I hope you don't mind CR but I have come and gotten her from you and have taken her into the Inn to find her mommy. Plunge has given her a juice to help distract her as well. |

I was going to say that one day is not that long and then I remembered I am among bards.
I remember a time when missing 20min meant that you were out the loop and the action (Lurea and Hobbi's wedding someone ) |

Vanadarlin's right. Being gone for a time is not reason to think you are no longer welcome here. Come on over to the festival and say howdy even if you are not going to post a poem. Come back here and just chat, let us know how you are doing whereever you are doing it. We always got a chair waiting for any of our wandering members. A bard's return is always cause for celebration so come around often and give us lots of reasons to celebrate |

Hey Vana, next time you're chatting over at the Pot, would you introduce me to our newly arrived Bard?
S'funny... I sound like something out of Jane Austen, asking for an introduction. But given that I don't know Ilyda's bardic history and background, I shall go all 19th century on you... |

I was able to get on, but there wasn't much to respond to (THANK YOU, Vana!), and I'm again unsure how soon I'll be able to get on (We haven't had home phone or internet for nearly three WEEKS!), but I've moved myself off to handle an emergency in the kitchen, so have fun with Beryl and I'll see you again as soon as I can. Thanks, All! |

I've been run off my feet this week, but now I'm off until Thursday, so I should be able to do something or other with the fat monk, whether or not Matrim shows back up, LOL.

Oooooh, thank you! *takes a big sip* I appreciate this much more now than I did a few years ago. I couldn't even drink legally when I joined the Guild, but only in the US, I think.
Judy, I think you may have marked yourself regionally. (And by saying what I'm about to say, I will too!) I had no idea what Scrumpy was when you put it in your post and had to look it up. It sounds great, and I'd love to try it myself, but Ilyda doesn't drink, unfortunately. I'll keep an eye out for it, but it might be hard to find here in the Midwest. |

I am so curious about some of the names folks have chosen for themselves here. Ilyda how did you come up with your name?? I know how Scribbles came up with hers and I know how Judy A and I came up with ours but I would love to hear the story behind your ID name. |

When I joined I went to the Barrowdowns website and used their translator and it gave me this name from my birth name. I loved the name so I chose it. Then in 2003 I got divorced and chose to change my name legally: Vanaladiel Meril (Sindarin for Rose) MacRae (maiden name taken back to its Scottish background) but then I got married last year so the last name has changed again.
Everyone here and my friends knew me by this name so why not take it legally. I had always hated my birth name causes my folks wanted a boy and they never let me forget it. My birth names were all male names or male spellings. |

Oh Vana, really?!?! That must have made you feel so sad
I did try the name thing on the Barrow Downs once too, but I recollect that what it came up with for me was kinda odd. Must go back and remind myself...
Worked for you, though!!!
Ilyda: I'm in Australia and I haven't really seen scrumpy here, either. But I do like cider anyway, and you can get scrumpy in regional pubs in the UK. I had some there years ago, and it's that I've been describing - homemade brew of that pub, with a heady scent of apples and a lovely rosy orange colour.
*swoons just thinking about it*
Seemed like the most appropriate thing to be imbibing at the Splintered Chamberpot |

Vana, I knew you did not like your birth names but I had no idea you were given male names
Ilyda, how do you pronounce your screen name? I tend to pronounce it [ee'leeda] but maybe [i'lyda] might be more accurate |

I always pronounced it [I-'lei-da] with the Y as a long i, but your way sounds pretty cool too, Eari. That's one I've not heard before. It sounds more refined your way. |

Okay, get this:
Using my married name, it tells me that (according to the Red Book of Westmarch) I was an "Unwanted Umbarian". Charming.
Best name option is a not particularly Elven-sounding Elf name: Rūdhthoronwen. Not
bad
, but not mellifluous like Vana's!
If I use my maiden name, then the Red Book says I am an "Annoying Vanyar", if you please!!! Best name option is Rūdhardawen. *sighs*
Mr JudyA is a "Tragic Gardner" in the Red Book and conjures up the Elven name Balėheruion. Which has a certain ring to it. Poppet becomes Amandaliel, while the Little Fairy manages the quite impressive Pellaquįrė ... which I thought was kinda nice.
btw to get somewhat back on topic, I bought some organic British-made cider (no scrumpy to be found, sadly) this afternoon and had some with dinner. Not rosy-orange, but still a nice aroma and tasted pretty good |

Ooh, sounds good Judy. Cider is a little harder to find here in the States. It's not nearly as popular or easy to find as it is in the UK, which is a shame, since I rather like it.
My poem is finally up in the festival, yey. I got very wordy with it, in the end. I counted, and it's 68 lines, which may be the longest poem I've written in a very long time. It was a little slow going because I've never written in blank verse before, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, all in all. Sorry I'm a real downer on the mood, though.
I need to get ready real quick and head into work by 1pm (Ack!), so I'd better go. |

I am a "don't tell me what I can or can not do" or "how to feel" kind of person so I took it as a challenge and rose above the names. Growing up ALL my teachers kept saying at the beginning of each school year "I was expecting a boy!" when they would meet the students and do role call each time.
The military tried to draft me!
My CAT/SAT scores always told them I would be a great mechanic.
I always got junk mail for Mr. that part I hated. Not anymore though.
That is just what I faced daily so I was thrilled with the opportunity to change my name. Now you can see why I do not even say what it used to be. Because now is what is important to me, not the past!!
But moving on I love going to the Barrows down site and just seeing how names translate out. It isn't truly accurate but it is fun!!
Rūdhthoronwen would be pronounced Roth thoron wen or closer to it!! I actually like it very much!! The DH sounds TH! |

Sorry to have been absent but I've been a bit distracted lately. I suppose it is the time of year. Saturday marks 4 years and I can't believe that much time has passed. I said that this year I would bring Dan and spend the time with the In-laws. Not looking forward to that, not that they are not grand folks, I just would rather not see them, or anyone I guess.... but I did give my word and they are Dan's grandparents and he wants to see them. I shall return on Monday in better spririts I surely hope.
Be well and Be happy and if you got someone to love, hug tight to them. |

Oh, darl.... I wondered what was up.
We're all with you in spirit And we'll all be here for more and when you get back.
Vana: They tried to draft you?! No wonder you were so glad to see the back of it. Dear me. btw I figured out the pronunciation of "my" name - know a little bit about Welsh, which is the root lang from which that name derives. A very melodious language, but full of little traps.
Ilyda: I often resort to blank verse too, when I'm writing something serious. Rhyme just doesn't seem to work in that scenario. Oh, and you only need to go to the festival thread to find out what I thought about it |
