flæd is a feminine element, cp Athelflæd, Afflæd, Leofflæd, etc.

Yes, it's used in women's names, but the element itself is an adjective, not a noun. And if you check through the list, you'll find that the gender of the noun elements don't always match the gender of the name-bearer,

That may be true. My point is, though, that there are many attested feminine names ending with -flæd, and no male names. At least as far as I'm aware.

Maybe a bit out of place, but do any of you know what the elemnt for "star" would be? I would like to create a female name meaning "starjoy" or "starhappiness" and can't find the first part.

Star is "steorra" or "tungol".

idril_celembrimbal--The words fiven by Luinnenion are correct. However, the source I took this list from was listing every root used in dithematic OE personal names. Apparently, neither steorra or tungol were used as elements in such names. If you decide to compose a name with these words used as elements, you just have to realize that they are not authentically OE.

If authenticity is important to you, you may have to be a bit more metaphorical: perhaps eorcan-: precious, gemlike; or mae:r-: famous, sublime, pure, glorious ; torht-: brightness (n); beautiful, noble; -thry:th-: power, glory, host (f).

Thank you. :) Authenticity is pretty important, so I guess Maerwyn would be the closest I get... :)
