OOC thread : Darkness rising. Please read this first post entirely before posting anything else

This is the OOC thread for the Tolkien based Role Play which will be named: Darkness rising.
It owes a lot to Alandriel and her OOC thread for The Seekers and to SilverScribe and her introduction to Redemption. Thank you very much!

The actual RP thread - Darkness rising is up now.

This thread is for all OOC discussion concerning the storyline of the upcoming Role Play, character discussion or comments regarding IC posts. Please do not use it too often for spamming, hijacking or partying – we do have places for that too <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>.

Everybody is welcome in this RP, but when I feel it necessary as the originator of the thread, I will limit the number of writers and at least delay further characters coming in. I also reserve the right to refuse your character if it does not match the RP or the quality level that I want to maintain in here.

As soon as I know, I will add here a definite list of writers and characters with some basic information for each of them. Those of you with whom have already confirmed me their interest <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>, just do so here once more to help me keep the list updated.
More detailed information can be found in the next posts, which will also be regularly updated.

Cast:

Hades (mainly appearing on the boards under the name of nienor-niniel)
Taarisilme (written by ElPolloDiablo, who among others is also the writer of elengil)
Elenduath (written by earendil81)
Sfatha (written by Impenitent)

Alandriel
Erinhue
Nindalf (written by Dindraug)
Culanir (also known as Leoba on the boards)
Ulianor (written by TheDean)
Rhowaìn (written by Jaeniver)

Some rules to play nicely:

1.)All requests for joining have to posted in this thread. You can also contact me via e-mail: nienor-niniel@bluemail.ch or via yahoo IM, where my name is norniel. If I have not been in e-mail contact with you before, do not send attached documents, I will not open them.

2.) If you are interested in joining at some point, please make certain that you read the first and second post in this OCC, and the whole story (as it exists) up to that point. You will be asked to post a (more or less) brief character bio and physical description stats in this thread. Bio's (as relevant to this story) and short physical stats are requested simply for the purpose of helping everyone (posters and readers alike) keep the various participants/characters straight, and to introduce new members to the cast. Due to the nature of Hades, I might ask you sometimes more information about your character, but then I will use the mail for privacy.

3.) This Role Play is set in Middle Earth, year 9 of the fourth age, ten years after the War of the Rings. All characters have to be Middle Earth based and fit in that time set. This means also that the geographical, linguistic and cultural descriptions should respect Tolkien’s world – please no friendly dragons or Phoenix tears <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>. This may seem superfluous as it is a fantasy world, but I would want to keep it as coherent and logic as possible. This request also concerns the use and knowledge of “magic”. Hades himself may seem in many ways like a dark magical character – and as said the Professor in his writings, some faculties of the elves would have seemed magic for humans, even if the elves themselves would not have qualified them as such. Just try to keep things explainable, understandable – and don’t turn the whole story line round by one spell. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

4.) NO NETSPEAK, please. In the spirit of Tolkien, this site and this site's creators, please take the time to write out your posts in full English. Punctuation, spelling and grammar mistakes happen to everyone, so do your best but don’t sweat it too much – there is always the edit button. If you have access to a dictionary or spell checker fine, otherwise, just do the best you can. Take time composing your posts, re-read them before posting.
I am myself not a native speaker of English and beg all of my fellow writers to help me out with spelling and vocabulary. I am most certainly willing to do so if I can. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I will be very keen on the constant quality of posting <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>, after all I'm a teacher. This means also, that if you are already involved in several other RPs, think your implication carefully over.

5.) If you are NEW to Role Play, PLEASE READ the following threads. You'll understand once you do. Then, if you think you’re ready to play, have some good ideas/suggestions as how to fit your character in, come on down and ask to join the fun.
Guidelines to the Prancing Pony forum

Role Play 101 & Role Play 102

other good sources are:
RP resources A-Z
TORC Roleplay FAQ

6.) Role Play should be a pleasure. If you don’t feel comfortable with your character, if you don’t enjoy writing any more, if you feel under pressure, if you don’t like what someone did to your character… PLEASE TELL IT. The edit button does exist.

Some basic introduction to the story line ( and for more you’ll have to wait<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>)

Year 9:
The War of the Rings is over…. The regency of King Elessar seems to be well settled in its bliss. Yet, the fall of the Dark Tower has allowed other spreads of evil to gain force again. And now, slowly they show themselves. Hades is one of those. His aim is to rule over Middle Earth, or at least a part of it. And even if unnoticed by most, he has already set his claws on the land.
Who will stand up to resist and fight?
Who will be subdued or seduced?
Who will be hunted or tortured?
Who will triumph in this new challenge?

Yours to decide….

Hades is a little bit special <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

If you want to get a feeling for the character you might read those:

The Bard’s guild Midsummer fair
Rholarowyn’s headquarter

You might have to dig a bit to find the posts…. The link in the signature leads to some poetry – if you dare.

Character biography: Hades

Name: Hades (original name was Tan-Athos, now long forgotten)

Race: he was human once, of Numenorean origin

Age: born in Numenor, about fifty years before its downfall

Gender: male

Appearance: very tall, about 1m95 (6ft4 merci Elengil), so skinny that he looks almost like a walking skeleton. Usually entirely clad in black - with a long, cloak that covers him entirely. A huge hood covers his face, which is not easy to guess. When he uncovers it, scars ravage the face - it has strictly no expression at all. His features are so torn and stretched that it is impossible to guess how he has looked like in his youth, when he was still human. He will only uncover himself when it is inevitable. Until now nobody who has seen Hades face uncovered has lived to tell afterwards.

Equipment: through the ages, several black horses, all those, which have agreed to bare him. Always in black boots made of heavy, shining leather, with metal soles. Nothing but by look he could almost be taken for a Nazgûl, but he does not spread the same feeling of despair around him and he does not have the dreadful screaming voice of the ringwraiths.
A long Numenorean sword with a black grip and a long steel blade, sharpened on both sides. If he draws it, and decides to fight, he can move to quickly to be seen. His hands could strangle any enemy, even an ork or an elf. His physical strength can bruise bones by his bare hands too. Spreading fear, darkness and cold are yet his main weapons.

Skills: He can read minds to a certain extend, but not deeper and happier thoughts. In the same time, he can direct the thoughts and action of his victims, spreading despair in their hearts, suffocating all happiness around him. His presence will be felt like a shadow, and those who are unprepared to meet an ancient servant of the Dark Lord will be in danger of being overtaken, influenced, slaves to his will. He will sometimes submit someone to his will just for the pleasure of seeing this person despair or act foolishly.
Hades enjoys torture, both physically and mentally.
His main weakness is a deep disinterest for all living creatures. He hates them all, and most of all, he hates himself. He does not understand the idea of hope, love, friendship or loyalty and is unable to foresee many actions of humans or elves if they are motivated by feelings he does not conceive.

Biography: Originally, Hades was born as one of the sons of a Numenorean notable on the court of Al Pharazon. His family was a strong supporter of the king, hating the elves and preoccupied with the question of immortality, worshiping Sauron in his form. Being good-looking, noble and intelligent he was chosen to become a spy among the faithful among the Numenoreans and pretended to be an elf-friend to be the friend of Isildur and Elendil. Yet, treachery at this time was not natural for him - he really did believe in Sauron as ruler of the world and wanted to express his support openly. But the promised reward was immortality for him and his wife, given by the Dark Lord. The only creature that Hades has loved in all his life was his wife, who was even more ambitious than him, and stayed with him to gain the promised immortality only. Hades hoped to become the holder of one of the Rings of Power of which Sauron had spoken and he carried one for a while. As he lusted for power, he accepted the mission of treason. His hatred of the elves was very real and it was difficult for him to fulfil his mission as a spy. So, it was not astonishing that the faithful never fully trusted him.

After the fall of Numenor, Sauron punished him by taking the Ring he had carried and ever since Hades heart is darker than the deepest night. He hates the Valar and Eru who have made perished his home country, he hates the elves because of their immortality, he hated men because of their weakness, he hates the Dark Lord because he has taken away from him what he desired most, he hates the Nazgùl.

But most of all he hates himself. For, if Hades has survived the downfall of Numenor by the power of Sauron, he was completely disfigured. And like many other servants of the Dark side he was betrayed, for the only person he cared for, his wife Asyraya died. She cursed him before the waves closed over her - holding his failure responsible for her death. Failed as a traitor, he was of no use no more to Sauron who rejected him. Hades understood that he would never be a powerful servant of the darkness, never a Lord among men, alone forever. As his power is not given by birth, nor fully on the Ring (he has not carried it long enough for that), it is not subdued to the Valar. He has survived his own death, one reason for his powers, he has survived a punishment of the Valar, and so they cannot destroy him any more.

This is also why Hades becomes stronger when Sauron has been defeated and can unleash his power fully in the Forth Age only. Another time for him would thus have been after the victory of the Last Alliance.

He loathes his life and the only pleasure that is left for him is in torturing others, so that his pain becomes the pain of others.

In Middle Earth since the fall of Numenor, he has learned all that there is to know about it and followed all servants of the Darkness that have accepted his presence. Thus he has learned his skills of domination over the mind and used them in every way he could imagine.

After the victory of the Last Alliance, for a first time Hades could use his powers as Sauron was defeated and the power of the Rings weakened. He chose then the Easterlings and through his power of controlling weaker minds has inspired them a worship of a dark God, in fact himself. Hades enjoyed ceremonies with torturing initiations and human sacrifices... Later when the power in Dol Guldur roses again, he had to abandon his little realm, but from this time dates his encounter with an ancestor of Alandriel and his interest in her.

The fall of Sauron has rejoiced him, setting his powers free once more. He hopes now to be able to be considered as an enemy of the elves, to gain hatred if it is the only thing he can gain. Even though he would never tell so silently he hopes to find the failure in his immortality and to meet the opponent who could kill him. He wants to be the next Dark Lord or nothing at all and he will do everything to stretch out his domination.

Here are very short informations about the different character casted so far :
Hades: creature of Numenorean origin, he has always been a worshiper of the Darkness. For a while he was wearing one of the Nine Rings of Power, which allowed him to survive the downfall of Numenor, but it was taken from him by Sauron. Hades is consumed by self-hatred and hatred for all living things on the earth. His only pleasures are domination and torture.
Taarisilme: the human body is Numenorean, host for a vampire spirit dating from the depths of time - a Vampire of Morgoth. He has taken a Numenorean body in the hope of sailing to Valinor, and now Numenorean descendants are still his favourite prey. He has served Sauron in the dark years and perpetually needs fresh blood.

Elenduath: ancient Avari elf, born before the War of the Powers. Distrusting the Valar, they entered the service of Melkor, with a particular attention for the Noldor ;) During the Second Age, they lived for a while without guidance, killing at will Elves, Dwarfs or Men, but they felt that a new power was rising and that their help would be needed. They finally came to Mordor and served again under the rule of Sauron, also during the War of the Ring.

Sfatha: originally a Teleri elf, Slate grey eyes; their expression much like that of an animal – alert to her environment, expressive of raw emotion, they are her most revealing feature for they hide nothing. She has long lived under Morgoth’s domination.

Alandriel: Dunedain ranger. Appears to be 30 and has flaming red hair… Great knowledge of herbs and medecine. Alandriel owns a Numenorean ekket and has a particular birthmark.

Nindalf: Gondorian man from Pelargir. Nindalf is a trader in fine wares and trinkets. He is a good source of objet d’art or more…interesting trinkets. He trades throughout Gondor, Rohan and sometime north to Dale and the Iron Hills. But he has another purpose. He is a ‘Puigmugul’ a ‘Faronmor’, a hunter and destroyer of Sorcerers and evil.

Culanir knight of Minas Tirith. A strong warrior, reliable on thefield of battle, he has experience fighting in Harad and Dor in Ernil. He'sinclined to slight pessimism - as a result of circumstance rather than nature.

Uliandor: Human of exotic origin ;) A gentle man, who has a propensity to act as a mentor to people suffering from some deep problems, nevertheless, Uliandor appears to have a great fear of fire. A man who is orderly in nature, his anger is often aroused by the presence of chaos. He appreciates life in all its forms, moreso that even the elves.

Erinhue: Human, Erinhue is Illuvatar's bright spirit, sent to walk in the darkness of the world and spread the light of hope. He is slow to anger and quick to laugh and quicker still to make others laugh. He is friendly and charming and a bit of a rouge, but his heart is true. His sword is possessed of a berserker spirit , which takes possession of the bard when the sword is drawn in anger.

Rhowaìn: young Rohirrim – an illegitimate child. Raised in Rohan. Learned a lot about loss and pain from his childhood and a severe riding accident. Talented for drawing.

Ilyda, female ranger, although often mistaken for a man. Cursed by a dark wizard in her youth, she has been granted (or cursed with) a far longer life-span, yet is always afraid of loosing control over the powers he has given to her.

Secondary character: Haleth, nephew of Eolynd, a victim of Hades.

Ooh<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> Another RP to join<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>....*runs off to dig up bio from another thread*

Name: Amrunelen (translation- sunrise star)

Race: Elves

Gender: Female

Alliance: Lothlorien

Languages: Common speech, Sindarin and Quenya (most often uses the common speech around others)

Horse: Name- Tindanare (Silver flame). She is silver grey.

Weapons: A sword with flowing elvish script along the blade, a bow of the Galadrim, and a dagger. Other various things I often carry: a small silver horn inscribed with elvish designs, a phial containing some of the light of Earendil(like to that given to Frodo but a bit smaller), and a bell bandolier(sounds kind of odd but it will be explained better in my history...)

Appearance: Sea-grey eyes that hold the light of youth yet wisdom of many years, long dark brown hair, and gives off a pale white light as is typical for elves. Most often wears traveling clothes with a cloak of elven grey, but when at home or mingling with other Lords and Ladies she often wears a mantle of silver and blue with a silver circlet upon her head. Always she wears a necklace with a single white gem that's light rivals even that of the stars. It was passed down to her from her mother.

Personality: Kind to all of those of the light but wary of those allied with darkness, valiant in battle, fair yet terrible when angered, loyal to her friends and Lothlorien.

History: Amrunelen was born and raised in Lothlorien, her mother, Tinwe, and father, Ear-gil, both being from there. Ear-gil died when she was fairly young, by elves reckoning. He had been out traveling shortly after the last alliance, which he was part of, and the defeat of Sauron and returned badly wounded a couple of weeks later. Galadriel tended to him with her powers of healing but it was hopeless. He died later in the night, never to pass on to Valinor. Before he died, he made sure to hand down one specific possesion of his to his only child. It was was a bell bandolier with a set of bells that were most often used by Necromancers. He used them for good purposes though, banishing the dead who should not have risen back to death. The Lord and Lady of the Golden Wood knew of his deeds but did not speak of them to many. Most elves did not see that even some magic used by those who are allied with darkness could in fact be used otherwise. Ear-gil's death remained a mystery, as far as what had attacked him and why. Amrunelen and her mother continued living on in Lothlorien until her mother left after the War of the Ring and chose to sail across the sea to the Undying Lands, to Eldamar. Amrunelen remained in Middle Earth with the few of her race that did not yet want to leave those shores.

Wow Hades, we're practically brothers <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0>

Character biography: Taarisilme

Name: Taarisilme (original name is long forgotten,... now where have heard that before? <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0> Actually it's not forgotten entirely, just very, very deep within.)

Race: his body is human of Numenorean origin, but the spirit within him is a vampire of Morgoth.

Age: human body was born in Numenor, about 100 years before its downfall
vampire spirit is, of course, ages older. In appearance, a man of 28.

Gender: male

Appearance:
His black hair falls to half-way down his back, is straight and usually either hanging loose or pulled back in a tie. His eyes seem to shift colours, but ultimately they look pure black but for the white around his irises.
He is tall, 6'2" (so about 5cm or so shorter than Hades) and his skin is an unnatural pale (though not pure white) that never seems to flush or warm regardless of exertion, but his face is fair and pleasant but for the eerie lack of colour.
He has a slight frame and looks weaker than he is. The vampire spirit within him gives him an unnatural strength far beyond human ability.
Upon his body he wears rich burgundy velvets and deep black silks, strong brocades of gold and cream, and at the last, smooth, black leather trousers and soft-soled boots which covered to his thighs. Over all these things, he wears a cloak that seems to change colours with the angle and lights as one looked on, from the deepest black to the echo of a midnight sky, shimmering with blue and purple hues and seeming to encompass even the stars within it's expanse.

Equipment:
None of particular interest.

Skills:
Strength beyond natural human ability, and excellent with a dagger. He holds little use for other weapons, using his stealth rather than his strength to outwit and destroy his enemies. His voice can be both persuasive and terrifying. He can sense and see many things that are hidden from mortal sight within the shadow realm, for he himself belongs to that realm.

Biography:
Taarisilme has dwelled within many hosts and their memories still live in his mind like shadows just at the edges of consciousness. It is impossible to recall specific events, but certain things can spark a remembrance and a recognition. A vampire of Morgoth, his lair was far beneath the surface of Middle Earth for ages until the destruction of Utumno. From there, he fled to Angband and served Sauron until his capture.

Taar wandered as shadow and spirit in the darkness of Middle Earth, taking men of the East captive to his will until fate brought him upon a man of Numenor, a sailor who had come across the sea to wander beneath the woods of Beleriand. The Vampire abandoned the easterling body and took the Numenorean's, intent on sailing to the West, to Valinor.

However, even as he concieved these plans, the Valar wrought their judgement upon the Isle and it was lost forever beneath the waves of the sea. But Sauron, the ancient lieutenant, had returned to the shores of Middle Earth and saught a host to command. Taar entered his services, but as always, his human host became a part of him, and he of it, and so even as his spirit served Sauron, his soul detested him.

The body of the Numenorean did not age, nor did he yet remain youthful. His blood became cold in his veins, dry and thick. Even as Taar yearned for blood upon which to feed, his body desired the fresh and fragrant blood of his kin, and Numenoreans were a favored prey.

Though his human mind remains, it is as if dormant, locked within a labyrinth - yet from time to time, it can surface for a moment. The struggle to emerge is not yet lost, though resistance is met with pain, and the human mind has abandoned, for now, the fight.

With the downfall of Sauron in the War of the Ring, Taarisilme fled to the northern wastes of Middle Earth to await a time when darkness will again rise. He has scratched little more than an existance off the small creatures that live there, occationally finding a human on which to prey. Human blood is what Taar needs for strength, and the blood of Elves is even more potent, giving him strength and power for as long as it remains in his system. But like all creatures, he always needs to find new sources of food.

More to follow...

My vision of vampires in Middle-Earth

Taking the entry for 'vampire' from David Day's "Tolkien: The Illustrated Encyclopedia," I have come to my own understanding of what these creatures were in Tolkien's world. The entry refers to Thuringwethil and that she had the ability to take bat shape only through a shaping cloak given her by Sauron (though I suspect the entry should say Melkor). It refers to the Vampire as being a dread spirit that fled after the fall of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. In this way I have taken it to mean that vampires are a spirit that can inhabit other creatures.

Thuringwethil is mused to have been maia, but my image of Taarisilme is more along the lines of what the spiders of mirkwood would be compared to Ungoliant. Smaller and much less powerful but an offspirng of the original vampire spirits and still deadly. The spirit gives him strength beyond that of mortals and extends his existance in much the same way the Ring extended existance - not giving more life but simply preventing death and drawing out the life-thread of the inhabited.

Because his existance is so unnaturally prolonged, his desire is for life, embodied in the blood of others. Since Taar's human body is of Numenor, his desire is increased for the blood of his kind, the blood that used to flow warm and free in his veins. And with the downfall at last of Sauron, the power that drove his spirit was diminished greatly. He still yearns for the blood of life to sustain himself, yet the evil lust and hatred no longer consumes him and he kills to sustain himself but not merely for the desire to kill.

Though the driving force of evil is gone, he still is himself evil and ultimately remains a creation of Morgoth in mockery of the creatures of Arda and bred to fight against the children of Illuvitar, though more and more his human mind seems to be testing the ability to fight against the spirit within him.

Unlike 'European and Hollywood' vampires, there is nothing to suggest the sun harms them outside of them simply preferring darkness due to their evil natures. Garlic, 'holy water' and crosses are not something that would affect them, and I'm sure that they'd see their reflection in a mirror.

Taarisilme's human body can be harmed and even killed, though the vampire within him will survive. It can be killed but it would take power far beyond most who remain in Middle-Earth to do so. Not a maia, but beyond the power of wraiths, Taarisilme belongs to the shadow world and can thus see much that is hidden to mortal and even immortal sight. Only those who live within the shadow realm themselves or have been to the Undying Lands and then returned to Mildde-Earth would see what is visible to his eyes.

But his body is human, and therefore he would exist simultaneously in both the present world and in the world of shadows. His soul longs for light while his spirit longs for darkness, even as he served Sauron as a servant of shadow while his soul destested the one who brought about the downfall of his homeland.

I'd like to join. I find the plot very intriguing...

I'll use Atalantea. She is the daughter of Elrohir, falls in love Legolas(I promise not to post cheesy stuff) but dies in the end.

Is Hades one to keep a slave? Atalantea may look like his wife so he kidnaps her and uses her voice for amusement and scaring her always like hell. She escapes then runs to Minas Tirith where she'll meet Legolas and stuff.

Hades will kill her in the end. Her being a "traitor" and singing for someone else.

Hope she suits your story. I'm willing to reformat and change the character to fit the thread. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

We had a few 'brushes' already - I guess now it will really get 'serious' <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-devil.gif"border=0> <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>
Just exactly how you/we're planning to fit this in with what has gone before I'm not sure yet. But one of thing I'm certain: it's manageable <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I think all relevant info about Alandriel can be found in the link to her bio-page <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Looking forward to this

Hey Nin, I have an idea for this that I would like to run past you.
This is a slightly revamped Nindalf, my holy relic’s salesman. Turns out that selling bits of the 'Lamps', shards of Saurons Helm and broken Nazgûl rings was just a cover. See what you think. It would be an interesting character to play with.
He thinks he is good, he is doing this for the good guys…..
I have him based on the British Witch finder Matthew Hopkins. It’s the historian in me, I find this particular subject fascinating (<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-rolleyes.gif"border=0>), and would find it interesting to be tracing down the darkness, not understanding it and not really having much chance if he ever meets Hades or any of the bad guys.
Tell me what you think, I would love a chance to go up against Hades and think Nindalf would be really ‘interesting’. And very dark, to run: D

Nindalf
Race: Men, Gondorian urban man from Peligir
Age : 28, Looks 35
Parents: They still live, that will be enough to know for now.
Height: 5’ 9”, but he looks worn and his shoulders sag with a hard life.
Hair: Black, thinning, with shots of grey at the temples. Unusual one one so young.
Eyes: bright, intelligent, and fervent.
Complexion: tanned
Teeth: They look yellowed, dirty uneven, but if you were to investigate, they would be strong.
Scars: Several
Clothing: Dark grey and blue, in layers. All looks serviceable and worn, and shabby.
Weapons: A staff of Blackwood, and a warhammer.
He has a warhammer that it is said belonged to the last Priest of Manwe on the isle of Numenorë, and he is determined to use it to destroy the darkness at whatever the cost.
Some say he is too harsh, his methods to cruel. He would say that the end of darkness is justification enough, and those that have died that he may rid the world of a dark stain are no more victims than those who died in the Great War. His is an unsung part, but he is just, and he is justice.

As preciously discussed, I would love to throw a Gondorian into the fray, particularly with his background in the relevant region of ME.

I think you know more than enough about him but you know where to find the bio. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

As agreed with Hades, I will bring Elenduath in this RP. Her biography cannot be parted from that of her twin sister, Elengurth even if only elenduath will take part in that RP.
It needs completing yet but it will be edited soon<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>.

Name: real name forgotten but renamed Elenduath

Race: one of the Avari, born before the war of the powers

Gender: female

Appearance: 1m80 (it should be about 5'11" ), slender with a rather dark complexion, cold ice blue eyes. Beautiful in spite of the scar that runs down her left cheek. She usually is entirely clad in black with a heavy hooded cloak, which she uses to hide her face for despite her elven face her eyes reveal her cold temper (her glance would make any mortal shudder as if touched by its cold).

Skills:
Equipment:

Biography: Elendúath and Elengurth were born before the War of the Powers but the only thing she remembers of it, being young still, is the feeling that the earthquake would destroy the World. From that moment on, they distrusted the Valar for they felt they only sought destruction. When centuries later the elves were offered to leave Middle Earth for Aman, where the Valar dwelt the twins had refused to follow, despite their parents’ desire.
The two sisters finally remained on their own, happy to be with one another. They were ambitious and for some time, during which they learnt how to hunt and to fight, they grew mighty among the Avari, though never enough to actually command them. Their ambition did not find content among the Avari, thus they left and took the path the others had to finally enter Nan Emloth before the Unchaining of Melkor. There they met Eöl and in awe of the power and nobility he showed, pledged their allegiance to him. For two Ages of the Stars they served him faithfully and learnt from him how to forge swords. As a reward for their loyalty each was given a galvorn sword. Eventually the sisters planned to leave Nan Emloth and conquered a land of their own but the coming of the Noldor and their claiming of lands of Beleriand prevented them from realising their ambition. And they had the hateful habit to call them Moriquendi; thus they disliked the Eldar for their arrogance, their pride and their power. Yet they did not go against their Lord’s order, and acted not.
But when Eöl met and wedded Aredhel, the twins’ wrath was hardly restrained. They advised him not to follow his wife and son to the Hidden City for they feared this would bring doom on the kingdom of Nan Emloth and their King; the Noldor were too arrogant to accept the Moriquendi in their lands. However he left trusting the land in their hands; finally they had achieved their goal and were ruling. But when Eöl did not come back, they knew their fears were right. They too left the country and started hunting the Noldor to get information about the Hidden City of Gondolin but could not find any. Their wrath was enhanced and soon their hate spread to all elves who were not of their kin, which meant that all elves were doomed. Soon the Men were hated to for they allied with those who were responsible for their Lord’s death. In the late fourth century they went directly for Angband, for they knew that Melkor was the Noldor’s greatest enemy.
Probably glad to find willing help among the elves, Melkor sent them in different missions to kill or bring back other elves he would transform into orcs. When they came back, successful, he let them enter the garrison of the Thangorodrim, where they served under the rule of Sauron. For the next years of the First Age, their hatred of all races was enhanced and fed; torturing and killing became more than a duty. They did it with a pleasure that increased with every victim. Numerous they were those who died under their hands. In I 471, they took part in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad when they desperately tried to reach Turgon but faced the rearguard led by Hurin and could not catch the King of Gondolin. However after 26 years chained upon the Thangorodrim, Hurin unwillingly betrayed the Gondolin’s place. They were the “spies” who captured Maeglin and brought him to Morgoth; their greatest achievement to this day, for Maeglin eventually betrayed the city and brought its Fall, in which both took part. In the heart of Gondolin, while Ecthelion fought against the Lord of the Balrogs they looked for the King eventually finding him and killing him together. In the War of Wrath they only escaped because the Elves thought they had been Nandor taken in the pits of Angband.
During the Second Age, they lived for a while without guidance, killing at will Elves, Dwarfs or Men, but they felt that a new power was rising and that their help would be needed. They finally came to Mordor and served again under the rule of Sauron. They saw the construction of the Morannon and were part of the army destroying the Gwaith-i-Mírdain in II 1697. When the Last Alliance assaulted the Morannon Elenduath thought her chance to kill the last remaining King of the Noldor had come and with this hope and desire she went to battle. However none could stand Aeglos and she barely escaped in her encounter with the Noldor, knowing for the first time in her life what fear was. That meeting with Gil Galad left her a scar running down from the top of her forehead to her jaw and only chance spared her left eye. During the Third Age the twins worked to maintain the bounds between Rhûn and Mordor or Harad and Mordor undermining the efforts made by Gondor. During the War of the Ring, they passed messages between the different armies in the North, where they had asked to be sent; after all the only remaining Noldor were now in Imladris and with Galadriel, last one of the Firsts of the house of Finwë.
They expect the Fourth Age to be the one of their domination now that the greatest powers of the Darkness are lost.

Nin/Hades, 1.95m, is about 6'6" (196,08cm si j'ai bien compté<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>)

Some updating and further information for your pleasure:

Erinhue, If you leave me the choice, which you will do as the true gentleman who you are, (even if towards Hades no gentleman behaviour is requested or recommanded), it would a pleasure to take the Bard himself on the path of darkness.
Several reasons: He already encountered Hades once and could feel his call... He could easily know Alandriel and Culanir... and of course that could lead to some interesting conflict within the groupe of allies of the light. Inner conflict of his opponents are something that Hades can't resist. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

ElPolloDiablo - Taarisilme- my brother. As some of you may have guessed or remebered, he is another incarnation of elengil. Thank you very much! I'm looking forward to more info.

Dindraug - I'd be very interested in Nindalf- be it only to call a character in this RP Nin - feels almost like home....

Culanir - be welcome. This time maybe we can go after the bard together <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

Elenduath is written by earendil81, better know as Eari. I promise we will behave and not conspire too much in French.

Amrunelen and Aatalentea, as you see from the above comments, most of the writers so far are personnaly known to me from other RP experiences, or from Guilds or Talk. From the few I know from you, it is difficult for me to welcome you straight ahead and to assure a place among the writers. Please wait for the start of the actual RP (in about 36 hours from now). I would beg you for some patience and some read-along. As I have said, Hades is a special character, and I would prefer that you have some time to get a feeling for him. If after the first dozen of posts, you are still interested, please tell it here, and then I will get in contact with you personally to see if it's possible and if we can find a character. Writing in this story will request a certain level of implication. A participation limited in time might also be an option, but in any case I beg to wait until you read the first posts.

Alandriel, what would Hades be without you?

Jae, we'll have that discussion... and find out...

Now to the serious business
I will go and update the first post now and put a list of "confirmed" writers in there. Alandriel, Erinhue, Culanir, I know where to find your bios and will post either links of summaries in the third post - one of these days.
As said before the actual RP thread should be up and running in roughly 36 hours. Expect mail too.

I think against the might of Hades, even Culanir might have to reconsider old lines of allegiance and enmity. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif"border=0><img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I've just tidied up Culanir's bio - it was shocking to realise I hadn't touched it since the wedding. The basics I'm pasting below, but his full 2500 word history is in the scriptorium thread - I tought it might be a bit much to inundate the OOC with!

Name Culanir
Race Human
Gender Male
Age 30
Height 5’10’’, medium build.
Hair Red-gold, close cropped and bearded.
Eyes Green.
Status Single but hopelessly and eternally in love with Turelië Lurea.
Occupation Knight of Minas Tirith.
Weapons He prefers to fight on foot with his sword, Narmacil, but can also use a mace, axe or bow.
Mount A dark bay gelding called Countan.
Personality A strong warrior, reliable on the field of battle. His Achilles-heel is romanticism. Slightly pessimistic in outlook - as a result of circumstance rather than nature.
Mmm...I was debating whether to pop in here but after some deliberations and helpful pushes, I decided to go for the jugular (but of course, not literary). Hades is not familiar with the writing style of the Dean [<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>] so if my character passes the litmus test, I shall be happy to follow Hades recommendation to read the first few posts and see if I can slot my character in.

------

Name: Uliandor

Race: Human

Age: Born in Voitedh, a mysterious place, unfamiliar to many (well, none...Uliandor would be
very surprised if anyone has heard of the place)

Gender: male

Appearance: Tall man, of about 180cm who often walks hunched over. Dressed in robes of darkest red, he had brown hair and piercing blue eyes. He prefers not to look directly into people's faces which gives the impression that he might not be entirely honest in nature.

Equipment: Bears a mace interlaced with patterns of tears

Biography: Very much a man who keeps his past hidden. Of his origins, he would only say that he comes from Voitedh - but that in itself could be a lie. Certainly, linguists would be puzzled at the root origins of this name which does not appear to have any relationship to current known forms of language. A gentle man, who has a propensity to act as a mentor to people suffering from some deep problems, nevertheless, Uliandor appears to have a great fear of fire. A man who is orderly in nature, his anger is often aroused by the presence of chaos. He appreciates life in all its forms, moreso that even the elves, which in itself is a cause of wonder amongst the Fair Race. He is a councillor, a healer rather than a fighter but all who come into contact with him feel that he has hidden depths. What these may be no-one knows.

----

Hopefully, I have piqued your curiosity...... <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

The Dean

Hi there <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0> I would like to join, if that is all right <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

Name: Herendil
Race: Elf
age: 1000
gender: male
appearance: tall, white shoudler length hair, same complexion as Alqualossen's. Black eyes
clothing: black tunic and cape, clothes are weatherworn, and his cloak has a few rips in it.
history: He is Alqualossen's twin brother. (history is same as Lossen's)
martial satus: single
weapons: a long (two handed) sword, a bow and a quiver of arrows, as well as a small assortment of throwing knives.
Personality: Serious, learned in the way of fighting and war. He loves sword fighting with his twin sister, Alqualossen.
History: His parents were killed by orcs when he and his sister were but toddlers. Their older brother and his wife took the twins in and cared for them until they were old enough to trek out on their own. The twins roamed the wild with no one but each other for support and company. After the War of the Ring, the twins stayed in Middle Earth, feeling that their time had not yet come to leave for the white shores.

Name: Alqualossen (shh!!! I love that name!! yes, I'm obsessed with it...) it means "Snow Swan"
race: Elf
age: 1000
appearance: perfectly white shoulder length hair. Even though she is an elf, she has a tanned complexion (think of the Mid-east)and piercing black eyes. She's different, but not really beautiful. Pretty, yes, but not overly attractive. She is average in height for an Elf, and has a long white scare trailing on her face. The scar is the first thing people notice about her. She is thin, but curvy.
clothing: all of her clothing is black and weather worn. She does not wear dresses (unless it's a special occasion) but only tunics. Her cloak seems several sizes larger than it should be, and her hood covers her entire face when it cast over her head.
personality: solomn, humble, smart, learned in the ways of swords and war. She loves to fight with her partizan, and will usually fight with nothing else. She does know how to use any weapon, though, with skill suprising for a female.
history: she's a loner, and with her black Rohan horse, MoonDancer, and her twin brother Herendil, she roams the wild, living off of berries and animals she caught. She would often take various jobs for money, becoming even an assassin at times, if the need served her and her brother.
weapons: a winged partizan (elvish sword), throwing knives, and a dagger.

hope that's ok that I use two charcters that are twins <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

I would very much like to join, if that's all right. It seems that there's quite a bit of experienced RPers and great writers. I was looking for one of my characters that might fit into the story if it was accepted, and I found two that might work. I figured that I could give you a broad overview before I posted.

Elvedui is your typical rogue, pirate-y types. He was born in Lebennin but he doesn't normally stay in one place for too long. I've only played him a few times, but I'd love the chance to fill out his character a bit more.

Mithnen (named after yours truly <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>) was originally created for a Fellowship-period RP so I wouldn't have to change much about her for this game. She was a Ranger of the North before the War of the Ring, so I suppose that I could turn her into a member of King Elessar's Court without much trouble. Pretty complicated past, but not the dramatic, soap-opera, 'pity me' scenario.

But if nothing would work or you'd prefer to keep the RPers a closer bunch that you know already, then I'll continue to lurk and watch as this game progresses <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

_Mithy

So this time here we go:
The actual RP thread - Darkness rising is up now.

Go over there read and enjoy!

Mithnen - by thinking that the core of this RP is a group of writers who I know already, you are perfecty right. Like I have asked before, please just read for a while and think over if you have interest in this kind of RP. Please post then again.

Shielmaiden Pippin - I shall ask you the same. Moreover as we already a twin character on the dark side, I would be reluctant to have another one, especially if it is another elvish character.

The Dean - who pushed you?
Whoever well done. I'll try not to scare all unknown writers off - after all I started somewhere sometime. Be welcome.

Due to some unexpected professional problems I have less time than I thought and will update the bios and informations about characters during the week-end only.

Hades, I think I found the character I’d like to bring in. He’s very new but I worked out a bio as good as I can get it for the time being. Might have to check with certain times.

Just let me know if you like the thought of a rider in your midst. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

If you do, I’ll bring him in here asap with some stats <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>
Ok, Taar's bio is being updated slowly but surely. I have more background to fill in for the vampire and the bio of the human body, but for now there's a good start. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>

I would like very much to join you in this story, but will hold back on posting a bio etc until I hear whether a stranger to the originator is welcome in the thread. It seems you have gathered friends about you and if you'd prefer to keep it that way, I won't intrude.

However, if I could put a couple words in on my behalf <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif"border=0>...

1. I'm not as new as I look - Impenitent has an older identity (Novice) which I no longer use and under which I wrote in a number of RPs. In fact, I've written with a number of the writers in this RP under my old identity.

2. Impenitent is not an RP character per se...I would be writing Sfâtha, who is fully fleshed out though alas the RP for which she was created (Rally the Eldar) is in hiatus.

3. I will not come in here half-cocked; I always research the back threads thoroughly so my character and writing will seague with what you create.

I'd be happy to provide whatever required once you okay my intrusion.
