One Hit Wonders!! Know Any?

Postby Dunthule » Wed Feb 23, 2005 2:18 pm

LOL  I just heard the Flock of Seagulls song "I run" on the radio. It was such a big hit 20+ years ago. That got me wondering whether or not they had any other hits. :?:
I couldn't think of any. Unless I'm wrong (and I may be :) ) that makes them a certified "One Hit Wonder".

What other bands had a huge hit (Top 10), but never had another?
Or they simply faded off the face of the earth after their hit?

Jimmy Ray!! I loooooved that song! Loved it! :D :D :D

I remember that I was in high school when that song was big. I and a friend of mine were listening to the radio and when that song came on if we were the 10th caller we won tickets to his concert. We were number 9.

I've never heard of that song Mary - I think one-hit wonder is for groups that have had only one top 10 hit. Sure, they could have had songs ranking in the top 20, but they could still be a one-hit wonder. :)

"Ah Shut Upa Your Face!" by Joe Dolce.

Kept "Vienna" by Ultravox from ever making Number 1 in the UK. There is no justice.

Thanks for the clarification Imi, I didn't even think that Runaway Train was the only top 10 hit they had. So sad, because they are good :(

One-hit wonders? I only know a couple..

"Tub Thumper" by Chumbawumba

"Barbie Girl" by Aqua

"I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred

I know "The Ketchup Song" was a VERY recent one-hit wonder, but I don't remember who it was by. It didn't get a heck of a lot of circulation, but it was widely talked-about.

Echo: I can remember a few other "hit"s (though not as big as BG) from Aqua.

I don't know who it came from but I have a strong feeling "Chiwawa!" also was a One Hit... :D

In the late '60's...

In the Year 2525 by Yagar (or was it Jagar) and Evans.

It was one hot number. It hit #1 in a matter of weeks and stayed there for a long time before it just plummeted off the charts. I think it holds the record for the quickest rising and quickest falling single on the Billboard charts.

Las Ketchup sang The Ketchup Song. I never heard it, but my best friend was raving about it for weeks.

Didn't Right Said Fred sing 'You're My Mate' a year or so ago? I think I remember seeing it on TOTP the week Dido's 'Hunter' was released. :)

'Stutter Rap' by Morris Minor and the majors. A song I will never forget precisely because one of the singers was so determined not to be a one-hit wonder...*

*~Pips~*

*He bet he could get a top ten hit somewhere in the world. He wrote a song for Norman Wisdom called 'Big In Albania'. Don't ask. :P

Hello All! :)

SingingFox73 .. I beleive Timbuk3 had another hit titled "A Hundred Lovers". At least it was around here around 95-96.

Calma ... In the Year 2525, if man is still alive?.... LOL!
I haven't heard that song in ages.

Another one hit wonder was the group that sang the song that goes "Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey .. Good Bye". Does anyone know the group? :?:

I remember it as 99 Red Balloons and I liked it too, Gawd help me!

There are masses but here are a few; Fire by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles, Stay by Shakespeares Sister and I Can't stand the Rain by Eruption.

None that I'm aware of. ;)

That reminds me of Rick Dees singing "Disco Duck".
