OOOPS...sorry, REL.

Atheist? Agnostic?

Secular humanist, I guess, and some Buddhist leanings.....

No one said we had to make sense, did they?

Not a Christian, anyway.

But I'm cooking a swell turkey for Easter dinner, just the same. A Spring festival.

Which is also the case in the Sikh community. Today is the holiest day in their calendar, celebrating the Spring Harvest, but I can't remember what the name is.

There is a Gurdawa near me that holds 25,000 people! Holy doodle. It is quite the place. Busy today, too.

Well, I would like to protest against the misnamed title of this thread.
It is "Christian, Atheist, or Other", and Christian is named first, as if the others are of less importance! I would suggest that you rename your topic to suit everybody, if they are a buddhist, muslim or perhaps aztec. It really is not fair and it discriminates all the religions that are categorized under "other", if I may say. If I had any opinion that concerns religion at all, I would not have entered this topic to begin with. Although I do have an opinion, I must have checked what others had to say.
It is this world of equality of justice that we support, yet we can not achieve a thing if we do not do what it takes. I suggest to rename the topic to "Whether you follow a religion or not, please tell us what your path is. Poll."
This sort of title would make it very clear that it is not intended to gain some Christain or Atheist majority, but to propose an equal opportunity for all to vote.
*cough sarcasm cough though I don't really rely upon getting a decent reply cough cough choke*

REL,

Not to be unnecessarily argumentative or anything, but there is already a thread here titled "What religion are you, and why?" where most of us have posted our answer to the question. Granted, that thread got rather off-topic at times and is somewhat verbose, but from the looks of things so far, this thread is likely to do the same. Perhaps if you are interested, you could do a quick tabulation from that thread, but in the meantime I will refrain from answering here as my answer would not fit neatly into the narrowly defined parameters of your question.

<img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

What religion are you, and why?

I follow des'tai, which means the Path or the Flow. It's not a cult, exactly, but not a major religion either. Just call me "out there". <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif"border=0>

In my Evolution Poll a while back, the results were dead even when asked "Do you believe a god is responsible for the existance of life?". The results were 42% yes, 42% no, and 8% undecided. So if there is a Christian majority in Manwe (Tuor added his "Yes" vote after the poll closed, just tipping the split), it is a very slight majority.

And in case it needs to be said, which I'm sure it doesn't, I am an atheist and proud of it. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

Edit: In case, anyone wanted to see my Evo. Poll's results: http://www.tolkienonline.com/thewhitecouncil/messageview.cfm?catid=41&threadid=78982#1

I did change the call of the question because I didn't want people putting down other and not being particular or exact with what they believed. The purpose of this thread is not to say any religion is better than any other.

Not to be unnecessarily argumentative or anything, but there is already a thread here titled "What religion are you, and why?" where most of us have posted our answer to the question.

Yes, thank you for making that link but this thread is different because it is a poll. In the other thread many of us explained why we believe what we believe and/or how we came to that belief. Here I am just looking for a head count of who belives what. <img src="http://www.tolkienonline.com/mb/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif"border=0>

"Do you believe a god is responsible for the existance of life?". So as interesting as that thread and its results were it is not the same as what we are looking for here.

And in case it needs to be said, which I'm sure it doesn't, I am an atheist and proud of it.

I am praying that there will a point in your life when that point will not need to be said because you would have converted to Christianity. : - )
I just web-cammed with her last week. (Is web-cammed a verb?) We had an enjoyable talk about her new house, and her not-exactly-glamorous job, and I got to see her cat. Does that make me a big people?

I'm a member of the Secular Franciscan Order (a little known order of singled and married people who live "in the world" but make certain promises that are not as binding as those for nuns and monks) and a Roman Catholic, but currently struggling out of a long depression that was accompanied by a total loss of faith. So I don't know what to call myself now.
