow and arrow and is not afraid to go to the war. He has a crush on his best friend’s sister, and will show off in front of her. Even though he’s a prankster, he can be serious when need be. He works his father’s farm with his brother’s and dad.

I was reading a little bit more concerning the Battle of Fornost and found out that King Arvedui's son, Earnur brought a fleet of elves into Lindon and they marched on to Fornost. The Hobbits traveled with them. Should our group be a little late, or early, or should we go with the elves?

God Bless

Ah! I would like to join this RP, definintely, definitely. I have a character in mind -- I have already described her elsewhere, but I am going to have to alter her a little bit. Unfortunately I'm short on time at the minute and will return with a fuller description.

A journey in tandem with the elves might be enjoyable, and of course (practically speaking) would serve as a beckon to elf characters to join us. Elves and hobbits make good foils.

Here's a description of a character I contemplated using in another thread, but might perhaps be more at home in this one, with some alteration.

Name: Violetta Hornblower -- Letty for short
Age: she is in her early prime
Appearance: she has bright red-gold hair, blue-green eyes, and somewhat refined, elf-like facial features; she is slender for a hobbit (though her eating habits are very hobbit-like)
Clothing: dark green trousers and tunic, white blouse, black cloak. She also defies the convention of her people by wearing loose-fitting boots, which has led some of her neighbors to suspect that she might not be right in the head.
Personality: Letty will talk your ear off if you let her, but she is actually rather shy, feeling herself an outsider in the Shire. Her driving force is curiosity. Throughout all her conscious life, she has been driven to distraction with an intense longing to see the world beyond the Shire and to come to know its people. On sunny days she can usually be found perched near the top of a tree with a book in her lap, glancing from time to time from the pages to the distant horizon and back again. Her family has hopes that an early marriage might cure her wanderlust, but she wants nothing whatsoever to do with marriage or suitors. This could serve as a central motivator for her departure with the martial force.
Abilities: She can use a blade and shoot a cross-bow. In fact, her marksmanship is unparalleled.
I just read this story in Unfinished Tales! It's weird that I was thinking along the same lines, with the Hobbits and all... I was wondering what some of your ideas about 'some opposition' are. Unless we'll just fill in the blanks along the way. This sounds very intriguing, by the way <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

_Mith

Well, Mithnen, if you want to join, feel free. And about oppositoin...well The Witch-King had a great army so I though about maybe running into a few small groups of orcs or something.

Pip, (I guess that's your nick) It's in Appendix A, but I got most of my info from another book my friend has. He read it to me over the phone. That's where I got the info about the elves from Lindon. It says in the Tale Of Years year 1975 Earnur brings a fleet into Lindon and I thought that it was elves but wasn't sure, and he confirmed it.

God Bless

Well, I suppose you could start the story thread. Hopefully Lothy'll come back with a chara bio and we can get more players. Anywho, here's my chara's bio:

Name: Bungo Morrowdim

Gender: Male

Race: Hobbit

Age: 27

Appearance: He’s of typical Hobbit height, but slightly leaner than many other Hobbits. The hair on his head is dark curly brown, as is the hair on his feet. His eyes are bright green and sparkle at any mention of adventure.

History: Born and raised in Michel Delving, the largest township of the Shire, Bungo has always had an understanding of how the world works. His father owned an inn at the township’s center so Bungo has always been exposed to different kinds of people.

Personality: He’s always looking for an adventure and this fact often gets him into more trouble than he bargains for.

It's not very filled-in, but I just made this guy up. He'll grow with the story <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

_Mith

((And I just realized that the story's not in UT. I was getting the App. and UT mixed up because I've sort of been going back and forth.))

Mithy- you said that this story was in the unfinished tales? I can't find it anywhere! Are you sure it wasn't the Lost tales?

ANYWAYS...since I've read that thingy in the appendices, do I have to read the thing from the Lost (or unfinished) tales? And y'all can just fill me in on what's happening and I can do monkey see monkey do? I'm fairly good at that...<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>

good post Brago <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> love it <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Pip

We can use an elf at the moment. See ya.

Pip, I don't think you need to read anymore, but it wouldn't hurt if you do. Air is the one with the books that have all the info in them. Hopefully Air's parents will let Air (are we aloud telling people if we are male or female?) get on on a regular basis.

God Bless

Here's my bio:

Name- Airelanthir
Age- Around 4,000
Race- Elf
Gender- Male

Description- Pale gray eyes, jet black hair, seven feet tall, blind in his right eye, and missing two fingers on his right hand.

Weapons&Clothing- A scimitar and a spear.

Background- An elf born in Imladris near the time of Elrond's arrival in 1697 of the Second Age. Elrond took a special intrist in the child for most elves have blue eyes but Airalathir had pale gray almost white ones. Another unusual trait was his jet black hair. His parent's couldn't be found. When he grew up he became a skilled metal worker but gave up that proffesion to train in combat becoming daft in sword play. He fought in the battle of Dagorlad but it had a grevious toll. During a battle with a great number of orcs he was hit from behind. His armor withstood the blow but the impact drove his head forward into his sword thus he was blinded by his own blade. It left a terrible scar extending down across his cheekbone. In the same battle he lost two fingers on his right hand. After the loss of his sight in his right eye he had to retrain this time using a blindfold. Relying on sound only he bacame more skilled than before rarely using his sight instead fighting his battles with his eyes closed.

I finally got my elven bio together.

Name: Celebel (translation-Silver Star)
Age: He stopped keeping count at 10,000 (He is one of the first among the Children of Iluvatar)
Race: Elven
Gender: Male

Description: Celeb's hair flowd down to the middle of his back. It's light silver and in the sunlight it looks almost white. he is one of the fairest of all Elves being one of the first to walk in Middle-earth. He is tall, and lean, and agile, and sure footed like all elves. His eyes are deep green showing Ages of wisdom and hardship.

Weapons&Clothing: His only weapons are four daggers stuck in the back of his belt, and a silver sword given to him by Feanor when he first created swords in Valinor. Silver Star in elven script runs along the blade. His elven clothes are pure white, silver embroidery running along the neck and sleeves. He always wears a necklace given to him by Manwe. The symbol is a bright silver star which holds healing power.

Background: Being of the first born Celebel remembers ages long past and has only counted his age to 10,000. Basically he's gone through the trials and hardships of the ages long forgotten as well as the ages known to Men. He slain a Balrog during the overthrow of Morgoth. He now resides in Middle-earth waiting until peace finally comes at last to the land and only then will he sail into the west across the blue ocean that has beckoned him to travel its waters for ages.

Let's get this RP up and running. I'll post tomorrow. It's late here and I don't want to write a crappy post because i'm tired.

God Bless
