Helsinki Moot, May 29/30, 2010
In a couple of occasions, there has been talk about a moot in Finland. For that, Helsinki would be the best place because 1) it's the easiest to reach and 2) the possibilities of finding something interesting to do are the best.
The ideal time would be late May to early June; then, the days are long, and the weather usually rather warm. Also, it's before the holiday season, which here is in July. (September and early October wouldn't be bad either, but then, it's already getting a bit dark.)
In June, there would also be more possibilities for reasonably priced accommodation, because a few student dormitories serve as summer hostels. There are also a few hostels open the year round, and outside the city centre, rates of normal hotel rooms are lower than in the centre.
Any interest? |

Definitely interested, never been so far north myself, too.
Either '09 or '10 is ok with me. The Ireland moot is being planned for March/April, I think, so Helsinki in June would be fine by me. |

I would love to come to Helsinki, but you know that 2010 is already planned for Italy for July...I can't imagine that I could also get that in AND I want to go to the Oxford moot in July as well. That would be three ...
I just can't afford to do it all and I am committed to Italy 2010 and will be saving between now and then.

I will tentatively say I am interested, with the understanding that I'm a teacher and thus not free until mid-June. I can't promise anything, but I just wanted to say that I think it's a great idea, and if I can make it, I will certainly try to get over there. I would love to visit Finland.
But of course, don't plan anything around me. |

Of course, nobody can get everywhere... But, if it happens that I miss the Italy moot, I sure hope to see you in Oxford, rwhen!
Late June isn't impossible either, just preferably not the Midsummer weekend, because then, half of the people head for the country, and those who stay are drunk as monkeys. (Wait, that isn't actually too different from a normal moot... ) Anyway, on that weekend, almost everything's closed. |

Well, I would love to come. 2010 would probably be better for me, just because of the proximity of it being to the Irish Moot. Of course, then I wouldn't be able to go to Italy, but out of Italy and Finland, I can see it being more likely for me to get to Finland than Italy (sorry
rwhen
although I would hope to see you in Oxford!). |

Thanks you folks....Oxford at the latest.
I honestly don't want a "gotta go there because I said I would"...
People go to what is affordable and what fits your fancy. Trust me if I had the money I would come to Finland as well...if for no other reason than to rape and pillage one married Isaiah. AS IF!!! |

How about we
sail
to Helsinki...?
I'd just assumed I'd never been so far north, and that's true, but having looked at the map, the furthest north I've been (Norrtälje) isn't all that much further south. |

We could sail to Helsinki yes. Whether we would all get there in one piece is another question entirely! |

Well, not from Glasgow, obviously. That would be quite a detour for me.
Just a short bit through the Baltic. The Baltic is known for being a quiet sea, isn't it?
(You know, the strategy is that if I keep bringing it up long enough, at some point people will say 'ok, let's GO'! - in the vein of Cato and Carthage, I guess. ) |

I am definitely interested, rowan! And I know that Yavannie and MouseofMordor are too, although I do not think that either of them have seen this thread, yet!
I actually just came across it a few minutes ago myself, but I think that 2010 will be better for me, as moots might not be doable for me next year. |

Oh yes, Helsinki sounds brilliant - we'll do our best to be there. At the moment we have no preference between 2009 and 2010 - although, would this be instead of or as well as Oxford that year? |

It depends. If the Helsinki moot would be in the early summer, I believe there could well be an Oxford moot in the late summer. (And, if it would be in 2010, when Rwhen is planning her trip to Italy, she'd hope for an Oxford moot so close to it that she could get there on the same trip. Unless she could better fit Helsinki into her schedule. ) |

Well, should a moot come so nearby... Yes, I guess I could take part in it too
I've never met a single torcer in RL, my sister Min(yacaliel) aside, so it's about time I think.
Me, Tari and Mouse have planned on a mini-moot for a couple of years now but our plans always seemed to fail, somehow.
So to sum up, I'm interested Whether it's 2009 or 2010, makes little difference cause I'm in Finland anyway (most likely).

Who knows, maybe we won't have to wait that long. if I have the courage to board a plane to see Min in England this fall, I might one day board a plane to Scotland too
Nah, seriously speaking, if you or Mouse or the both of you are coming to Helsinki, I would definitely have to take the train to meet you there. |

Rowan and Alys. I had always thought of the Oxford moot as something like a sacred cow...never to be touched. Again, I will defer to what the group decides. If the moot in Oxford is moved to Helsinki, then I will come there instead of Oxford. I just don't see how to do all three things. But this is far off yet in 2010, so anything is possible. |

The Oxford moot is generally in August, yes? So, I would see no reason for this one to replace it.
Since I never seem to make any UK moots, I'm hopeful that Helsinki will work out for me. I have no preference for 2009 vs 2010, just a preference for June over May or September .
If it's 2009, I can probably make most weekends in June, though I'd prefer it
not
be the first one (June 5-7). |

I'm also interested, if it's at all possible to fit a Helsinki moot into both my calendar AND my bank account.
I've been as far north as Helsinki before. In fact: I've been to Helsinki, and sailing too! It takes 14 hours on the ferry from Stockholm, and I wouldn't mind doing it again. |

Legolas the Elf
is going to be in Finland from August 2009 until May 2010 - if we could manage to organise a moot whilst he's there, that'd be doubly fantastic! |
